Chapter 239: Chapter 239: What If You Beat Him to Death?
Hearing The Bread Lady, Renee Jennings raised an eyebrow. "Your dog suddenly started ignoring you and is sometimes aggressive?"
"Thatās right," The Bread Lady nodded.
A thought instantly popped into Renee Jenningsās head: āThey took home the wrong dog.ā
"Whereās your dog now?" she asked.
The Bread Lady set down the bread she was holding, wiped her hands on her apron, picked up her phone, and turned around, flipping the camera view. "Heās over there."
A husky was sprawled lazily on the living room sofa, chewing on a toy.
As The Bread Lady moved closer, the husky gradually filled the screen.
"Tank," The Bread Lady called. The husky immediately shot to its feet and barked defensively at her.
The Bread Lady took a few steps back, her voice full of exasperation. "See, Streamer? Heās been like this with me lately. Can you ask him whatās going on?"
"I can." In truth, Renee Jennings had already understood a thing or two from the huskyās barksāenough to rule out her initial theory that theyād taken home the wrong dog. "The Bread Lady, who is Finn?"
The Bread Lady sounded surprised. "Finn is my son. Streamer, why are you asking about him?"
Renee explained, "Tank just said that you should stop calling him, and that he made a promise to Finn."
"Huh?" The Bread Lady blinked, a confused look on her face. "Promised Finn what? Could you ask him for me, Streamer?"
"Alright." Renee Jennings called out softly, "Hello, Tank. My name is Renee, can we talk for a minute?"
Tank also realized itāthe lady on his momās phone could understand him.
It let out a curious WOOF. "Talk about what?"
"Can you tell me what you promised Finn?" Renee asked. "Or, you could tell me why youāre being so aggressive toward his mom."
At the question, Tankās gaze toward The Bread Lady grew resentful. "Because Mom bullies Finn! How could she hit Finn? Finn is so adorable!"
Renee Jennings raised an eyebrow, a smile playing on her lips. "So youāre being aggressive toward her because she bullied Finn?"
"No." Tank shook his head and explained, "I didnāt know Mom was bullying Finn at first. But a few days ago, Finn came to me crying. He complained that Mom hit him and told me to ignore her from now on."
Renee Jennings nodded in understanding. "Ah, so thatās what happened."
The Bread Lady couldnāt help but press, "Streamer, what did Tank say?"
Renee: "Did you hit Finn a couple of days ago?"
"A couple of days ago..." The Bread Lady frowned, thinking. "I think I did. The little rascal was making a fuss about playing on the tablet. We agreed to ten minutes, but when the alarm went off, he begged for one more round. He played for thirty minutes and still wanted more. When I turned the tablet off, he started crying. I was so angry at the time... I was pretty harsh with him, and I spanked his bottom."
[Kids are the same everywhere. My little one is just like that, drives me up the wall every time.]
[My sonās the same. The struggles of being a mom are real!]
[LMAO, little human cubs are so freaking adorable. Gets told off by Mom and runs to tattle to the doggo.]
[Haha, the doggo is so loyal.]
[The ones calling it cute have clearly never been driven crazy by their own kid.]
The Bread Lady didnāt know whether to laugh or cry. "I canāt believe Finn went and cried to Tank about it, telling him to be mean to me!"
Hearing this, Tank immediately started barking. "WOOF WOOF! Thatās not it! Finn didnāt tell me to be mean to you, he just told me to ignore Mom from now on!"
"The Bread Lady, Tank isnāt being aggressive toward you," Renee explained with a smile. "Heās just ignoring you. When you speak to him or get close, he barks to tell you to stay away. He made a promise to Finn, and he canāt betray him."
"You little rascal!" The Bread Lady said irritably. "I give you the best food and water every single day, and you start ignoring me just because Finn says a few words?!"
Tank retorted, "Well, who told you to bully Finn? Heās still so little, how could you hit him? What if you hit him so hard you killed him?"
Renee relayed his words to The Bread Lady.
"You..." The Bread Lady was both amused and exasperated. "What nonsense are you spouting! Finn is my son. I love him more than anything, how could I possibly hit him to death?"
Utter confusion was written all over Tankās big, furry face. "If you love him, why do you hit him?"
The Bread Lady replied, "I was disciplining him."
Tank was unconvinced. "Either way, hitting Finn is wrong. Youāre not supposed to hit kids!"
After hearing Reneeās translation, The Bread Lady said with a sigh of resignation, "Fine. I wonāt hit Finn anymore. Are you satisfied now?"
Hearing this, Tankās eyes lit up and he nodded his big head vigorously. "Satisfied!"
The Bread Lady reached out to ruffle the fur on his head, smiling. "Then you canāt ignore me anymore either, you hear?"
"Got it!" Tank nodded.
A relieved smile spread across The Bread Ladyās face. She looked at Renee on the screen and said gratefully, "Thank you so much, Streamer. Youāve resolved my little family squabble."
"Youāre welcome." Renee Jennings smiled. "Iām happy I could help."
"Well, I wonāt hold up the line for the next person. Goodbye, Streamer." The Bread Lady gestured to Tank beside her. "Say goodbye to the nice streamer lady."
Tank obligingly let out a WOOF. "Goodbye."
After The Bread Lady disconnected, she sent Renee Jennings a "Cute Cake" gift, worth 99 yuan.
[Dogs these days are so smart, haha]
[This is so heartwarming, my cold, dead heart feels a little warmer now.]
[My son has been pestering me to get a dog. Maybe I should actually consider it~]
Renee Jennings took a sip of water from her mug. Seeing the comments in the chat, she suggested, "For anyone thinking about getting a dog, you could visit your local animal shelter to see if thereās a little one you connect with. Adopt, donāt shop."
[But strays arenāt raised from puppies, so itās hard to form a bond with them.]
[Plus, strays carry a lot of germs, and some of them can never be tamed!]
Renee replied seriously, "Itās true that some of them donāt have the best temperaments, but not all strays are like that. Some are very gentle. I actually have five rescue dogs at home myself. Iāll film a video tomorrow and show you all."
[Thatās mainly because youāre a pro, Streamer. You can tame them.]
[Yeah, youāre the wonder woman who dared to ride on a tigerās back!]
[When are you going to stream from a zoo, Streamer?]
Renee Jennings raised an eyebrow. "Then if I could help with the taming process, would you consider adopting a stray?"
[Now thatās not a bad idea~~~]
[Iām kinda tempted!]
Seeing the comments, Reneeās lips curved into a slight smile. "Well, think it over. You can contact me if you need help. For now, letās get the next caller."
"CilantroLover" connected to the stream, and a large dog head appeared on the split screen.
[Why does that husky look exactly like The Bread Ladyās?]
[Did the system glitch?]
[Whatās going on?]
Renee Jennings asked softly, "CilantroLover, are you there?"
"Iām here!" CilantroLoverās voice chimed in. She adjusted the camera, revealing a bright smile. "Hi, Streamer! Hi, everyone! My name is Coriander, and this is my husky, Rush."
[Oh man, first a Tank, now a Rush. Are the house-wrecking huskies trying to rack up a high score tonight?]
[Coriander, did you and The Bread Lady coordinate on these names or something?]
