After selecting his own portion, Ji Mingqian turned his head towards the person next to him, "What do you want to eat?"
"Anything is fine, the same as you is fine too," Jiang Yisheng said.
Since he had said so, Ji Mingqian simply ordered two of the same dish.
Feng Yi closed the menu, lifted his gaze towards the person across from him, and started to stir things up with a sly intent, "Mingqian, itâs been so long since weâve seen each other, shouldnât you be treating this meal?"
Having been tricked by Ye Jiuliang too many times, Ji Mingqian had developed a keen intuition when it came to being conned.
He raised an eyebrow, a playful smile playing at the corner of his lips, "Canât President Feng even afford a meal? After all, Yisheng and I are spokespeople for the Feng Group, it isnât too much for you, the boss, to treat your two employees to a meal, right?"
When it came to verbal sparring, few could beat him.
Next to him, Jiang Yisheng suppressed a laugh, quietly watching without saying a word.
He thought so, trying to trick Ji Mingqian was really difficult.
Feng Yi laughed in exasperation, "Are you two in cahoots, both pretending to be poor in front of me?"
The endorsement money from the company has all gone to the dogs, huh?
"We are indeed poor, right, Asheng?" Ji Mingqian laughed, dragging Jiang Yisheng down with him.
Unable to evade, Jiang Yisheng nodded in agreement, "Yeah, weâre poor."
Two against one, Feng Yi joked with a laugh, "Fine, we can cut ties after this meal is over."
The meal passed in laughter and conversation.
In the middle of it, Feng Yi received a call from home; his parents had returned suddenly from their trip and wanted him to pick them up.
"You go ahead and pick up your parents, Iâll have my familyâs driver come pick me up later," Jiang Yisheng took a sip of juice and said gently.
Feng Yi nodded, standing up to put on his coat, "Iâm off to fetch the Empress Mother, goodbye."
With his mother returning, it seemed wise for him to stay away from home for a while to avoid being nagged about marriage again.
"Donât forget to pay before you leave," Ji Mingqian delivered a parting shot.
The smile on Feng Yiâs lips froze as he gave him a sideways glance, "This young master wonât pay, you two can stay behind and wash dishes to pay for the meal after eating."
"Heh."
Jiang Yisheng looked at Feng Yiâs retreating figure, his eyes softening with affectionate laughter.
Poor Yi.
After Feng Yi left, Ji Mingqian tilted his head, propped it up with one hand, and looked at the person still eating steak, his lips curled in a roguish smile.
"Jiang Yisheng, you eat so much, how come youâre still so short?"
"..."
Jiang Yishengâs face darkened, and his steak-cutting motions stiffened.
This guyâs mouth was so vile, his remarks so venomous.
Itâs just five centimeters taller than him, whatâs there to flaunt?
Seeing that he wasnât responding, Ji Mingqian became even more insolent, a mischievous smile on his face, "Are you really one seventy-nine? You wouldnât be lying about your height, would you?"
No sooner had the words left his lips than the knife and fork, gleaming coldly, aimed straight at him.
Subjected to one insult after another, even Jiang Yishengâs good temper had worn thin.
To call him short was one thing, but now insinuating that he lied about his height was a personal affront.
His tone turned menacing, "Ji Mingqian, if youâre full, then get lost and stop turning my stomach."
Ji Mingqian laughed lowly, his gaze sweeping over the steak on his plate, "Iâm here, yet I donât see you eating any less."
Losing appetite, what nonsense.
Jiang Yisheng shot him a cold glance, then continued eating his steak, "Being shorter than youâs no big deal; as long as I look better than you, thatâs enough."
"Ha, you think you look better than me?" Ji Mingqian scoffed lightly, reaching out to nudge his forehead hair, "Jiang Yisheng, do you have no shame?"
After finishing the last bite of meat, Jiang Yisheng wiped his mouth with a napkin and looked at him with indifferent eyes, "Isnât it a fact that Iâm better looking than you?"
Ji Mingqian would not admit it, "Fact my ass."
"Is that so?"
The soft, light voice dissolved into the air.
The next second, Jiang Yisheng suddenly leaned in close, his beautiful, androgynous face magnified before Ji Mingqianâs eyes.
"Do I not look good?"
In an instant, Ji Mingqianâs breathing became erratic.
The heartbeat accelerated with a "thump-thump" beat.
His mind went blank, and though he tried to speak, no sound came out, "You..."
After a few seconds, Jiang Yisheng leaned back and then straightened up.
He spoke faintly, "If you donât talk, Iâll just assume you agree, itâs a fact that Iâm better looking than you."
After a brief moment of being dazed, Ji Mingqian felt a slight irritation at the bottom of his heart, feeling slightly embarrassed.
Damn.
Jiang Yisheng had played him.
This was toxic.
When he looked at him again, Jiang Yisheng had already put on his hat, "Letâs go."
"Iâll take you back, no need to trouble the driver to make a trip," Ji Mingqian said as he picked up his coat and put it on.
Without consideration, he declined, "No need."
Ji Mingqian furrowed his brow, his tone becoming childishly petulant, "You just rode in Feng Yiâs car, why canât you ride in mine now?"
"You drive your motorcycle like a rocket, I really donât want to get a new injury before the old one heals," Jiang Yisheng lazily replied.
So that was the reason, the gloominess in Ji Mingqianâs expression faded, "Then Iâll drive slower, is that alright?"
"That wonât be necessary either," he refused again.
The bright handsome face instantly turned cold, "Why not?"
"You just said I was short," Jiang Yisheng retorted with a grudge.
Ji Mingqian, "..."
Was he really being so petty?
"Alright, alright, youâre the tallest, youâre even taller than me," he said without much sincerity.
As he spoke, not giving him another chance to refuse, Ji Mingqian reached out and pulled him up, "Hurry up, there are fans coming to the door."
Fans?
He glanced sideways, his peripheral vision sweeping over the doorway, and indeed, several people were coming their way.
Worried about being surrounded by fans, Jiang Yisheng didnât argue with Ji Mingqian anymore and obediently followed him.
After putting on sunglasses, Ji Mingqian lowered the brim of his hat with his hand.
The two quickened their pace in unison, walking out. Just as they reached the entrance, they heard people shouting their names.
"Mingqian."
"And Yisheng, Yisheng is there too."
Wild screams came from behind, and Ji Mingqian, with one long stride, comfortably mounted the motorcycle.
"Get on."
The shrieking from behind was almost deafening, and Jiang Yisheng, not daring to delay, hurriedly sat on the motorcycle.
"Hold on tight, donât fall off," a deep voice emanated from up front, and Jiang Yishengâs eyes flickered as he reached out and grabbed the corner of his clothes.
Just as the crowd of fans surged over, the motorcycle suddenly sped away, kicking up a cloud of dust for the fans.
"Mingqian."
"Yisheng."
The fansâ plaintive voices whirled and twisted, filled with disappointment.
Their idol had slipped away right before their eyes.
Such a pity.
...
The dusk withered, night stealthily took its place.
The bright moon peeked through the clouds, the dim starlight slowly emerged and disappeared.
A heavy atmosphere filled the spacious room.
As the sunset faded and the bright moon rose, Ye Jiuliangâs heart fell into an abyss with the passing of time.
Looking at the man still unconscious on the bed, Ye Jiuliang felt drained with worry; if not for the hand gripping hers, she feared she would have neared collapse.
Mo, itâs already evening, do you still not wish to awaken?
