Feng Yi turned his head and felt the atmosphere was somewhat unusual.
His puzzled gaze drifted over the two people seated on the sofa, one playing on their phone with their head down, the other staring blankly at the cup in their hand.
The silence endlessly stretched on, as if time had come to a standstill.
"Whatâs going on with you two?" Feng Yi touched Jiang Yishengâs shoulder, "Itâs like you donât even know each other."
In an instant, the surroundings fell into a hush.
Ji Mingqianâs hand slipped, and the word "Game Over" popped up on his game screen.
As he watched the vibe grow colder, Feng Yi continued, "Asheng, why arenât you talking?"
Jiang Yishengâs eyes and brows drooped as he shoved the cup back into Feng Yiâs hands, "Yi, Iâm going back first. You guys have fun."
With that, he grabbed his coat and stood up to leave.
Feng Yi blinked, somewhat unable to comprehend.
Why was he suddenly leaving?
By the time Feng Yi snapped back to reality, Jiang Yisheng was already at the door.
He took a quick step and grabbed Jiang Yishengâs arm, "Asheng, why the rush?"
Jiang Yishengâs lips barely curved into a smile, "Iâm a bit sleepy, letâs meet another day."
Feng Yi pulled him back, "We rarely get to hang out. Stay a bit longer."
Jiang Yisheng felt helpless, his gaze briefly passed over the person opposite him. The man was coldly looking at his phone, his detached demeanor like a dagger piercing sharply into Jiang Yishengâs chest.
The delayed sharp pain filled his chest, making it impossible for Jiang Yisheng to take another step.
After tugging a couple of times to no avail, Feng Yi turned to look back at him.
Jiang Yishengâs slightly pale face alarmed Feng Yi, "Asheng, whatâs wrong with you? Are you feeling unwell?"
Jiang Yisheng shook off his hand, forcing a grin, "Itâs nothing. Iâll go back and rest."
Seeing that he was adamant about leaving, Feng Yi had no choice but to let it go, "Then you can take my car back."
With that, he picked up the car keys from the table and handed them to him.
Jiang Yisheng took the car keys without a momentâs hesitation and decisively turned around to leave.
As footsteps receded, Ji Mingqian lifted his head towards the doorway, no trace of Jiang Yisheng anymore.
He put down his phone, expecting to feel relief, but inexplicably, the joy wasnât forthcoming.
Feng Yi closed the door and came back in, wondering about Jiang Yishengâs odd behavior tonight.
His suspicious eyes fell upon the man drinking, could it be that the two really had a fight?
Ji Mingqian sipped his drink lightly, meeting Feng Yiâs inquisitive gaze, "Why are you staring at me?"
"Mingqian, tell the truth, did you and Asheng have a conflict? Why do I feel like both of you have been off all evening?" Feng Yi asked directly without beating around the bush.
Neither of them paid any attention to each other; even strangers would greet each other, let alone friends.
Knowing he couldnât simply bluff Feng Yi, Ji Mingqian guarded his words carefully, "Who had a conflict with him? Didnât he say he was sleepy? Isnât it normal for him to go back and rest?"
"Is that so?" Feng Yi looked at him dubiously, "Wasnât it different when you two met before?"
Ji Mingqian suddenly felt like laughing, "What were we like when we met before?"
"At the very least youâd greet each other. As soon as you came in, you sat there playing with your phone, and you two have barely said a word to each other. Itâs just not normal." The more he said, the more convinced Feng Yi became that there was something fishy between the two.
Acting was Ji Mingqianâs forte, and Feng Yi wasnât about to easily spot a loophole.
He tugged at his lips, displaying a helpless smile, "If you ever stop doing business, you should consider writing a book."
"What do you mean?"
"Your imagination is too wild."
Feng Yi gave him a disdainful eye roll.

The weather in the capital was always fickle. A windy and rainy night was followed by a clear day.
Early in the morning, Wei Bei arrived at Mo Garden for a video conference meeting at the headquarters that Li Mochan could not miss.
In the bright and spacious study, a mix of multiple languages surged and fell.
After what seemed an eternity, the screen on the wall dimmed, signaling the end of the lengthy meeting of over an hour.
Wei Bei tidied up the documents that had been signed on the desk and looked up at the man opposite him, "Master, do I need to prepare suits for you for tonightâs banquet?"
"No need," Li Mochan stood up and walked towards the door.
His wife had been out of sight for so long, he wondered where she was causing trouble and decided to check on her.
It had rained in the middle of the night, leaving the lawn in the courtyard slightly damp.
On his way, he bumped into Jiang Hai, who was also searching for his wife.
"Mohan, are you looking for Xiaojiu?" Jiang Hai saw him alone and guessed that he and his uncle were both looking for their wives.
Li Mochan hummed in acknowledgement.
Jiang Hai said with a warm laugh, "Your aunt is also not around; they probably went out together."
Before his words could fade, Jiang Yisheng ran over, his expression a blend of laughter and tears.
Panting, he said, "Dad, cousin, good youâre here. Hurry to the front gate and see for yourself."
"See what?" Jiang Hai asked, confused.
"Mom and Jiuliang are back. Just come with me and youâll see," Jiang Yisheng said before turning to run off.
Li Mochan frowned and quickened his pace to follow.
Still some distance from the main entrance, Li Mochan could hear the old ladyâs voice.
"Xiaojiu, is this a duck or a goose? How many pounds does it weigh to be so big?"
Li Mochanâs eyelids twitched, sensing a bad premonition.
"Ahai, come over here. Iâve bought you a gift; come and take a look," Veya called out to Jiang Hai, holding a small cage in one hand and waving at him with the other.
Jiang Hai noticed the cage in her hand was covered with a red cloth, obscuring whatever was inside.
Before he could guess, his attention was abruptly drawn to a creature next to him.
Its feathers were as white as snow, topped with a red crown, and its eyes, small as black beans, shone impressively. With its large wings flapping, it strode with an attitude that seemed to say, "Donât mess with me."
It was a fat, big white goose.
Jiang Haiâs facial muscles contorted as he struggled to regain his voice, "Xiaojiu, where, where did this big white goose come from?"
"Bought it," Ye Jiuliang said with a grin, her hand wrapped around a red ribbon tied to one end of the gooseâs leg.
As she turned and saw Li Mochan had also arrived, she stepped toward him.
Her narrow eyes filled with mischievous delight, "Mohan, look, the big white goose, isnât it fat?"
Li Mochan glanced at the goose spreading its wings and subtly stepped back.
He asked her, "What made you think of buying this?"
Ye Jiuliang tugged on the red ribbon, and the big white goose, flapping its wings, charged in their direction.
"Just saw it and bought it," she said.
As the goose neared his feet, Li Mochan stepped back again, his gaze filling with disdain.
The goose took one step forward; he took one step back, the scene inadvertently turning comedic.
Ye Jiuliang doubled over with laughter, "Mohan, it doesnât bite people."
"Dirty," Li Mochan frowned, "Too many germs."
