Chapter 970: Chapter 970: Convergence
Ling Feng rode the Red-eyed White Tiger, while Yuwen Xiangyu and Tang Fengxiao rode the White Leopard. The three of them weaved through the forest, heading to the predetermined rendezvous point.
Along the way, Ling Feng looked at Yuwen Xiangyu and Tang Fengxiao with a faint, knowing smile. He could tellâwithin just a few short days, a subtle affection seemed to have blossomed between the two.
However, Ling Feng had no issue with this development. Despite Yuwen Xiangyuâs spoiled demeanor, her intrinsic nature was kind. If she and Tang Fengxiao truly ended up together, it would certainly be a favorable union for both the Tang Family and the Supernatural Organization.
Meanwhile, at the edge of Death Valley, members of the Supernatural Organization had already gathered. Each of them bore varying degrees of injuries, and their faces were weighed down with solemn expressions.
"It seems the rest havenât made it," Brown said heavily, glancing at the group. "Itâs unbelievable how powerful the Red-eyed White Tiger is. Several teams didnât even have time to send a distress signal before they were completely wiped out!"
Hearing Brownâs words, the others in the group felt a chilling unease. The teams were evenly matched in strength; if they could be silently annihilated by the Red-eyed White Tiger, what chance did anyone have to defeat it?
"Brown, I have a question!" At this moment, Dark Night stepped forward. Though disheveled, his eyes burned with anger.
Brown responded, "Chief Dark Night, whatâs on your mind?"
"Yesterday, I encountered the Red-eyed White Tiger and fought an intense battle with it!" Dark Night said in a low voice. "While I admit itâs strong, itâs definitely not invincibleâit was a fifty-fifty fight between us."
"I took some injuries yesterday, but I wounded the Red-eyed White Tiger badly as well. By all accounts, it lacks the strength to silently kill multiple teams. Could there be something more to this?"
Dark Nightâs words stirred a commotion among the crowd.
A glint of coldness flashed in Brownâs eyes, but outwardly, he maintained a look of pained sorrow. "Chief, I understand your doubts, but tell meâapart from the Red-eyed White Tiger, who else here would be capable of such a thing? And are you absolutely certain you fought the Red-eyed White Tiger last night?"
"Brown, what are you implying?" Dark Nightâs voice turned icy. "Are you suggesting Iâm lying?"
After the battle yesterday, Dark Night returned to the campsite only to find a scene of grisly remainsâbones scattered everywhere. Yuwen Xiangyu and the others had vanished.
He had searched through the night and eventually found the bodies of others, but Yuwen Xiangyu and Tang Fengxiaoâs corpses were nowhere to be seen. This left him both hopeful and terrified.
Moreover, through yesterdayâs ordeal, Dark Night had sensed hidden layers of mystery surrounding the Red-eyed White Tiger incident. The creatureâs strength was nowhere near enough to injure Brown so severely.
And so, faced with Brown now, he couldnât help but voice his suspicions.
"Of course thatâs not what I mean!" Brown replied. "Iâm merely suggesting that this valley is full of anomalies. Perhaps the beast you fought yesterday wasnât the Red-eyed White Tiger. Itâs also possible thereâs another similar creature out there!"
"Are you saying I canât even recognize the Red-eyed White Tiger?" Dark Night retorted coldly.
Brown stayed silent but offered a faint, cryptic smile. Just then, a disturbance on the outskirts of the group caught everyoneâs attention.
"My god, is that the Red-eyed White Tiger? How is that possible!"
"It certainly looks like it, but how could anyone tame the Red-eyed White Tiger? This is unbelievable!"
"Who is that oriental man?"
...
Before long, Dark Night and Brown identified the source of the commotion. Simultaneously, astonishment appeared on their faces.
Ling Feng was leisurely approaching, seated atop the Red-eyed White Tiger.
The creature, feared as Deathâs emissary, was now someoneâs mount. The sheer audacity of it left the crowd dumbstruck.
"Master, thank goodness youâre safe!" A flash of white light streaked by as the White Leopard appeared in front of Dark Night. Yuwen Xiangyu dismounted from Xiao Bai and flung herself into Dark Nightâs arms.
"Master, I thought Iâd never see you again... Wuu... wuu..."
Dark Night gently patted Yuwen Xiangyuâs hair. The nervous tension in his eyes completely vanished. Finally, seeing Yuwen Xiangyu alive, the unease that had gripped his heart settled.
"Alright, stop crying. Youâre a grown woman now!" Dark Night said indulgently before turning to Ling Feng. With admiration in his voice, he remarked, "I have to hand it to you, Ling Fengâyou tamed the Red-eyed White Tiger?"
Ling Feng dismounted from the White Tiger, which followed him like a docile house pet. The sight left everyone around speechless.
"Itâs just a beast," Ling Feng said casually, patting the White Tigerâs head. Then, he smiled. "Besides, youâre mistakenâthis isnât the Red-eyed White Tiger."
Stunned, Dark Night asked, "What? How could that be? This creature is the spitting image of the Red-eyed White Tiger!"
The others also stared, puzzled. After all, their mission had been to capture the Red-eyed White Tiger. If this wasnât it, then their objective remained unfulfilled.
A shadow crossed Brownâs eyes, but he quickly stepped forward, smiling faintly. "The gentleman is correctâthis is indeed not the Red-eyed White Tiger."
"How can that be?" The crowd exchanged bewildered looks before turning to Brown for clarification.
Laughing, Brown said, "Dark Night, it seems the beast you fought yesterday was one of these impostors. However, itâs not surprisingâthe White Tiger bears a striking resemblance to the Red-eyed White Tiger. But alas, this isnât the one weâre after."
"Whatâs going on here?" someone couldnât help but ask.
Brown explained, "The Red-eyed White Tiger, as a legendary Divine Beast, has more than just red eyes. On its tail, youâll find a scorpion-like barb."
Everyone looked closely at the tiger following Ling Feng. Its tail was just like that of any normal tiger. At last, they sighed in relief.
At that moment, Ling Fengâs voice, faint and cryptic, reached Dark Nightâs ears. Startled, Dark Night paused, then gave a barely perceptible nod.
"Now that everyoneâs here, letâs begin!" Brownâs eyes swept across the remaining group, a faint smile touching his lips. "I believe the real Red-eyed White Tiger is deeper inside Death Valley. To slay the beast, we must venture into the heart of the lair."
Though they had already lost over ten comrades, the survivors were undeterred. In fact, their fighting spirit burned brighter than ever.
