Chapter 143: Chapter 143: How Could There Be These Photos...
Renee glanced at the blue-haired man and said softly, "Itâs good you donât know him well. Donât drink anything he gives you."
Hearing this, Yvette Brooks smiled and waved her hand dismissively. "Donât worry. I always pretend I canât drink when Iâm hanging out with these guys."
Reneeâs brow furrowed, her tone growing serious. "Donât have a single sip."
"What is it?" Yvette Brooks was starting to realize something was off. "Is there something wrong with the drink?"
Renee gave a slight nod. "Yes. I just saw him put a drug in your drink."
Yvette Brooksâs pupils constricted as her eyes flew wide open, her voice laced with disbelief. "A drug?"
"Yes," Renee said quietly. "A little white pill."
Yvette Brooks frowned, her expression turning to anger. âHow dare he try to drug me!â
"Just be careful," Renee said before getting up and returning to Michelle Fullerâs side.
Sylvia Brooks looked at her and asked with a smile, "Renee, do you know Yvette?"
"You know her too?" Renee raised an eyebrow.
Sylvia Brooks explained, "Sheâs my cousin. I just ran into her and we chatted for a bit."
"Oh, I see." Renee smiled. "I donât know her well. This is only the second time weâve met."
Yvette Brooks was surprised to see her cousin, Sylvia Brooks, chatting with Renee Jennings. They looked like they knew each other well.
âThey actually know each other?â
"Vivi," a voice called from behind.
Yvette Brooks turned to see Shannon Lynn calling her.
"Why are you sitting there all by yourself, spacing out? Come on, get over here." Shannon Lynn beckoned to her.
"Coming," Yvette Brooks said, getting up and sitting down next to her best friend.
Shannon Lynn stared at her, sounding rather displeased. "Vivi, whatâs gotten into you?"
"What do you mean?" Yvette Brooks asked, confused.
Shannon Lynn jutted out her chin and pointed to the glass in front of Yvette. "Chance says youâre disrespecting him. He poured you a drink and you wonât even touch it."
"Iâm not trying to be disrespectful," Yvette Brooks explained. "You know I canât drink."
"What are we, strangers?" Shannon Lynn slung an arm around her shoulder, exasperated. "Youâre out with me, what are you worried about? Your girl has got your back, Iâll make sure youâre safe!"
Yvette Brooks pressed her lips together, hesitating.
âBut I *am* worried.â
âRenee just told me she saw that guy, Chance, put something in my drink.â
âHow could I possibly drink it?â
âI wouldnât drink it if you put a gun to my head.â
"The girl in the red jacket is Shannon Lynn, my cousinâs best friend," Sylvia Brooks quietly explained to Renee and Michelle. "I donât like her personality. Sheâs too flashy and aggressive. My cousin always gets the short end of the stick with her."
Michelle Fuller asked, puzzled, "Huh? Then why donât you stop your cousin from hanging out with her?"
"Itâs no use," Sylvia Brooks said with a helpless sigh. "My cousinâs the type of person who just digs her heels in the more you try to stop her."
Renee nodded. "A classic rebel," she remarked.
A hint of a smile touched Sylvia Brooksâs eyes. "âRebelâ is the perfect word for it."
"Danna, I need to use the restroom." Yvette Brooks glanced at the drink in front of her, then stole a peek at the blue-haired man from the corner of her eye. She lowered her voice to a plea, "Danna, will you come with me, please?"
A brilliant smile spread across Shannon Lynnâs perfectly made-up face. "Vivi, how about this? Iâll go to the restroom with you, if youâll have a drink with me?"
Yvette Brooks frowned slightly. After a few seconds of hesitation, she nodded. "Okay."
"Thanks, Vivi!" Shannon Lynn beamed, looking exceptionally happy. "I knew you were the best!"
The two walked to the restroom, arm in arm.
Yvette Brooks glanced back, then asked Shannon Lynn, "Danna, do you know that guy, Chance?"
"Why do you ask?" Shannon Lynn nudged her shoulder, teasing. "Are you into him or something?"
"No!" Yvette Brooksâs tone was firm. "Someone just told me that Chance put something in my drink."
At her words, Shannon Lynnâs eyelashes fluttered. "Thatâs impossible!" she said, feigning surprise. "Donât be fooled by the blue hair. Chance is actually a really honest guy. Whoever told you that must have been mistaken. But hey, if youâre scared, Iâll get you a fresh drink when we get back."
Hearing her say that, Yvette Brooks felt she couldnât argue further.
Back at the booth, Shannon Lynn made a show of getting a new glass and pouring a drink in front of Yvette. "Vivi, I poured this one myself. You can relax and drink it now."
"Whatâs this?" the man named Chance sneered, clearly displeased. "Scared to drink what I poured for you?"
Yvette Brooks glanced at him but didnât say anything.
Shannon Lynn quickly jumped in to smooth things over. "Chance, donât get the wrong idea," she explained with a smile. "Vivi isnât singling you out. She just doesnât accept drinks from people she doesnât know well."
With that, she poured herself a drink and downed it in one go. "Iâll drink in her place to apologize."
Chance snorted, a smirk playing on his lips.
Shannon Lynn put down her glass and went to her boyfriend. "Vince."
Vince was dressed in a black shirt and black dress pants, his hair slicked back immaculately. He was lounging against the back of the sofa, a glass of liquor in his hand, and stared at her with hazy eyes. "What is it?"
Shannon Lynn sat down beside him and noticed a mosquito on his forehead. "Thereâs a mosquito."
Just as she reached out, it flew away.
Shannon Lynn leaned close to Vinceâs ear and whispered, "Why is your boy Chance trying to drug my friend?"
"And?" Vince shrugged nonchalantly.
Shannon Lynnâs brow furrowed. "Whatâs that supposed to mean?"
Vince pulled her into his arms and sniffed her hair. "It means stay out of whatever my boy wants to do."
"But Viviâs my friend!" Shannon Lynn stiffened.
Vince seemed to find this amusing. "So what if sheâs your friend? My boy has taken an interest in her. She should consider herself lucky."
"You..." Shannon Lynn was getting angry. "Canât he pick someone else?"
"Pick who?" Vinceâs gaze turned cold. "There are only two women here. If not her, then you? What, you got a thing for my boy now?"
"Thatâs not what I meant," Shannon Lynn explained anxiously. "Itâs just... I brought Vivi here. Iâm responsible for her."
"Ah, I see." Vince gave a sarcastic smile. "So responsible of you."
Shannon Lynn said timidly, "Can you please not do this to Vivi?"
Vince pulled out his phone and tapped the screen a few times, a vicious smile spreading across his face. "Why donât you take a look at this first?"
When Shannon Lynn glimpsed the screen, she froze as if struck by lightning.
Her eyes widened as she muttered in disbelief, "How do these photos even exist...?"
"Nice, arenât they?" he asked with a grin.
"No! Not at all!" Shannon Lynnâs face was sheet-white, and she was on the verge of a breakdown. "Who took these? Delete them! Delete them now!"
Vince locked his phone and looked at her, his expression full of smug satisfaction. "Let my boy have his fun tonight, and Iâll delete these photos tomorrow."
