Chapter 251: Chapter 251: Renee Jennings Felt Her Ears Were Dirty
Hearing Renee Brooksâs answer, Kyle Morgan stood up and placed a file in front of her.
"Do âjust friendsâ chat like this?"
Printed on the pages were the chat logs of Evan Shepherd and Renee Brooks sending private photos to each other.
Renee Brooksâs face paled, and she shoved the file onto the floor.
Kyle Morgan bent down, picked it up, and returned to his seat.
Henry Stark eyed her, his gaze scrutinizing and his tone sharp. "On the evening of May 22nd, you were the one who asked Evan Shepherd out, werenât you?"
Renee Brooks wanted to deny it, but then she remembered they had Evan Shepherdâs phone and her chat history with him. She could only nod. "Yes."
Henry Stark: "Where did you two go that night?"
Renee Brooks bit her lip. "W-We went to a private cinema to watch a movie."
Henry Stark: "Was anyone else there besides you two?"
Renee Brooks clenched her fists tightly and didnât say a word for a long moment.
Kyle Morgan frowned. "Heâs asking you a question. Was anyone else present at the private cinema that night besides you two?"
Renee Brooks squeezed her eyes shut, her voice barely a whisper. "Yes."
"Who?" Henry Starkâs dark eyes narrowed slightly.
Just now, Levi Hollis had contacted the delivery driver who brought something to Evan Shepherd on the night of May 21st. The driver said the person hadnât placed the order through the app but had flagged him down on the street, so there was no useful information to be found.
Renee Brooks raised a hand to her forehead. "His name is Justin Doyle. I met him at a coffee shop."
Henry Stark: "Is Justin Doyle male or female?"
Renee Brooks: "Heâs a man."
"How old?"
"I donât know."
Henry Stark: "Why would you ask Evan Shepherd out on a date and also invite another man?"
Renee Brooks blinked several times, looked up at Henry Stark, then nervously averted her gaze. "I-I didnât invite him. We just ran into him by chance."
"Are you sure?"
"I... I..."
"Youâd better answer truthfully. Leniency for those who confess, severity for those who resist."
Renee Brooksâs eyes reddened as she choked out, "This really has nothing to do with me. Why are you pressuring me like this...?"
Henry Stark watched her with a cold gaze, his question delivered slowly and deliberately. "Were you aware that Justin Doyle forced Evan Shepherd to have physical relations with him that night?"
At these words, Renee Brooks trembled violently and stared at him in shock. "You..."
"Did you think the police wouldnât find out just because you didnât say anything?" Henry Starkâs expression was grim, his tone leaving no room for argument. "I advise you to confess. Think it over carefully."
With that, he stood up and left the interrogation room. Kyle Morgan followed him out.
"Look into this Justin Doyle," Henry Stark ordered.
"Roger that," Kyle Morgan immediately replied.
The incandescent lights illuminated the entire conference room.
"Fluffy, whatâs your masterâs name?" Renee Jennings rested her hands on the conference table, her face right up against the terrarium.
Fluffy met her gaze through the glass. "Let me think."
A few minutes later, Fluffy said, "I remember now! Heâs called President Doyle! Everyone who comes to see him calls him President Doyle!"
"President Doyle... Justin Doyle," Renee Jennings murmured. "âThen it must be him.â"
"Renee, let me tell you, my master is so weird. He actually likes males, not females." As a spider, Fluffy found this completely incomprehensible.
Renee Jennings raised a slight eyebrow. "Fluffy, how do you know your master likes males?"
"I saw it!" Fluffy, who lived in Justin Doyleâs office, had seen him touch many malesâ butts. "But if a female gets close to him, he gets really angry, like, furious."
Renee Jennings: "Besides touching malesâ butts, did he do anything else?"
What Fluffy said next made Renee Jennings feel like her ears needed washing.
âGood grief, this Justin Doyle is really into some kinky stuff.â
**
Renee Brooks considered for about half an hour, then decided to confess.
"I met him on a dating app. At the time, I thought he was handsome and rich, so I wanted to see if something could develop with him."
As she spoke, her ten fingers twisted together nervously.
"But after we met in person, I realized he doesnât like women at all."
"Back then, I thought, âHow could any man not like women?â But after trying a few times, I found out he really doesnât like women."
"I had already given up on him, but then one day, he suddenly told me that if I knew any good-looking guys I could introduce him to, he would give me a ârewardâ if he was satisfied."
"I asked him what the reward was, and he said he could give me fifty thousand."
Henry Starkâs dark brows furrowed slightly. "So you sold him out for fifty thousand?"
"Thatâs not it!" Renee Brooks retorted emotionally. "I didnât know at first... I thought I was just being a middleman, just introducing them. I had no idea Justin Doyle was such a pervert..."
Henry Stark: "Keep talking."
Renee Brooks raised a hand to clutch at her messy hair, her eyes closed. "Halfway through the drinks, Justin Doyle hinted that I should make myself scarce. Later, when I went back, I saw Evan Shepherd lying unconscious on the bed..."
Henry Starkâs gaze darkened. "When did this happen?"
Renee Brooks: "The third of this month."
Henry Stark turned his head and exchanged a look with Kyle Morgan.
âThe third of this month?â
âBut according to the clue from the little spider, Fluffy, Evan Shepherd said it was the first and last time.â
Henry Starkâs gaze bore into her sharply. "When Evan Shepherd woke up, did he know he had been assaulted by Justin Doyle?"
"He didnât know." Renee Brooks shook her head. "He thought he had been with me."
Henry Stark: "How many times did this happen this month in total?"
"Three times." Renee Brooks bit her lip and explained, "I didnât want to help the next two times, but Justin Doyle kept offering more money, and I was tempted... I really didnât expect Evan Shepherd to wake up in the middle of it... and in the end, he couldnât get over it."
"Do you know that what you did is a criminal offense?" Henry Stark asked.
Renee Brooks shook her head vehemently. "I didnât know. I didnât think it would be this serious. I donât have to go to jail, do I?"
"Whether you go to jail isnât up to us." Kyle Morgan took out a pair of shiny silver handcuffs and walked up to her, his gaze cold. "That will depend on the courtâs verdict."
Renee Brooks stared numbly at the handcuffs locked around her wrists. The cold touch seemed to spread instantly through her entire body, and large, remorseful tears streamed from her eyes.
Renee Jennings pushed open the conference room door to get a cup of water, just in time to see Renee Brooks coming out of the interrogation room.
"What are you doing here?" Renee Brooks was surprised to run into her, but then her eyes lit up as she asked expectantly, "Did you commit a crime and get arrested, too?"
She was trying to find a sliver of psychological comfort from Renee Jenningsâs predicament.
Renee Jennings: "..."
"What nonsense are you talking?" Kyle Morgan chided her softly in dissatisfaction. "This is a specially hired consultant for our bureau."
"A consultant..." Renee Brooks looked at Renee Jennings in disbelief. "Is-is she really that amazing?"
"Do you really have the mind to worry about whether other people are amazing or not?" Kyle Morgan sounded a little helpless. "You should be thinking about yourself."
Just as Renee Brooks was being put into a holding cell, Justin Doyle happened to arrive at the police station to give a statement.
