A system notification flashed faintly in my blurred vision.
{Youâve fulfilled a hidden condition. Entering memory recovery state...}
But before I could react, a numbing sensation spread across my body. My legs gave out, and my vision tunneled into darkness. Just before consciousness slipped away, I whispered a command to my undead.
"Hide me... and protect..."
That was all I could manage. If I stayed unconscious too long and my summons expired before the goblins passed, Iâd be found. Iâd die here. Alone.
Unless... unless luck stayed on my side.
When I opened my eyes, the world had changed.
There was only darkness. Not the typical pitch-black void, but something far deeperâ
liquid darkness
. I couldnât even see my hands, but I could feel them trembling. Slowly, my vision adjusted. Beneath me, I saw it:
A vast, ink-black ocean. A sea of void.
One misstep and Iâd vanish forever.
I looked away from the water, the unease crawling through my skin. In the distance, a faint light shimmered. A small house⊠no,
my apartment
âfrom the Blue Planet. My old world.
"What the hell is that doing here?" I whispered.
With hesitant steps, I made my way across the endless abyss. The closer I came, the more certain I wasâthis was my old home, down to the last crack in the front door.
I reached for the knob and pushed it open.
Instantly, the world shifted.
The floor fell out from under me, and for a moment, I felt like I was floating through memory itself. When my feet landed again, I was inside the apartmentâand two very familiar faces were already there.
Both of them were me.
One sat on the couch, legs propped up. The other leaned against the kitchen counter, arms crossed. They looked up and fell silent as I entered.
I broke the silence first.
"...What the hell are
you two
doing here?"
"Sheesh, do you have to shout?" said the one on the couchâ
First Timer Evan
, the one who lived a life before this and met the Thrones first.
"You act like weâre strangers or something," added the secondâ
Second Timer Evan
, who carried the heavy memories and regrets. "Arenât we all... well,
you
?"
My fists clenched. âI thought you both disappeared inside me. I thought you were gone forever after we touched the Thrones.â
"Youâre the one making up stories now," First Timer Evan said, shaking his head. "We said
last
, but it wasnât our last meetingâjust the last
you
could handle back then."
"Yeah," Second added with a sigh. "And now youâre here. Which means something in your soul has finally unlocked."
The two exchanged glances before a familiar hum filled the roomâand a translucent blue screen appeared in front of them. It was
my
system. They were peering into it like technicians inspecting a faulty machine

âWhat... the actual hell?â I muttered.
Even I was stunned seeing it laid out like thatâbut the looks on my two selves' faces were something else entirely.
Second Timer Evanâs gaze locked onto the
unknown vial
, and his expression turned from shock to rage in an instant.
"Youâwhere did you get
that
vial?! That energy⊠it belongs to
him
. That
bastard.
"
"Wait, what? Thatâs just the physique vial I received from the Thrones. Youâre saying you didnât know?"
First Evan sighed. "No, idiot. We didnât. Weâve been sealed here, remember?"
"Exactly," Second added, scowling. "Which is why
you
donât have our full memories."
"Iâm not following," I said, rubbing my temples. âJust explain it to me in basic terms.â
"Fine," First Evan said. "The Thrones didnât give you our memories all at once. They split themâsix parts. Youâll recover each segment as you progress through the Ascension Hall."
"And someoneâprobably those damn Thronesâtried to erase certain
memories
. Especially... about
her
," Second Evan said grimly. "But I fought back. Their tampering failed, which caused the malfunction."
"That glitch sealed our consciousness inside the orb of memory you hold," First explained. "So now, whenever you absorb more memories... we merge. Slowly."
"When the sixth memory is unlocked," Second finished, "there will no longer be a âFirstâ, âSecondâ, or âThirdâ. There will only be
Evan
âcomplete."
I was silent for a long moment.
"...So Iâll become whole, huh?"
âYeah, but the way you said that just now,â First said with a raised brow, âmakes it sound like youâre into some weird âletâs become oneâ kind of stuff.â
âWhat?! No! Thatâs notâ!â
âNo judgment here. We support people like you,â Second said with a straight face.
âI hate both of you,â I groaned, facepalming.
They laughed. I couldnât help but chuckle too.
"Anyway," First said, looking up as if watching something shift, "the process is complete."
I felt it instantlyâa tug on my soul, a pressure pulling me away.
"Weâll see you again at the
Peak Tier Zero
. In the Ascension Room," they said together, voices growing distant.
And just like thatâI was falling again.
â
A searing pain exploded in my skull, like someone driving nails into my brain. I clenched my teeth, my body writhing.
Thenâsilence.
When I opened my eyes, I was lying on the ground.
But something had changed.
The world looked different. My body felt... heavier. More grounded.
I stood up slowly.
"...Whatâs happening to me?"
But the person who asked the question wasnât the same Evan from before.
Not anymore.
To be continued...
