Capital City
That night was silent and voiceless.
"Get out, all of you get out."
"Leave, I want to see no one."
"Miss, please calm down..."
The clamorous voices spilled from the room; the next moment, the servants were all chased out.
"Get out, donât you have ears?"
The hoarse voice hysterically growled, terrifying the servants into fleeing, none daring to approach the room.
The sound of "tap tap" footsteps echoed on the stairs as Wang Lian ran upstairs and upon seeing the servants all blocked at the doorway, her face immediately turned unsightly.
"What are you all crowding here for?"
Upon seeing her, the servants hurriedly made way.
"Madam, the young lady wonât let us in," one of the servants said, emboldened.
Hearing this, Wang Lian frowned and said, "You all go down."
"Yes." Like birds scared by a bowstring, the servants scurried downstairs as if they had been granted a pardon.
The door was ajar, Wang Lian gently pushed it and it opened.
The spacious bedroom was in utter disarray.
"Get out, all of you get out, whoever dares to come in, Iâll fire them tomorrow." Hearing footsteps, Su Yishan yelled without looking.
"Yishan, itâs me," Wang Lian said, stepping over the mess on the floor to approach her.
On the carpet, Su Yishan lifted her head, her hair was a chaotic mess, and there were dark shadows under her eyelids.
Meeting the despair and anger in her eyes, Wang Lian couldnât help but feel a twinge of heartache.
"Yishan, how have you let yourself come to this? Get up."
Su Yishan looked blankly towards her, her voice hoarse and breaking, "Mom, Iâve lost everything, Iâve become useless, I canât be with Li Mochan anymore, heâs been taken by Ye Jiuliang, stolen from me."
Wang Lian crouched down and drew her into her embrace, "No, you havenât lost everything, you still have the Su Family, youâre still the young miss of the Su Family, Mom will find a way to heal your hand."
"Mom has already arranged for doctors abroad, in a few days weâll go overseas, youâre giving up on yourself now, wouldnât that just make that wretched girl Ye Jiuliang happier?"
"But Iâve already lost everything, the doctor said thereâs no hope for my hand, I know grandfather has already brought that bastard back to the capital, Iâll have no part in the Su Familyâs future," Su Yishan cried out.
They looked glorious on the surface, but in reality, as soon as they were of no use to the family, they were bound to become discarded pawns sooner or later.
When Wang Lian heard the words "bastard son," her expression suddenly turned dark.
She patted Su Yishanâs back, her voice soothing, "Not at all, everything of the Su Family is yours, Mom wonât let anyone take away what belongs to us."
After stabilizing Su Yishanâs emotions and seeing her off to sleep, Wang Lian finally left her room.
At one in the morning, everyone in the Su Family had retired for the night.
But she didnât feel the slightest bit sleepy.
Throwing on a coat, she walked outside to the courtyard, her thoughts heavy.
For years, her marriage to Su Jing had already reached rock bottom; a good relationship between husband and wife was just for show, and now with Yishan like this, she wasnât planning for herself, sooner or later someone else would snatch away her title as Madam Su.
She looked up into the grey sky, a glint of viciousness flickering in her eyes.
If it werenât for that dead girl Ye Jiuliang, Yishan wouldnât have ended up like this, nor would her status in the Su Family have plummeted, having to look at Su Jingâs face for everything.
It was all because of that disaster-bringer.
"Madame Su, what are you worrying about? Why not share it with me?" A gentle voice sounded from behind, abrupt and frightening.
Wang Lian turned sharply, and in the light surrounding her, she saw a figure in black not far away.
The tall and slender silhouette, and that high ponytail, barely made it clear the person in black was a woman, but with a mask covering her face, her features were hidden.
"Who are you?"
"How did you get in?"
Although the Su Family wasnât under strict guard, their security was always quite good. When did this person appear? She hadnât noticed at all.
The woman chuckled lightly and walked slowly toward her, "Who I am, how I got in, these are not important. Whatâs important is that I can solve the problem youâre most worried about right now."
"What do you mean by that? I donât understand," Wang Lian said, eyeing her warily and stepping back to increase the distance between them.
The woman didnât beat around the bush and said bluntly, "Itâs simple, we have a common enemy."
She tugged at her lip, coldly sneering out a name, "Ye, Jiu, Liang.
Wang Lian froze, "You..."
"Miss Su was ruined by Ye Jiuliang, can Madame Su really swallow that grievance?" The woman said softly.
"You should know that with Miss Su like this, for the Su Family, sheâs become a disposable pawn. Iâve heard that the old master Su has already planned to bring home the illegitimate son of the Su Family. Can Madame Su really tolerate her husbandâs child with another woman taking away everything that should belong to Miss Su?"
"Stop talking," Wang Lian covered her ears, grinding her teeth and snapping.
The woman glanced at her, a triumphant smile flashing in her eyes, and continued, "And it was all Ye Jiuliangâs doing. Are you really content to watch her go free?"
Wang Lian glared at her with bloodshot eyes, "I told you to stop talking."
Undeterred, the woman smiled and went on, "Thereâs only one chance, itâs up to you, Madame Su, whether you want to seize it or not. And Iâm willing to show my sincerity in cooperating, like taking care of that illegitimate son for you. How does that sound for sincerity?"
Wang Lian had to admit, that last sentence shook her resolve.
If it wasnât for Old Master Su, she would have taken action long ago. Now, someone was willing to do it for her, which was more than welcome.
Wang Lian calmed down, "What are your conditions, and how can I be sure that what youâre saying is true?"
The woman responded indifferently, "As I said, we have a common enemy."
"Who are you really?" Wang Lian still didnât believe her.
Ye Jiuliang was different now; with Li Mochan as her backing, Wang Lian knew she had to be fully prepared to take Ye Jiuliang on, otherwise, she was afraid the loss would be her own.
"My surname is Li, thatâs all Iâm willing to disclose," the woman said.
Wang Lian looked astonished, "The Li Family from the capital?"
The woman nodded.
Wang Lian shook her head, "No, thatâs not right. Why would someone from the Li Family want to deal with Ye Jiuliang? Stop talking nonsense."
"Iâve said what I had to say. Whether you believe me and whether we cooperate, thatâs up to you," the woman said, growing impatient.
Wang Lian hesitated, "How certain are you?"
"One hundred percent. I can assure you Ye Jiuliang will vanish completely." Seeing that Wang Lian was wavering, the womanâs lips curved slightly.
After a moment of silence, a firm glint passed through Wang Lianâs eyes as she looked up at her, "What do you want me to do?"
