There wasnât a word spoken between the two.
But somehow Diana didnât find the silence to be awkward in any way.
She just sat in her place, her head slightly leaning against the wall.
"What are you doing?"
Kael asked again.
This time his voice didnât have the same rage as before.
Diana didnât reply, at least not immediately.
"What are you doing?"
Now it was Diana who asked the same question to Kael.
Kael raised his head and turned to look at her.
Diana too, sensing his gaze, stared back at him.
For Diana, the time felt as if it had slowed down.
It was after a long period of time that she had truly looked into Kaelâs eyes.
But she could no longer find the same warmth in them as before. Kaelâs eyes looked more like those of a corpse than a living person.
They had no light in them.
Kael always had dark black eyes that were the signature of the Frosts. But at this instance all Diana could see was even more darkness in them.
It wasnât the colour but the feeling of something being lost from Kaelâs soul.
Everyone might have been seeing the pathetic side of Kael, Diana included... But right now, as she stared into his eyes, he felt like the most pitiful creature she had ever seen.
Kael too was lost in his thoughts as he gazed into Dianaâs grey eyes.
Her face was as flawless as it always had been.
"Just... Go away."
After a long pause, Kael spoke in a low voice, barely managing to form the words.
Diana raised her hand and gently touched the face that was now close to her.
She didnât say anything, but just caressed Kaelâs face with a warmth that he might not have felt in years.
Kael at first wanted to swat her hand away, but couldnât bring himself to do it.
It was as if his soul was yearning for something like this.
Both of them didnât move an inch, staying in the same position for a while, before Kaelâs eyes widened in some sort of realization.
He quickly retracted his head, thereby removing Dianaâs warmth that lingered on his face.
Standing up, Kael moved towards his bed.
"Just get away from my place."
Kaelâs voice was now indifferent, with no hints of previous uncertainty.
Though he didnât turn back to face Diana and kept looking the other way.
Diana still had her hand outstretched, before she slowly retracted it.
"Canât things return to as they were, Kael?"
Her voice trembled slightly as she stood up and turned to walk towards Kael.
"Why are you doing this? Do you hate us that much?"
She asked while standing just behind him.
Kael didnât reply, nor did he turn to look at her.
"Do you even know what your family is going through?"
Her voice broke at the end.
"Alicia... Do you know what she is going through? She has not even been able to sleep properly for the last few years!"
Diana didnât expect Kael to answer. She just wanted him to know what his family was facing due to his erratic behaviour.
"Alicia has been taking sleeping pills for the last two years just to get an hourâs sleep. You know what... Forget about Alicia for a while. Your motherâdo you even have an idea of what she is going through!"
Diana raised her trembling voice, the built-up frustration taking over her mind.
At first she had just come to console Kael, but somehow seeing Kaelâs indifferent attitude had begun to rub her the wrong way.
She didnât want to hurt Kael in any way, but her emotions had already taken control of her actions.
And it wasnât like what she had been saying was wrong in any way.
All of the Frosts had been suffering in some way or another over the years.
Diana wanted Kael to understand the consequences of his actions, even if only a little.
"And what if Kevin was made the heir. Since when were you so fixated on such titles? You just had to train to be competent enough, which you refused. So why areâ"
"SHUT THE FUCK UP!"
Kaelâs voice echoed through the room.
Diana flinched behind him.
Kael turned to look at her before grabbing her by the arm and yanking her body towards him.
"WHAT THE FUCK DO YOU KNOW ABOUT ME! HUH?!"
Kael increased his voice again, the rage visible in his eyes that had now turned red again.
Dianaâs heart had started beating faster the moment Kael shouted at her.
It was the first time that he had done something like that. Normally he would just ignore her and Diana would be left with no one to speak to.
But nowâ
"Alicia this! Alicia that! IF YOU SO MUCH FUCKING CARE FOR HER, THEN WHY DONâT YOU TAKE HER TO YOUR FUCKING PLACE, HUH?!"
Kaelâs grip on Dianaâs arm tightened.
"Kael... Itâs hurting."
Diana tried to push Kael away, but he didnât budge an inch.
"And why donât you look after your own family instead of meddling in othersâ affairs. Arenât you some royal!"
This time Kael pushed Diana onto the bed, his grip still firm on her hand.
Dianaâs eyes began to turn moist, her heart unable to handle the turn of events.
"And what do you know about how I feel. You say that me losing the position of heir was my mistake, huh? That itâs just some title, huh?"
Dianaâs body trembled under Kaelâs gaze.
There wasnât a hint of the previous indifference in them.
Right nowâDiana was more concerned about what was happening with Kael than being scared by the way he was treating her.
Kaelâs eyes... They were turning more red with every passing moment.
And it wasnât normal. At least by what Diana knew about the basics of the human body.
Kaelâs rage felt more unnatural to her... Like it wasnât Kael speaking, but someone else.
No.
That couldnât be, as she knew that the person before her was none other than Kael.
But at the same time, he didnât feel like it.
