Chapter 39: Chapter 39 The Minor Villain (7)_1 Chapter 39: Chapter 39 The Minor Villain (7)_1 âNo, I just want to sleep more.â Ruan Jiaojiao said in a soft and weak voice, her little head leaning on his neck, pointing at the rabbits on the ground, âDaddy, pick them up quickly, letâs go home and ask Grandma to make us spicy rabbit.â
âOkay,â Ruan Jianguo nodded, holding her with one arm while using the other to grab the rabbitsâ ears. He tied them together with grass roots, binding them to the hoe before heading home.
Ruan Jiaojiao thought that at this hour, everyone should be home for lunch. She was delightfully imagining how to deal with the rabbits, thinking of eating one today and saving the others for the weekend when her brothers and sisters-in-law would be back⊠While deep in thought, she was suddenly startled by a pair of eyes glowing green.
The antagonist was thin and frail, hiding between the paddy field and the high ground, practically invisible unless one looked carefully.
Now that Ruan Jiaojiao and Ruan Jianguo had descended from the high ground, they spotted him.
Seeing those green eyes, Ruan Jiaojiaoâs heart started to beat wildly without reason, as if it was about to jump out of her throat.
The joy on her face was replaced by panic.
She couldnât comprehend how she could encounter this antagonist everywhere. Hadnât he failed to follow them? How long had he been here? What had he seen?
Ruan Jiaojiaoâs mind was in turmoil, burying her head in Ruan Jianguoâs neck like an ostrich, yet she couldnât resist the urge to peek at the antagonistâs reaction. Each time she stealthily poked her head out a bit, their gazes met, and he clearly had no intention of avoiding her stare.
Perhaps he was signaling to her that he had indeed seen everything!
âHey, Xiaoxi, what are you doing here?â Ruan Jianguo was also surprised to see the young boy and asked.
Xiu Xi did not answer, instead retracting his gaze.
Ruan Jianguo did not mind and carried Ruan Jiaojiao past the boy to their home. Ruan Jiaojiao covertly began to raise her head to peek over Ruan Jianguoâs shoulder, then discovered the antagonist was following them silently, not staring as intently as before but still occasionally casting sharp, scary glances at her.
Ruan Jiaojiao started playing dead.
She simply buried her head and didnât move. Jianguo thought she was tired or sleepy, so he coaxed, âJiaojiao, donât sleep just yet. Weâll be home soon, eat lunch and then you can sleep, okay?â
âMm.â Ruan Jiaojiao murmured a vague response, stole another glance behind him, and sure enough, the antagonist was still following. She retracted her head and stopped looking.
When they finally arrived at the Ruan family home, Ruan Jiaojiao stretched her head out to look back.
Heaven help her, the antagonist was still there! What on earth was he up to?!
âYou damned little bastard, where have you been running off to in the middle of the day? Just like your deadbeat mom, canât this family hold you anymore!â A string of vile curses suddenly came from behind.
Ruan Jiaojiao couldnât care less about the antagonist and turned around, only to recognize the all-too-familiar yelling.
Turning back, she saw not far away Liu Mei, with her hands on her hips, pointing in their direction and cursing with phrases like âdamned dog,â horrendous to hear.
Ruan Jianguo frowned, not wanting Ruan Jiaojiao to hear such filthy words, and hurried to take her inside. However, Liu Mei caught sight of the three rabbits in his hand and her eyes lit up immediately; she rushed over quickly.
âYo, Brother Ruan, where did you hunt those rabbits? They look so plump, enough for quite a few meals,â she said with an animated smile, her eyes nearly glued to the rabbits.
