Chapter 632: Chapter 595: Found a Treasure (Part 1)
Song Wei paused slightly in his reading, "Did the madam say she wanted to expel you from the mansion?"
Nanny Qin wiped her tears, "I have never done servant work before; I made a mistake the first time and Iām guilty."
"You are specifically assigned to serve Qi Bao. Itās normal that you donāt know how to serve others," Song Wei gestured for her to stand, paused, then spoke again, "The affairs of the inner residence have always been managed by the madam. You were personally chosen by her, and itās natural that who stays and who leaves should be decided by her. If youāre seeking me for this, youāve found the wrong person."
The deep tone was his usual way of speaking, though upon careful listening, it seemed somewhat unfeeling.
Nanny Qin, having been in the mansion for some time, had realized that the male owner was steady, rarely showing emotions on his face. Such people seem kind, yet their thoughts are the most unpredictable.
Her earlier small maneuver was completely ineffective against him.
Nanny Qin bit her lip, realizing sheāll have to change her approach next time, otherwise this stalemate will persist, and Song Wei may never truly see her.
Wen Wan stood outside the door, eavesdropping for a moment, and calmly tucked the burn ointment into her sleeve, then entered and said to Nanny Qin, "I probably remembered wrong. Jiaojiao took that box of ointment just a couple of days ago. Are you uncomfortable? If so, go to the outer courtyard to find the household doctor and ask him to prescribe some medicine."
"I used to do a lot of hard work at home, Iām used to having thick skin, a little burn is nothing, itāll be fine after a nightās rest."
Wen Wan nodded, "Since you are okay, go inside and rest for a while, donāt disturb the master while heās reading."
Nanny Qin could only enter the room submissively.
Night duties were long, as long as the young master didnāt cry or fuss, the person on duty could rest on the soft couch, not needing to watch without blinking.
However, tonight Nanny Qin couldnāt sleep. She turned over and looked at Qi Bao in the crib, and as she watched, she thought of Mrs. Wen sitting outside.
She didnāt know what those two were talking about, faint sounds came in, but she couldnāt hear clearly.
Nanny Qin felt restless, so she simply sat up.
The outer and inner rooms were separated by a floor screen, with a curtain hanging from the screen. If not lifted, itās difficult to see the situation inside.
Moreover, the inner room had the lights off, making it even harder to see whatās happening inside from the outside.
Nanny Qin softly tiptoed to one side of the floor screen, leaning in to listen.
Wen Wan was a true Southerner, her voice naturally soft and beautiful, even when angry, her words sounded gentle.
But at this moment, to Nanny Qinās ears, it sounded like an affected and seductive troublemaker trying to enchant the master.
In fact, Wen Wan and Song Wei werenāt doing anything.
They sat on the kang, with the kang table between them. Wen Wan suddenly remembered the invitation from Duke Jing Mansion received that evening, stating that the Dukeās birthday banquet would be held in half a month.
The current Duke Jing was formerly Old Marquis Lu, Song Weiās mentor.
Wen Wan naturally asked if he would be attending.
Song Wei hesitated hardly at all, "Since arriving in the capital, I havenāt formally visited the Lu Family, itās about time I went."
Wen Wan said, "Then this time, the birthday gift will be up to you to prepare, as youāre the one most familiar with the Dukeās preferences."
Song Wei agreed effortlessly, saying there was no problem.
Afterwards, the room fell into silence, with only the occasional crackling of the candle on the table.
Nanny Qin heard no follow-up; she lifted the curtain and went out, respectfully saying to the two, "Master, madam, the young master has me watching over, you both should go back and rest. If anything unexpected happens, Iāll notify you immediately."
Wen Wan didnāt speak, she looked at Song Wei.
She was a leisurely person, it didnāt matter to her, it depended mainly on her husbandās choice.
Seeing Song Wei hadnāt spoken yet, Nanny Qin added, "Master has to go to the government office early in the morning, staying up too late is not good for his energy and health."
Wen Wan, hearing this, smiled at Song Wei, "Did you hear that, Mr. Song, even the nanny cares for you? Do you plan to keep reading?"
Nanny Qinās heart skipped, she hurried to explain, "Madam, I merely worry that the master might..."
Wen Wan didnāt turn to look at her, just raised her hand slightly, "I understand your intention." Isnāt it just trying to make an impression, to be seen and liked by Song Wei whenever possible?
Nanny Qin was momentarily speechless.
Song Wei had already closed his book, stood up, and said to Wen Wan, "Letās go back to the room."
Having sat for too long, Wen Wan felt a bit dizzy when she stood up, swaying slightly, prompting Nanny Qin to hurriedly support her, "Madam, be careful."
After stabilizing, Wen Wan smiled at her, "The master has been staying up late every night for a while now; no matter how much I persuade him, he doesnāt listen. Today, itās thanks to you. From now on, when itās your night duty, if you see him staying up late again, persuade him, donāt let him ignore his health."
Nanny Qin lowered her head and knees, "Madamās instructions, Iāll keep in mind."
Wen Wan took her hand, "Our household needs a diligent nanny like you. Take good care of Qi Bao, and if you do well, youāll certainly be rewarded."
Nanny Qin showed a smile, "Thank you, madam."
Song Wei waited at the door for Wen Wan, seeing her coming out with a smile, he asked, "Why are you smiling?"
"Iām smiling because our family has found a treasure."
"Hmm?"
Wen Wan counted on her fingers, "My dear, look at this Nanny Qin, she can both breastfeed and massage, sheās righteous, coming to take over from her colleague at night, hardworking and enduring, and she doesnāt forget to care for the master at critical moments. Isnāt she wonderful?"
Song Wei chuckled, tapping her head with the book, "What are you trying to say?"
"Nothing." Wen Wan replied, "I just genuinely think this nanny is truly good."
"If sheās good, keep her. If you donāt like her, find a chance to let her go," Song Wei spoke indifferently.
"Thatās not possible." Wen Wan snorted softly, "If she leaves, who will help supervise whether youāre staying up late again?"
In the dim light beneath the corridor eaves, Song Wei clearly saw her playful demeanor, and couldnāt help but chuckle again, a trace of affection secretly emerged in his eyes.
After returning to the room, Wen Wan no longer chatted idly with Song Wei and urged him to sleep quickly.
Song Weiās routine was not as regular as Yun Huai and Zhao Xi, but no matter how late he slept, unless itās a day off the next day, he was always able to wake up on time.
After having breakfast, Wen Wan had already prepared lunch and delivered it to the table.
Song Wei, seeing this, asked her, "Did you make it yourself?"
Wen Wan nodded, "Rarely diligent once, will the master dislike my poor skills?"
Song Wei was amused by her, "Didnāt sleep late last night, arenāt you tired?"
"Iām going to visit the fabric shop today." Wen Wan returned to a serious expression, "I plan to go out with my husband, thatās why I woke up early."
