After the man drove away, Wenyan finally got out of the car.

Xu Jie nodded, “Sort of. Remember the person I mentioned who used to be in charge of this area? That’s him. My current salary is paid by him. He came today to deliver cardboard. His factory’s cardboard is regularly sent to me. He knows I sell these to raise funds for the kids.”

Wenyan was taken aback, suddenly feeling embarrassed, “I was shallow. I judged him by his appearance and thought he was a troublemaker, a bad guy. I really jumped to conclusions.”

On the way back, Wenyan didn’t sit in the back but in the passenger seat instead.

The cigarette that Shen Jingxiu had just accepted was still in the car. Wenyan picked it up and played with it between her fingers.

Shen Jingxiu glanced at her, “What are you thinking about?”

She usually didn’t fidget like this. When she did small actions like these, she definitely had something on her mind.

She asked Shen Jingxiu, “Do you smoke?”

Shen Jingxiu shook his head, “No.”

“Then why did you accept it,” Wenyan said with a smile looking at Shen Jingxiu, “I knew you’re actually a very gentle person deep down. If you hadn’t accepted that cigarette, that man wouldn’t have told us we’ll receive good fortune afterward.”

Shen Jingxiu fell silent for a moment, then said, “Isn’t there a lyric that goes ‘If you’re willing to peel back my heart layer by layer, you would find, you would be surprised’?
