Chapter 184: Chapter 184: The Human Who Molests Richie Appears
The only explanation was that the briefcase was a fake.
Lucy Perryās heart suddenly sank.
āSo, everything Renee Jennings said... was true?ā
āBut why would my sister-in-law do this?ā
Lucy Perry just couldnāt understand.
āItās not like sheās short on money for bags.ā
The sound of a fingerprint lock unlocking came from the door.
Monica Ford was back. Her eyes looked a little red, as if she had just been crying.
Normally, Lucy Perry would have asked a few concerned questions.
But today, she didnāt want to ask anything.
Right now, she felt extremely agitated.
"Monica, I just remembered I have something to do, so I canāt stay for dinner." Lucy Perry got up, grabbing her purse. "Iām leaving now."
Monica Ford said hurriedly, "Lulu, the birdās nest soup is almost ready. At least eat before you go."
"I canāt, Monica. Iām going to be late." Lucy Perry left in a hurry.
As the closing door hid Lucyās retreating figure, Monica Fordās expression suddenly turned dark and hostile, a thick layer of disgust surfacing in her eyes.
A few seconds later, she said in a harsh tone, "Little bitch. Itās better if you donāt eat!"
Lucy Perry stood outside the door. Hearing the voice from within, she clenched the fists hanging at her sides.
āMonica Ford, Iāve called you sister-in-law for ten years, and only today do I realize I know nothing about the person you truly are.ā
When Lucy Perry got home, she stared at Cici, the yellow-margined box turtle in her terrarium, and murmured, "Cici, Iām such an idiot. I canāt believe I didnāt trust you and the streamer."
Cici the yellow-margined box turtle bobbed her turtle head in full agreement with her ownerās statement. "As long as you know."
Lucy Perry lay on the floor as if all her strength had drained away.
A moment later, she fumbled for her phone. She meant to send Renee Jennings a private message but accidentally hit the voice call button.
Startled, Lucy Perry shot upright in a single motion.
She fumbled to hang up, only to realize the call had already been answered.
She blinked, uncertain.
āRenee Jennings actually answered?ā
A clear, pleasant female voice came through the phone. "Bunny, were you looking for me?"
"Streamer!" Lucy Perry was floored. "I didnāt think youād answer..."
Renee Jennings chuckled. "I just happened to be on my phone."
Lucy Perry was a little nervous. A pang of guilt hit her as she recalled how rudely sheād hung up during the stream earlier. "Iām sorry. I was a bit impulsive today."
"Itās okay," Renee Jennings said softly. "Everyone gets emotional."
"Actually, I just went to see my sister-in-law."
"And?"
Lucy Perry ran a hand through her hair. "I think what you said might be true."
"Is that so," Renee Jenningsās tone was flat, devoid of emotion. "Did you ask her?"
"I didnāt ask." Lucy Perry still couldnāt bring herself to do it. "But I found a bag in her closet, the same model as mine. I have a feeling her bag isnāt authentic."
Lying lazily on her sofa, Renee Jennings let out a low chuckle. "So you already have the answer in your heart."
"But..." Lucy Perry voiced her inner worries. "I donāt dare to ask her. I donāt have any proof, and Iām afraid sheāll deny it. Iām also afraid no one else will believe me."
On the drive back, Lucy Perry had carefully recalled the details of her interactions with Monica Ford. It seemed Monica was always emphasizing how virtuous, weak, and wronged she was.
Renee Jennings, doing bicycle crunches in the air, said, "If you donāt have evidence, you can create it."
"How?" Lucy Perry asked humbly.
Renee Jennings thought she looked sharp, but didnāt seem all that bright.
"Itās simple," she said slowly. "Didnāt you say that every time you hire a cleaning lady, your sister-in-law volunteers to go and āsuperviseā? Just install a hidden camera and record whatever she does."
Hearing this, Lucy Perryās eyes suddenly lit up. "Oh, right! Streamer, youāre so smart! I canāt believe I didnāt think of that."
Renee Jennings said, amused, "Thatās because your world is too beautiful."
"Thank you," Lucy Perry said with sincere gratitude.
After hanging up, Renee Jennings sat up, grabbed a bag of potato chips from the coffee table, and started eating while thinking about Cici and Mary.
āI wonder if Cici is getting used to things at Richieās place. Without any friends to play with, will she be lonely?ā
Cici was having a great time at Richieās house.
Richie had gone to a nearby pet store specifically to buy cat treats and toys, and he spent the whole evening playing with Cici.
As it approached ten oāclock at night, Richie got into bed, feeling anxious.
He held Cici and whispered, "Cici, Iām counting on you tonight. You have to help me see whoās been assaulting me every night."
Cici looked at him with her big, round cat eyes, nodded her little cat head emphatically, and even meowed twice. "Donāt worry, leave it to me!"
Although Richie couldnāt understand what she was saying, he felt reassured when he saw her nod.
"How can there be such a great little cat?" Richie rubbed her head, feeling the urge to feed her again.
But this time, Cici didnāt open her mouth for the cat treat. Instead, she shook her head.
Richie asked, puzzled, "Whatās wrong? Donāt you like it?"
Cici meowed, "I like it, but I canāt eat anymore! If I eat any more, Iāll get fat!"
"Itās okay, Cici," Mary the Sparrow said from her perch on the windowsill. "Youāre not fat. You can eat a little more."
"Really?" Cici blinked her eyes. "If thatās true, then Iāll just have a little bit more!"
"Go on and eat. You can always go on a diet," Mary said, before pecking at a little snack she had brought for herself.
Only then did Cici open her mouth and bite into the little treat that Richie was about to put back in the bag.
Seeing her eat, Richie breathed a sigh of relief and looked at her with a gentle gaze. "Cici, youāre so cute."
After Cici finished her treat, Richie turned off the lights and snuggled into bed.
He lay on his side and whispered, "Good night, Cici."
Cici: "Good night, meow~"
Richie quickly fell asleep, while Cici and Mary chatted idly.
After a while, Cici yawned and mumbled, "Sister Mary, Iām suddenly so sleepy. I really want to sleep."
Mary blinked her little eyes. "Why donāt you take a little nap, Cici? Iāll chirp if thereās any movement."
"Okay, thanks, Sister Mary!" Cici lay down next to Richie, buried her little head between her front paws, her cute little ears drooping, and quickly fell into a peaceful slumber.
The room was silent and pitch-black.
The closed bedroom door was suddenly pushed open from the outside, and a slender figure crept cautiously inside.
Maryās eyes instantly flew wide with alarm. She called out in a low voice, "Cici, the human whoās been assaulting Richie is here!"
However, Cici was sleeping so soundly that she didnāt react to Maryās call at all.
The figure stopped by the bedside and slowly leaned down towards Richie. A flirtatious voice broke the silence of the night. "Roy? Are you asleep?"
Roy Colton was Richieās real name.
His eyes were tightly shut, his breathing even.
"Heh heh..." A sudden laugh held a hint of smugness. "Roy, you have such a great body. Iām addicted, like Iāve been poisoned."
