Chapter 848: Chapter 848: Turmoil
"So, whatâs our plan?" Ling Feng asked.
Archbishop Berkeley replied, "Currently, our plan is as follows..."
Half an hour later, Ling Feng left the church alone, heading towards the Louvre.
Meanwhile, at a secret hideout in Paris, the Holy Envoy of the Freedom Organization furiously exclaimed, "Whatâs going on? Why have our people started acting already? Didnât I make it clear that without my orders, no one is to act rashly?"
One of the Freedom Organizationâs elite operatives next to him spoke softly, "Holy Envoy, sir, I just investigated itâthey initiated action after receiving a mysterious phone call!"
"A mysterious phone call prompted them to act? Is their brain full of filth?" the Holy Envoy roared. "Do you realize that this exposes our objectives and influence? Absolute nonsense... a bunch of damn pigs!"
The operative couldnât help but smile bitterly as he replied, "Sir, they received the call from you, otherwise, even with a hundred times the courage, they wouldnât dare move recklessly!"
"My phone call? Thatâs impossible... Could someone have tampered with it secretly?" The Holy Envoy of Hellâs Gate immediately considered the possibility. "What about their mental state? Are there signs of hypnosis?"
"Signs of it do indeed exist!" the man replied. "I suspect our objective has already leaked and is being exploited by someone else. Sir, what should we do now?"
The Holy Envoy clenched his teeth, furious that someone dared use the Freedom Organizationâs forces to pressure them into expedited action.
"Although I donât know who you are, Iâll remember this debt!" the Holy Envoy hissed. "Now what? Take action immediatelyâotherwise, itâll truly be too late!"
"Understood, Holy Envoy. Iâll arrange it at once!" With that, the operative turned and left.
"Hmph, despite the unforeseen circumstances, everything is still within my control. Flies lurking in the darkness could never impede Hellâs Gateâs advance!" The Holy Envoy took a deep breath, the fire in his emerald-green eyes flickering ominously.
Blending into the crowd, Ling Feng strolled through the Louvre, admiring various artifacts and works of art.
As one of the worldâs three great museums, covering nearly 200 hectares with more than 400,000 exhibits, this place encapsulated the essence of human cultural artistry!
Whether itâs the Louvreâs three crown jewels or other masterpieces, they evoke extreme awe. Even without any artistic inclination, walking through the Louvre and sensing the essence of humanityâs cultural achievements feels like undergoing a spiritual cleansing.
"People nowadays marvel at the Louvreâs greatness, but how many truly know that its collections are steeped in countless dirty deals and bloodshed?" Ling Fengâs heart chilled.
Ling Feng was acutely aware that during the catastrophes of old, many of Huaxiaâs cultural treasures ended up overseas, including numerous invaluable items now displayed within the Louvre.
"When stolen goods remain untouched over time, do they truly become their rightful possessions?" Ling Feng exhaled. "But as a citizen of Huaxia, Iâm here to collect some interest today!"
The barbarity of past thieves claimed Huaxiaâs treasures, and now, over a century later, they shamelessly showcase them. Every Huaxia artifact within the Louvre seems to silently admonish visitors from Huaxia.
"These treasures, crafted by the wisdom and sacrifices of our forebears, do not belong here. Their roots are in Huaxia!"
As Ling Feng contemplated, his gaze suddenly landed on a familiar figureânone other than the Holy Envoy of Hellâs Gate!
"I didnât expect this guy to take action personally. It seems theyâre hell-bent on obtaining the map!" Ling Feng stroked his chin thoughtfully. "Since I donât know the exact location of the map anyway, I might as well tail him. Playing the role of the lurking predator could work out nicely."
Thus, Ling Feng blended into the crowd, trailing the Holy Envoy and his companions from a distance. Ling Feng had suppressed his presence and even altered his appearance, leaving the Holy Envoy completely unaware of an extra shadow following him.
"Ahead lies the Hammurabi Code, correct?" the Holy Envoy remarked, his eyes gleaming as he gazed at the distant display case.
"Sir, are you suggesting..." A man beside him asked with some surprise.
The Holy Envoy subtly nodded and communicated via sound transmission, "Thereâs little doubtâthe map should be embedded within the Hammurabi Code. But now isnât the time to secure it. Letâs act when opportunities arise later."
With that, the Holy Envoy cast a deep glance at the Hammurabi Code before continuing onward with his group. Naturally, Ling Feng, trailing from a distance, missed their silent exchange and remained oblivious to how close he was to the mapâs location.
After walking a short distance further, the Holy Envoy subtly signaled, prompting several of the skilled operatives around him to gradually disperse amidst the crowd.
"Splitting up?" Ling Feng hesitated momentarily, thrown into a minor dilemmaâshould he continue tailing the Holy Envoy or follow one of the operatives?
Boom! Suddenly, an explosion thundered across the Louvre, causing the ground to tremble. Shortly after, countless display cases shattered amidst a series of smaller explosions, destroying numerous artifacts along with their protective barriers.
Chaos erupted among the crowd; screams filled the air as visitors desperately ran for safety. As ordinary tourists, their first instinct in such a situation was naturally to flee for their lives!
Ling Feng bowed his head and moved outside along with the panicked crowd. Nevertheless, his gaze never wavered from the Holy Envoy of Hellâs Gate.
To Ling Fengâs bewilderment, however, the Holy Envoy stood motionless, unmoved by the swirling chaos, as if he existed in a realm separate from the surrounding disorder.
"Why isnât he leaving?" Ling Feng furrowed his brows. At this rate, the Holy Envoyâs conspicuous presence amidst the turmoil could easily catch the attention of Rose Squad.
"Could it be... heâs deliberately drawing their attention to ensure the success of othersâ actions?" Ling Feng pondered, a sense of clarity washing over him. No wonder those surrounding him had quietly dispersed earlierâit was all part of the plan!
"This means among them, someone undoubtedly knows the true location of the map!" Ling Feng mused to himself. "But now that theyâve scattered, not even a shadow is in sight. Truly..."
At that moment, a beam of light flashed, revealing a Frenchman standing before the Holy Envoy. The man appeared to be around forty, with deep-set blue eyes, an upright posture, and an elegance and allure unmatched even by the finest male models.
Clad in a snug tactical military uniform, a vibrant blood-red rose adorned his chest.
