Pei Jueās eyes burned with passion, yet his face was unexpectedly calm.
He bent down, steadied the maidenās shoulders with his hands, and attempted to move her face, creased from being pressed against the desk...
Two rows of soft, dense eyelashes lightly brushed against the palm of his hand.
There was a flash of explosive light that flickered and disappeared in his dark pupils.
In recent days, Pei Jueās energy had been devoted to warfare, and he hadnāt taken his medicine for a long time, but his body, tormented by lust, did not spare him just because General Pei was preoccupied with the war.
It was bearable when Feng Yun was not by his side, but once she was within reach, a fierce desire surged wildly up his spine; the trapped beast within him raged, calling to break free from its cage, beyond his control.
After a moment of silence, his large palm settled on her waist, and with a bit of force, he swept her sidewards into his embrace. The woman, still asleep, sensed discomfort and turned, finding solid comfort in his armsāit was so familiar, so natural.
Pei Jueās Adamās apple moved as he lowered his head to glance at her, then gently laid her on the bed, placed a soft pillow under her head, covered her with a blanket, and then sat on the edge of the bed, quietly watching her.
A general does not shed his armor during war.
Pei Jue was no exception.
Once he donned his armor, always ready to enter the fray, he wouldnāt take it off, fearing there would be no time...
He sat very steadily, his face as inscrutable as usual, as if there were no wild beast roaring underneath, as though he were fighting a battle against himself...
He did not move an inch.
Restraint was something he practiced every day; it had gradually become a habit.
After a while, seeing that Feng Yunās breathing was steady and that she had not been awakened, he frowned and turned to look at the things on the wooden case. Then he got up, examined the papers one by one, closely.
It was then that Feng Yun awoke...
She had never been a deep sleeper. Feeling her head slip from the soft pillow, she realized she was not at the desk and immediately opened her eyes.
A tall and imposing figure clad in battle armor, Pei Jue stood sideways to her. His unrefined facial profile was extremely handsomeāmajestic and charming. Compared to the Noble Young Master Xiao San, he lacked some refinement but did not appear crude or barbaric, possessing an entrancing masculine force...
Feng Yun remained silent, simply staring at him.
It wouldnāt be surprising if Pei Jue suddenly turned his head...
And so, her gaze crashed into Pei Jueās eyes.
Feng Yun blinked, pretending to have just awoken, as she smoothed her hair and smiled.
"General, youāre back? Is the war going well?"
Pei Jue grunted, "You sleep."
"..."
As usual, not more than half a sentence.
Feng Yunās delicate brows knotted as she shifted inward and patted the space beside her.
"General, come here."
Her gesture was intimate and natural, as if the two were an ordinary married couple. There was no hint of a shy maiden, only those soft, gentle eyes, with a hint of barely perceptible challenge.
Pei Jue looked at her deeply.
Slowly, he weighted the papers with a paperweight and walked over to lean against the headboard.
All was quiet again.
Feng Yun truly hated his mouth that was as tight-lipped as a hulu gourd.
"General?" she asked patiently, "Did you see what I wrote?"
Pei Jue grunted again.
Feng Yun: "And? How is it?"
After a momentās thought, Pei Jue replied, "Good."
Is that all, "good"?
Feng Yun didnāt get the reaction she expected from his face, but she smiled faintly, perhaps accustomed to being neglected so much that she didnāt feel as disappointed as she imagined.
"It seems I am being childish. General, you are seasoned in the ways of war, surely far beyond my strategies; why should I, a woman, be pointing fingers and getting in your way? Never mind, itās just my wishful thinking..."
She lowered her gaze as she spoke, breathing a sigh so faint it was barely there.
Pei Jueās arm reached out, pulling her into his embrace, and he lowered his head to see the veins of blood in her eyes.
"Ji Ying should sleep."
Feng Yun said, "Iām not tired," and wound her arms around his.
"Are you tired, General?"
Without waiting for Pei Jue to answer, her smiling breath fell on his ear as she chuckled lowly, "If youāre not tired, shall we do something else?"
Pei Jue suddenly grew breathless.
Disordered by her.
