Volume 2 Chapter 36 part1
After coming back to the inn, I visited the room of the dukeâs family.
Arone-san welcomed me and brought me to the 4 Jamil membersâ table.
âWelcome home, Ryouma-san.â [Elialia]
âWelcome back.â [Reinbach]
âWelcome home. Seems you had some trouble today.â [Elize]
âDonât push yourself too much.â [Reinhart]
Looks like theyâve already caught word of what happened this morning.
âThank you, everyone⊠Thereâs actually something I want to talk about.â [Ryouma]
When I said those words, their faces stiffened.
âWell, go on. Donât be shy.â [Reinhart]
âWhat is it all of the sudden, Ryouma-san?â [Elialia]
Reinhart spoke with a serious expression, while the Ojousama wore a worried expression.
âIâve made up my mind. Youâve taken care of me all this time, but I think I should be independent from here on.â [Ryouma]
As soon as I said that, the ojousama stood up from her chair and ran up to me. The other three remained on their chairs.
âWhy!? Why all of the sudden!?â [Elialia]
âEveryoneâs spoiling me. At this rate, I think Iâll end up into a no good person. Everyoneâs shown me so much kindness these past few weeks, but I think I should leave for a while and retrain myself.â [Ryouma]
âIf you just want to retrain yourself, canât we do it together? There will be plenty of teachers tooâŠâ [Elialia]
âIf Iâm with everyone, Iâll definitely end up spoiled. Thatâs why I want to leave for now.â [Ryouma]
It was here that the madam interjected.
ââFor nowâ, you say. I take it you donât actually intend on never showing your face to us again, right?â [Elize]
âYes. Iâm not leaving because Iâm mad or anything, I just want to train myself. Once Iâm satisfied, if itâs alright with everyone, then Iâd like to come back.â [Ryouma]
âOf course itâs alright! In fact, thereâs nothing wrong with being spoiled. Youâre only 11, after all. Thatâs a perfectly normal age to be living with your parents. Weâll welcome you back whenever you want!â [Elize]
âMother!? Are you not stopping him?â [Elialia]
âElia, itâs not as if youâre going to be separated from Ryouma forever. In the same way that youâll be going to school, Ryouma-kun will be studying as well. Although, frankly, I donât really think itâs necessary for you to be do so, Ryouma-kun. If anything, Iâd say what you really need is to be a bit more spoiled.â [Elize]
âWait a moment, Elize. Havenât we already talked about this?â [Elize]
âI know. Thatâs why Iâm not refusing him. Iâm just saying what I think.â [Elize]
Talked about what?
âUmm⊠What do you mean youâve talked about this already?â [Ryouma]
Reinbach-sama and Sebasu-san were the ones to answer that question.
âActually, ever since arriving at this town, weâve already predicted you would eventually bring that up. Iâve been living for a long time already, and Iâve met plenty of people in this long life of mine. Peers, subordinates, enemies⊠all sorts. And Iâve seen plenty of children like you.
I wonât stop you, but you shouldnât push yourself. Even if you put the work, itâs all meaningless if you donât know how to rest.â [Reinbach]
âRyouma-sama, you might think you were being spoiled, but we donât think so at all. Itâs true we provided you lodging and food, but you registered to the guild in an unfamiliar town and have been working seriously all this time. Itâs almost as if such things were a given to you. Which is why, we figured youâd eventually bring this topic up. Itâs a bit earlier than expected, though.
Reinhart-san added.
âWhen I look at you, Iâm sometimes reminded of a close friend of mine. Heâs the complete opposite of you. If youâre diligent, then heâs the opposite of diligent. He would always push all of his work onto his subordinates and onto other people.
That much is obviously bad, but I think you need to learn a little bit of that. Rest from time to time, rely on other people, just like what my dad and Sebasu always say. And of course, improve. My friend may be like that, but heâs currently doing pretty good for himself.â [Reinbach]
âŠâŠâŠâŠâŠâŠâŠâŠâŠTheyâre really good people. I never realized they were this concerned about me.
Before I knew, I was tearing up.
Volume 2 Chapter 36 part2
âThank⊠you.â [Ryouma]
âItâs fine. But in exchange, you need to promise us some things. One, you may leave, but you must come back. This world is dangerous. All the more so for adventurers. Iâm sure you know this already, but make sure not to die and be sure to show yourself once in a while. The more frequently, the better.â [Reinhart]
âSecond, you have to send us letters regularly. Basically, a report of whatâs happened. This way we can tell you when youâre pushing yourself needlessly.â [Reinbach]
âWe could also use my dimension magic to meet you in person.â [Sebasu]
âAnd third, you must rely on us! This is absolute! Youâre smart, youâre good at magic, and youâre strong. In fact, if we were to hire, you could get a good position already, so if anything happens, remember that you can always work for us.â [Elize]
I donât know what to say anymore. All I know is that Iâm really grateful to these people. Itâs a pity my vocabulary isnât that great; otherwise, I might be able to express my gratitude better.
âRyouma-san.â [Elialia]
When the ojousama called out to me, I turned to her. She looked me straight in the eye and said this.
âI havenât had many opportunities to spend time with someone, so Iâm a little disappointed, but if youâve made up your mind, then Iâll respect your decision. However!â [Elialia]
The ojousama pointed her finger at me and declared.
âI will also add a condition!â [Elialia]
ââŠCondition?â [Ryouma]
âFather, grandfather, and mother have already given three, but I will add one more. We will meet again 3 years later and again 6 years later.â [Elialia]
â3 years and 6 years?â [Ryouma]
âIâm sure Iâve told you this before, but I will be going to the academy this year. It will take me 6 years to graduate, but there will be a long break halfway through, so at that time, letâs meet again. Until then Iâll do my best in my studies and in my magic.â [Elialia]
I see⊠So thatâs what she meant.
âI understand.â [Ryouma]
âGood, I wonât forgive you if you forget, ok?â [Elialia]
The ojousama said as she glared at me.
Now that she mentions it, I do tend to forget stuff when Iâm caught up with something.
âIâll do my best not to forget.â [Ryouma]
âAt times like this, youâre supposed to say you wonât! Good griefâŠâ [Elialia]
The ojousama made a fed up expression as she said that.
Reinhart-san interjected while chuckling.
âHa ha ha, well, it should be fine. By the way, Ryouma, have you decided what youâll be doing from here on?â [Reinhart]
âI have my slimes, so I was thinking of living somewhere near this town. That way I could work as an adventurer here, continue developing my connections, and train myself.â [Ryouma]
âI see, then in that case, thereâs a job I would like to entrust to you.â [Reinbach]
âWhat is it? If itâs something I could do, then by all means.â [Ryouma]
âI want to leave the management of the mine youâre hunting monsters at right now. A lot of monsters have taken root in it despite having been abandoned for only a yearâŠ
Itâs not good for there to be a monster nest so close to town, so I would like for you to check the mine from time to time and hunt down the monsters. If you need help, you can get some from the guild.
I considered just sealing the entrance, but cave mantises could dig their way in, so itâs pointless.â [Reinhart]
âIf thatâs all, then sure. Iâll do it.â [Ryouma]
âThank you. As thanks you can do whatever you want with the mine. If itâs there, you should be able to train or practice your magic without trouble.â [Reinhart]
âThatâsâŠâ [Ryouma]
That would be the perfect place for me! Thereâs enough room to build a house, itâs far enough from other people, and itâs unpopulated so I can train myself and let the slimes roam free. Itâs even more valuable than money.
âThis is a contract. There are many dangerous monsters, and having them create a nest and multiply so close to the town is dangerous. You understand, right?
Normally, the public office would send someone to check the mines once in a while, but it seems the public office of this town failed to do even that. So, all Iâm doing is hiring someone I believe I can trust. Thatâs all.
If not for you, we would have had to pay someone else, but with this weâre able to get by just by handing the place to you. Not only do we cut down on labor, we also cut down on expenses.â [Reinhart]
âŠThatâs true, but even I can tell heâs just making excuses. After all, the old officials of the public office have already been fired, so the current administration should be a fresh and healthy batch.
While I was thinking that, Reinhart-san made a wry smile and said this.
âGood grief, you really are too honest⊠You care too much about petty things. Letâs do this then. Youâll make ingots there, and weâll profit off of that. You donât have to work too hard, though, just make them when youâre available.â [Reinhart]
ââŠI understand, Iâll work as hard as I can!â [Ryouma]
Iâll set a monthly quota and sell them wholesale to Serge-san. I have to do at least this much.
âNo, like I said, you donât have to work that hardâŠâ [Reinhart]
âOh, one more thing. You should stay at the inn while weâre here.â [Elize]
âUmm, thatâsâŠâ [Ryouma]
âIâm not hearing it. You know I thought we could travel together a little longer, but then you suddenly go and decide on your own. This is final! Youâre staying here!â [Elize]
âItâs just about another month or two. It wonât be too late to start your training then. And this will do you good too since you work too hard.â [Reinbach]
âŠIf I donât reject them here, Iâll end up spoiled.
âYouâre not being spoiled, Ryouma-sama.â [Sebasu]
He read my mind!?
âRyouma-kun, itâs been showing on your face all this time, you know?â [Elize]
âA very easy to read face.â [Elialia]
Really?
âAnyway! You have to stay here at the inn while weâre here! Alright?â [Elize]
âB-ButâŠâ [Ryouma]
âAlright!?â [Elize]
âButâŠâ [Ryouma]
âItâs alright, so itâs alright!â [Elize]
The madam isnât go to take no for an answer is she? âŠWell, fine. WhateverâŠ
I wonder if Iâve always been this weak willed⊠Anyhow, I canât thank them enoughâŠ
âI understand. Iâll let myself be spoiled while everyoneâs in town.â [Ryouma]
âGlad to hear it~â [Elize]
In the end, I couldnât reject them, but having people like this who care about me so much makes me happy too.
After that I thanked everyone one more time, and then I went back to my room.
