With a lift of his eyes, Xiu Xi’s pupils glowed green, emitting a chill. When he looked her way, Liu Mei’s heart skipped a beat, and she immediately averted her gaze, yelling ‘Do as you wish,’ before turning and running away.

“What’s wrong with Liu Mei?” Wu Le came out of the house with more food, just in time to see Liu Mei running away, and asked in confusion.

“Who knows what’s wrong with her, acting all weird every day!” the Ruanlin Family said disdainfully, turning around to come back. Seeing Xiu Xi, her gaze softened, and she kindly said, “Xiaoxi, if your stepmother ever bullies you, just come straight to grandma’s house. Grandma will protect you!”

“Alright, from now on Brother Xi can come to my house for meals every day,” Ruan Jiaojiao said with a purpose of pulling Xiu Xi back from the path of a villain, immediately smiling and answering for him.

“You, just eat up,” the Ruanlin Family said affectionately as she rubbed her little head, love almost spilling out of her eyes.

Ruan Jiaojiao bowed her head to eat her rice. From an angle others couldn’t see, she raised an eyebrow at Xiu Xi, who, looking at her, slightly curved up the corners of his mouth.

The atmosphere at the Ruan Family’s dining table became incredibly warm for a while.

After lunch, Ruan Jiaojiao, having been tired and frightened for the past day and night and now full, quickly grew sleepy. The Ruanlin Family held her in her arms and soothed her until she fell asleep, then took her to bed. Turning around, she saw Xiu Xi following and asked in a lowered voice, “Xiaoxi, do you want to take a nap here too?”

Xiu Xi’s response was to automatically climb into the bed where Ruan Jiaojiao was sleeping. Since the house where the Ruanlin Family lived had not yet been repaired, Ruan Jiaojiao was currently sleeping in Ruan Jie’s room. There were two beds in Ruan Jie’s room, one for Ruan Hao and one for Ruan Jie.

Ruan Jiaojiao was sleeping in Ruan Hao’s bed, and the Ruanlin Family intended for Xiu Xi to sleep in Ruan Jie’s bed, but then she saw him crawl right next to Ruan Jiaojiao and lie down.

She paused for a moment.

But she let it go almost immediately, after all, they were still children, and country folks didn’t have so many scruples. She smiled, shook her head, and said nothing.
