Chapter 92: Chapter 92: The Officials Actually Got Involved
Faced with Renee Jenningsās questioning, Vernon remained perfectly calm.
He said with a smile, "Streamer, no matter how many times you ask, my answer will be the same. Iām the catās owner."
"Youāre lying!" Renee Jenningsās face was cold, her displeasure evident. "You clearly stole that cat!"
[Wait, the cat was actually stolen???]
[But Vernon just said heād raised it since it was a kitten... I donāt even know what to say!]
[If you want a cat, just buy one. Why steal?]
A flash of surprise flickered deep in Vernonās eyes before he denied it. "Streamer, you should watch what you say."
āThis man is so shameless.ā
She retorted mockingly, "Well, let me tell *you* something. If you want a cat, you can buy one or adopt one. But you absolutely cannot steal one!"
Vernon maintained his refined demeanor. "Streamer, what makes you say I stole this cat?"
A chill crept into Renee Jenningsās clear, pleasant voice. "Fifi told me. You know perfectly well whether you stole her or not."
"Then show me your proof." A sinister smile spread across Vernonās face. "If you canāt, I can sue you for slander."
Seeing his triumphant, smug look, Fifi became furious and told Renee Jennings everything she had overheard in the past few days.
After hearing Fifi out, Renee Jennings could only think, āThere really are so many deceitful men in this world.ā
[Vernon doesnāt look like heās lying... Could the streamer be mistaken this time?]
[Yeah, how can the streamer just accuse someone without knowing the facts?]
[I feel like the streamer is getting a big head, sheās being so rude.]
[Huh? Whatās going on? Seems like a lot of haters are suddenly showing up?]
Renee Jennings glanced at the middle-aged man on the other screen, a slight smirk on her lips. "Your divorced female boss is a cat lover, isnāt she?"
When Vernon heard this, the smile on his face froze. The shock in his eyes was gone in a flash.
His face hardened as he said irritably, "What are you talking about? I just wanted to ask about my pet. Why are you spouting all this nonsense? Are you even a professional pet streamer?"
"I never claimed to be a professional pet streamer. I do this stream simply to communicate with pets, and I donāt profit from it." Renee Jennings desperately wanted to roll her eyes at him, but with so many viewers, she had to mind her image.
[I bet Vernon wanted to steal the cat to suck up to his female boss.]
[Uhh, couldnāt he just buy one?]
[Vernonās getting defensive.]
[I believe the streamer! This old guy is definitely a cat thief, otherwise why would the cat reject him?]
Vernonās face darkened. "I donāt care whether youāre making money or not. The fact remains that youāve slandered me. Wait for a letter from my lawyer!"
"Fine by me." Renee Jennings shrugged nonchalantly. "By the way, a viewer just now was spot on. Vernon wanted to use raising a cat as an excuse to get closer to his boss. But he felt pedigree cats were too expensive and couldnāt bring himself to buy one, so he stole Fifi instead."
Vernonās eyes darted around, his heart pounding with shock.
āHow does this streamer know everything?ā
āBut itās fine. As long as I stick to my story that sheās slandering me, itāll be okay.ā
āAfter all, sheās the only one who can understand what the cat is saying. The audience canāt.ā
"Utter nonsense!" Vernon exclaimed, looking furious. "Pudge is a cat I bought last year! I didnāt steal her."
Renee Jennings said slowly, "You stole Fifi and renamed her Pudge. You did that because your bossās surname is Du."
[Damn, this guyās got some nerve!]
[Heās in his forties or fifties, and heās still playing these kinds of games~]
Vernon was stunned that Renee Jennings knew so many details, and a sense of dread washed over him.
"This is ridiculous! I thought you were actually skilled, but youāre nothing special! Forget it!"
He disconnected the call and immediately left the stream.
[He ran? Is that a guilty conscience?]
[If he really is the catnapper, I feel so bad for that Silver Shaded and her owner.]
[As a cat owner, I canāt stand to watch this! Iām so angry! We absolutely canāt let a person like that get away with it!]
Renee Jennings was furious, too. She was about to send a message to Henry Stark when a comment in the chat caught her attention.
[The police have already used facial recognition to identify Vernon. Donāt worry everyone, theyāll definitely rescue the cat.]
[WOWOWOW, the authorities actually got involved!]
[OMG! The police are going to rescue the kitty! Iām so moved!]
[This is our country, giving us such a strong sense of security.]
Renee Jenningsās lips curled into a slight smile, and she breathed a sigh of relief.
She picked up her mug, drank half its contents, and glanced at the viewer count in the top-right corner. It had already surpassed thirty thousand.
āThirty thousand must be the limit,ā Renee Jennings thought.
She put down her cup and said slowly, "Letās connect with our third pet owner, who will also be the last one for today."
The ID of the viewer who successfully connected was "Lucky."
The split-screen was completely black.
[Why is it pitch-black?]
[Whatās going on? Is this a troll?]
Renee Jennings said calmly, "Hello, Lucky. Your camera is covered."
A strange, elderly voice, like that of an old woman, spoke up. "Streamer, Iām a bit old, and Iām not much to look at. Iām afraid people will laugh at me."
Hearing this, Renee Jennings didnāt press her to turn on the camera. "If youāre self-conscious, you can just point the camera at your pet."
"I have a few questions Iād like to ask you, Streamer," the old woman said.
Renee Jennings asked doubtfully, "Are they about a pet?"
The old woman replied, "No. Theyāre about your private life."
[This person is here to cause trouble!]
[If you donāt have a pet question, give the spot to someone who does!]
Without giving the old woman a chance to speak, Renee Jennings immediately disconnected the call.
āWhat does my private life have to do with this stranger?ā
Renee Jennings smoothed back her hair and said calmly, "Alright, letās try connecting again."
This time, the ID she connected with was "Fisher."
A face with chubby, baby-fat cheeks appeared on the split-screen.
The girl had her hair up in a bun, and her large eyes overflowed with excitement and surprise upon seeing Renee Jennings.
"Wow, I canāt believe Iām the third lucky person!"
"You are," Renee Jennings said with a small smile. "Hello, Fisher. What kind of pet do you have?"
"A Garfield cat." Fisher propped up her phone, revealing the kitten in her arms. "His name is Becky."
Renee Jennings looked at the Garfield catās perpetually worried-looking face, and the smile in her eyes deepened. "Hello there, goofy Becky."
Fisher giggled. "Lots of people say Garfield cats are ugly, but I think theyāre the so-ugly-itās-cute kind of adorable."
[Hahaha, so ugly itās cute. Youāre roasting him too~]
[Garfield cats look so wronged all the time!]
While the viewers were busy teasing the Garfield catās appearance, Renee Jenningsās mind was completely focused on what it was saying to her.
Her gaze sharpened. She looked at the innocent Fisher on the other screen, pursed her lips, and said, "Fisher, why donāt you take Becky downstairs for a walk?"
"Huh?" Fisher asked, surprised. "Does Becky want to go outside?"
