Chapter 952: Chapter 952 Task Details
Although the plane experienced a thrilling yet harmless incident, it ultimately landed safely at the airport.
Afterward, Ling Feng and Tang Fengxiao were picked up by a rugged Jeep.
After about two hours of bumpy travel, Tang Fengxiao, clutching his sore backside, looked at the dense jungle outside and couldnât help but ask, "Brother Ling, arenât we supposed to be heading to the International Special Abilities Organization? Do they seriously operate out of such deep wilderness?"
Ling Feng, legs crossed, shot Tang Fengxiao a sidelong glance and replied, "What do you think? Donât tell me you assumed they were like the Dragon Group, hiding in plain sight within the cities?"
"Oh, âthe greatest concealment lies within society,â right?" Tang Fengxiao chuckled. "I really thought they were based in some urban setting. Whoâd have imagined theyâd hide out in the mountains!"
"The Supernatural Organization is different from most Cultivator groups!" Ling Feng explained. "Also, the awakening of special abilities isnât something one can control. If the organization were in a populated city, imagine the chaos that would erupt if someoneâs special abilities suddenly awakened! Besides, superpower wielders operate closer to nature, allowing their powers to manifest more effectively!"
Tang Fengxiao nodded thoughtfully. Heâd never encountered any superpower wielders before, so he knew nothing about them.
"Brother Ling, whoâs stronger, Cultivators or superpower wielders?" Tang Fengxiao suddenly asked. "The experts Iâve heard of donât seem to include many superpower wielders."
"Superpower wielders arenât weak," Ling Feng explained. "But they are far fewer in number compared to Cultivators. Special abilities are innate, while Cultivation is acquired through hard work. Thatâs why Cultivators hold the dominant position in our world."
"Moreover, most superpower wielders tend to keep a low profile. Though they might not be famous, their strength is formidable," Ling Feng continued. "If you underestimate them, youâll pay for it."
Tang Fengxiaoâs face showed skepticism. Ling Feng chuckled, knowing Tang Fengxiaoâs reaction was entirely predictable.
Many Cultivators reacted the same way. Until they witnessed the power of superpower wielders firsthand, they were dismissive.
"Oh well, not my problem. Heâll learn the hard way," Ling Feng thought, a trace of schadenfreude in his smile.
After another hour of driving, the Jeep finally pulled into a secluded mountain village.
"Haha, I canât believe you actually made it!" a hearty voice greeted them as soon as the car stopped.
Seeing Dark Nightâs beaming face, Ling Feng jumped out of the car and gave him a powerful hug.
"Youâve become even stronger," Dark Night punched Ling Feng playfully. "I used to be able to sense your energy, but now I canât feel a thing. Your power growth this past year has been insane!"
Ling Feng, a bit smug, replied, "Of course! Youâre no match for me now. Want to spar and find out?"
"Forget it, Iâm not into self-abuse," Dark Night replied with mock disdain.
Glancing at Tang Fengxiao, who had just stepped out of the car, Dark Night asked, "And this is... your little protégé?"
Ling Feng shrugged. "This time, heâs the one handling the mission for me. Fengxiao, let me introduce youâthis is Dark Night, the head of the International Special Abilities Organization."
Tang Fengxiao stared curiously at Dark Night, this middle-aged man who seemed so ordinary. He was supposed to be the leader of the Supernatural Organization? There was nothing about him that felt remotely powerful; he looked like a common man.
"Letâs go inside," Dark Night said, pulling at Ling Fengâs arm. "There are some things about this mission I need to discuss with you."
They reached a small cottage midway up the mountain. Inside, Tang Fengxiao looked around, intrigued by the array of modern appliances. Heâd expected such a remote place to have primitive living conditions, but to his surprise, it had all the modern amenities. The phrase "small but complete" sprang to mind.
"Hereâs some excellent Longjing tea. See if it suits your taste," Dark Night offered, pouring Ling Feng a cup.
The subtle, elegant aroma wafted up. Ling Feng laughed and said, "Just what I neededâI was thirsty."
After sipping the tea, Ling Feng asked, "Whatâs this about your organization discovering a Red-eyed White Tiger? Did that warrant sending out such widespread invitations? With your organizationâs strength, donât tell me you canât handle a mere beast."
Ling Feng genuinely found the task lacking in challenge.
Dark Night gave a wry smile. "You know that our Supernatural Organization has five leaders. Iâm just one of them. The one who discovered the Red-eyed White Tiger and issued the invitations is another leader, named Brown."
"Hereâs the situation: Brown and his team had gone to Death Valley to hunt for Bone-Eroding Worms. During the mission, they split up, and his team encountered the Red-eyed White Tiger."
"When Brown spotted the tiger, he initially tried to capture it but ended up in a brutal battle. In the end, he was severely wounded by the Red-eyed White Tiger."
Ling Feng frowned. "Your organizationâs leaders are no pushovers. How could one of them get seriously injured by a beast?"
"Brown is no weaker than I am," Dark Night said gravely. "Although he managed to wound the tiger in return, it escaped into Death Valley and vanished."
Ling Feng was genuinely shocked. "What kind of beast is this Red-eyed White Tiger to wound an expert in the Demi-God Domain?"
The news was hard for Ling Feng to swallow. At equivalent levels, human combat strength always surpassed Exotic Beasts.
After all, humans were more versatile and adaptable in battle. For the Red-eyed White Tiger to injure Brown, it must be stronger than him.
"This Red-eyed White Tiger is a Divine Beast from local legends," Dark Night stated. "Originally, we intended for our organization to hunt it alone. But, after scouring Death Valley without success, we sent out invitations to gather more manpower."
"Legend has it that the appearance of a Red-eyed White Tiger signifies destruction and death," Dark Night said bitterly. "Thatâs why finding it quickly is so urgent."
"Do you believe those myths?" Ling Feng asked skeptically.
"The Son of Prophecy, Alpha, said soâwhat do you think?" Dark Night replied coolly.
Ling Feng pondered for a moment before nodding. "I actually have a personal matter to attend to during this trip, so Iâll leave Fengxiao in your care for now."
"What personal matter?"
"Just something private. Itâs been bothering me lately, so I need to handle it to find peace."
"Alright then, rest assured. Iâll ensure your brotherâs safety," Dark Night said.
Tang Fengxiao rubbed his nose awkwardly. "Brother Ling, youâre treating me like a child again."
"What can I say? Your skills are lacking," Ling Feng rolled his eyes. "For this mission, follow Dark Nightâs instructions. If all goes well, Iâll come find you afterward."
