Meatball silently retracted his bared fangs, lowered his bushy tail, and stepped back two paces. His gaze wandered everywhere except toward the two people who had fallen in front of him.
Uh, this has nothing to do with me. Absolutely nothing! I didnât even lift a paw, and they just fell on their own. Donât even think about pinning this on me.
"Meatball!" Jiaojiao glanced at the two people sprawled on the ground, quickly walked over to grab Meatballâs leash, and asked the three tangled-up individuals, "Are you all okay?"
Wu Su saw Meatball up close, immediately panicked, and rolled sideways in a mix of scrambling and crawling, shouting, "Itâs a wolf! Thatâs a wolf!"
Meatball wagged his tail. Well, he *is* a wolf.
To be honest, based on appearances, Meatball didnât really look much like a wolfâmostly because he was way too chubby. He lacked the kind of majestic aura wolves are supposed to have.
However, the fact that heâd scared someone was undeniable. Jiaojiao felt a bit awkward and had Meatball obediently stand off to the side. She stepped forward to help Wu Su up, explaining as she did, "Donât worry, Meatball isnât aggressive. No need to be afraid."
"Awooo..." Meatball bared his teeth, expressing quite proudly that he *can* be fierce if he wants to.
"..." Jiaojiao shot him a stern look.
Meatball immediately hid his bared teeth, slinking back a few steps until he ended up beside Ruan Jie. Ruan Jie, on the other hand, praised him with a pat on the head.
At home, Meatball was obedient and got along with others well. However, thanks to Xiu Xiâs excellent training, he was particularly protectiveâespecially when it came to Jiaojiao. Ruan Jie knew Meatball wouldnât scare people for no reason; it mustâve been something one of them did that triggered Meatball to bare his fangs.
Perhaps because Meatball now looked more docile, Wu Su seemed less frightened. With all the boys watching, she didnât want to look weak, so she quickly got up and extended her hand to help Chen Tingting.
But Chen Tingtingâs eyes shimmered with tears as she stared at her perfectly fine ankle, biting her lip and saying, "I twisted my ankle." With that, her tear-filled gaze shifted toward Ruan Jie.
"..." Jiaojiao lowered her head, stole a glance at her ankle, and thought to herself: Chen Tingtingâs skin is pretty fairâher ankle is small, delicate, and pale. Thereâs absolutely no sign of a sprain.
"Uh... Chen Tingting, should I carry you?" The tall boy whoâd been dragged into this mess blushed furiously, his face burning bright red. A soft beauty in his armsâwhat teenage boy could resist? Especially when said girl happened to be the schoolâs universally admired queen bee.
In a split second, Chen Tingtingâs tear-filled eyes turned beet red. After falling, all sheâd thought about was looking at Ruan Jie; she had completely forgotten she was lying on top of someone else.
At this age, girls were particularly sensitive about reputation and prone to embarrassment. Having mustered up all her courage to come here and confront Ruan Jie, now she found herself in her crushâs presence after falling into another guyâs armsâhow utterly mortifying.
Flustered, she scrambled out of the boyâs embrace, completely forgetting about what sheâd said earlier about her ankle being injured. She immediately took several steps aside, terrified of further misunderstandings.
The boy sheâd flattened also stood up, giving her ankle a reluctant glance, and asked, "Chen Tingting, is your foot okay? Should I take you to the hospital? Itâs just around the cornerânot far at all."
Just a moment ago, Chen Tingting had been darting about like nothing had happened. Saying there was still something wrong now would be pointless; she frantically waved her hands, shaking her head.
"..." Jiaojiao didnât expect her older brother, this brick-headed guy, to have such surprising allure.
