After the doctor left, Mrs. Xin was still wiping the sweat from Xin Miaoâs face. Xin Bo watched from the side, feeling an indescribable heartache.
He tentatively began, "Miaomiao, she..."
"Xin Bo, donât even think about it. I will never send my daughter to a psychiatric hospital. If you want to send her, then send me along with her." Mrs. Xin didnât even look up at him, but her words blocked him instantly.
Hearing this, Xin Bo sighed. How could he bear it? But seeing Xin Miao hurt herself time and again, it broke his heart too.
Watching Mrs. Xin roll up Xin Miaomiaoâs sleeves, revealing all the scars of past self-harm, Xin Bo felt as if a heavy stone was pressing on his heart, weighing him down. He couldnât bear staying in the ward any longer, so he went outside the hospital for a smoke.
After Xin Bo left, the tears that had long filled Mrs. Xinâs eyes finally fell.
Looking at the scars and cuts on Xin Miaoâs hands, her voice choked, "Miaomiao, mom wonât give up on you. Donât worry. If anyone dares to send you to a psychiatric hospital, mom will fight them to the end."
She spoke while shedding tears, the tears falling onto Xin Miaoâs exposed arm.
Xin Miao seemed startled by the scorching tears, her lashes fluttered, and then slowly she opened her eyes.
Jiaojiao stood nearby watching, because Xin Miaoâs head was tilted towards her, so as soon as Xin Miao opened her eyes, she met Jiaojiaoâs gaze.
Xin Miao looked in her direction, frowned slightly, her eyes flickering.
Jiaojiao blinked too, wondering if this Miss Xin could actually see her.
Thinking of this, Jiaojiao stuck out her tongue and made a face at her, waving her hand in front of Xin Miao.
But Xin Miao didnât react further; she turned her head towards Mrs. Xin and softly called, "Mom."
"Miaomiao, youâre awake? Is there anywhere you feel uncomfortable? Do you want mommy to call the doctor?" Seeing that she was awake, Mrs. Xin hurriedly wiped her tears with the back of her hand and stood up, asking worriedly.
Xin Miao shook her head, raised that scarred hand, and used her fingertip to wipe Mrs. Xinâs tears, "Mom, donât cry, Iâm fine."
Xin Miao inherited her delicate appearance from Mrs. Xin, and having just been resuscitated, she looked even more fragile and pitiful now, evoking sympathy.
Mrs. Xinâs heart felt like it was breaking.
She held Xin Miaoâs hand, asking tearfully, "Miaomiao, why do you keep hurting yourself? Didnât you promise mommy youâd never do it again?"
Xin Miao looked at Mrs. Xinâs saddened face, lowered her eyelids, "The one who hurt myself wasnât me."
"Miaomiao!"
"Alright, I know, you donât believe me." Xin Miao didnât want to say more, pulling her hand back dispiritedly, "You should go home; I can be by myself. Donât worry, I wonât be committing suicide anytime soon."
At least, when she was in control of her own body, she wouldnât.
As for anything else, Xin Miao truly felt helpless to say more. No matter what she said, no one at home would believe her. Even Mrs. Xin, who loved and cherished her the most, only thought she was having a mental breakdown.
"Itâs okay, momâs not tired, mom will stay here with you. You go ahead and sleep." How could Mrs. Xin leave her; she didnât dare move until the servants from home came.
Xin Miao didnât bother with her, turning her head again. But after turning her head, she seemed to remember something, her eyelids fluttered, but she never raised her eyes again.
