Chapter 1130: Chapter 1129: Meeting
The first dayâs meeting lasted an entire day and didnât conclude until seven in the evening.
Ling Feng accompanied Yun Hanrui for a simple dinner, after which Yun Hanrui lay down on the big bed in the room. She draped her long legs over Ling Fengâs lap and said coquettishly, "Attending a meeting all day is more exhausting than shopping all day, my legs are sore, Ling Feng, give me a massage."
Ling Feng smiled slightly, his hands continuously kneading Yun Hanruiâs thighs, soothing her muscles.
"What was todayâs meeting about? I saw that large global corporations and enterprises related to bioengineering had sent representatives, seems like quite a big deal!" Ling Feng asked curiously.
Mentioning this, a slight seriousness appeared on Yun Hanruiâs face: "Ling Feng... what do you think would happen to the world if one day human technology could control the direction of gene mutations?"
Ling Fengâs eyes narrowed: "What? What do you mean by that? Is this what the meeting is discussing?"
Yun Hanrui sighed and said: "Yes, I didnât expect this to be the theme of the meeting! This world is colorful, every creature has its own unique abilities, which are the results of natural selection and evolution! And the genes of all living things on this planet can ultimately be traced back to the first life form on Earth, the first gene!"
"So, if we could control the direction of gene mutations, wouldnât we be able to control the direction of biological evolution? Furthermore, wouldnât it mean humans could possess the abilities of animals, like a geckoâs limb regeneration, a batâs echolocation, a dolphinâs sonar system... would that then be an era of universal evolution?"
Ling Feng furrowed his brows: "This kind of argument has always existed, but who can truly control the direction of gene mutations? So far, gene mutations are nondirectional and tend to be harmful. Is the person who proposed this meeting topic out of their mind?"
Yun Hanruiâs words reminded Ling Feng of the inhuman gene experiments he had suffered at the Divine Gate!
Hearing the discontent in Ling Fengâs words, Yun Hanrui also remembered Ling Fengâs past. She hugged Ling Feng, feeling a little pained: "Ling Feng, I thought the same at first, but some biological research organizations, led by the International Biological Organization, have already started working on this, and... theyâve even made some progress, which is why theyâve called this meeting to test reactions from various sides and even draw more corporations into it."
"What do you think then?" Ling Feng asked gravely: "Whatâs your opinion on this meeting?"
Yun Hanrui shook her head: "Iâm not optimistic because there are too many uncertainties and it would severely impact human societyâs ethics and morals, but I canât figure out why the International Biological Organization would initiate such a topic? Arenât they worried about external criticism and accountability?"
Ling Feng sneered: "Thereâs naturally someone backing them, otherwise, where would the International Biological Organization get such audacity? The mastermind... is very likely America or the Dark Church!"
"Dark Church?" Yun Hanrui said surprised: "This issue is connected to them?"
Ling Feng nodded: "Donât forget, the people from the Dark Church are all dark creatures. Though they appear no different from humans, in essence, they are dark creatures, so to them, human societyâs ethics and morals are worthless!"
Yun Hanrui furrowed her brows: "What should we do now!"
Ling Feng chuckled lightly: "What to do? Just let it be! After all, this matter doesnât have much to do with us, and do you think controlling the direction of gene mutations is such a simple task? Back then, neither my father nor the Mad Doctor succeeded, let alone that bunch of idiots from the International Biological Organization! At most, theyâre conducting gene experiments on some animals, but with immature technology, they wouldnât dare to target humans yet!"
At this point, Ling Feng sighed! Only a madman like the Mad Doctor would directly use human bodies for gene experiments.
"That madman, getting trampled to death by me, was truly too easy for him!" Ling Feng mused inwardly.
"I no longer have any expectations for this meeting!" Lying on Ling Fengâs lap, Yun Hanrui said dejectedly: "But many companies and groups have shown interest, Iâm really worried about what bad things might happen if more forces get involved."
"Weâll deal with armies and floods as they come! Some things arenât worth worrying too much about!" Ling Feng comforted: "Weâre not the worldâs police, we donât need to maintain world peace, rest assured, even if something happens in the future, Iâm here!"
Yun Hanrui sweetly smiled: "Ling Feng, youâre so good, Iâll give you a reward!"
With that, Yun Hanrui planted a kiss on Ling Fengâs cheek, and Ling Feng chuckled, pushing Yun Hanrui onto the bed: "Trying to get rid of me with just a little reward? Youâre underestimating me! Iâll get it myself!"
The room was then filled with sounds of the two playfully scuffling and panting.
...
The next day, Aiven and Ling Feng sat in a coffee shop. Seeing Aivenâs energetic spirit, Ling Feng felt quite pleased.
"Brother Ling, you probably heard about the meetingâs content from your wife yesterday?" Aiven asked while sipping coffee.
Ling Feng nodded: "Thatâs right, but why arenât you attending the meeting today? Isnât it supposed to last three days?"
Aiven smirked: "Iâm not interested, I had Steward Hill go for me! But I think thereâs something odd about this meeting."
"What do you mean?"
"I donât know if itâs my imagination or something else, but I feel like the meetingâs theme has something to do with the Mad Doctor. This was his primary research direction back then, although he never succeeded!" Aiven said gravely: "So when I heard about it again, I was still..."
"The Mad Doctor is dead!" Ling Feng said seriously: "Not every researcher would be as insane as the Mad Doctor! Plus, weâve already broken free from his shackles, weâre free! You shouldnât keep dwelling on the past, youâre a young master of the Nilas Family now, you need to look forward, not remain stuck in old memories."
Aiven smiled bitterly: "Brother Ling, youâre really carefree! It seems Iâll never match your broad mind in this lifetime!"
