Renee Jennings heard the system notification while eating breakfast and felt a fresh wave of happiness, unable to resist eating a few extra dumplings.
"Do you have plans today?" Rhea Dempsey asked, sitting down across from her.
Renee Jennings blinked. "No, why?"
"Then Iâll leave Zane and Jasmine with you today," Rhea Dempsey said. "The housekeeping agency called and said they have two suitable nannies for me to interview. I was thinking of asking your Auntie Ingrid out to lunch while Iâm at it."
"Of course," Renee Jennings agreed with a beaming smile. "Go ahead. Leave Zane and Jasmine to me."
Rhea Dempseyâs face lit up. "Great, Iâll call your Auntie Ingrid right now."
After finishing her dumplings, Renee Jennings went to the living room to find the two little ones. "Want to go out and play?"
Lyris Garden Kindergarten was still temporarily closed for restructuring, so Zane and Jasmine would be at home for a while.
Hearing their auntieâs question, Zane and Jasmine looked up at her, their small, porcelain-like faces filled with surprise. They nodded eagerly.
"Yes!"
"Auntie, where are we going?"
Renee Jennings tapped her phone a few times and pulled up a video of an indoor playground for the two of them. "How about we go play here?"
Zane and Jasmine had never been to a place like this before. Their eyes instantly lit up, sparkling with excitement and anticipation.
"This place looks great!"
"I want to go play there!"
"Alright." Renee Jenningsâs lips curved into a smile. "Iâll buy the tickets. You two go upstairs and change as soon as youâre done with your drawing."
"Okay, Auntie!" Zane and Jasmine replied in unison, quickening their pace as they drew.
Renee Jennings turned to Rhea Dempsey. "Mom, why donât you wait and leave with us? I can drive you to the housekeeping agency."
"No need. Just drop me off at the subway station," Rhea Dempsey said, waving her hand dismissively.
Zane and Jasmine finished their drawings quickly.
"Auntie, weâre done!"
"Auntie, weâre going to change now!"
"Letâs go." Renee Jennings led the two little ones upstairs.
Seeing them go, Rhea Dempsey called after her, "Remember to bring a few changes of clothes for them!"
Renee Jennings called back, "Okay, got it!"
At 10:40 a.m., with the weather pleasant and the sun bright, the car stopped at the Geâan subway station, and Rhea Dempsey got out.
"Be careful on your way, Grandma!"
"Bye-bye, Grandma."
The two little ones called out in their sweet, childish voices from behind the car window.
"Alright, letâs get going," Renee Jennings said, rolling up the window.
Zane and Jasmine sat back down obediently.
At 11:30 a.m., Renee Jennings scanned their tickets and entered the indoor playground with Zane and Jasmine.
It was almost lunchtime, and the playground had its own family-friendly restaurant. Renee Jennings decided to have the two little ones eat first so they could play to their heartsâ content on a full stomach.
Perhaps because it was a weekday, there werenât many children at the playground.
Renee Jennings followed Zane and Jasmine the entire time, changing their clothes twice and taking nearly a hundred photos.
ăAt 4:00 p.m.ă
The three of them left the indoor playground.
Renee Jennings first took their changed clothes back to the car. The plan was to take the two little ones to dinner and then see a childrenâs movie before heading home.
While waiting for the elevator in the parking garage, Renee Jennings crouched down next to Zane and Jasmine, letting them look at pictures of food on her phone.
"Tell me to stop if you see anything you want to eat."
Suddenly, she heard footsteps behind her and instinctively turned her head to look.
It was two men in sharp suits who looked like business elites.
She turned back, but then the movement of her hand froze, and her eyelashes trembled slightly.
âThese two men look so familiar...â
Renee Jennings pursed her lips. Just as she was hesitating about whether to take another look, she heard a familiar voice.
"Miss Jennings, what a coincidence." Joel Joyce was the one who spoke, greeting her.
Renee Jennings: "..."
She stood up, her gaze falling on Joel Joyceâs face as she forced a smile. "Assistant Joyce, long time no see."
After speaking, she snuck a peek at Jaden Forrest out of the corner of her eye, her heart pounding with nerves.
Renee Jennings subtly moved to shield the two little ones behind her.
Jaden Forrestâs expression was neutral, but his posture exuded an air of arrogance. He gave her a slight nod, which served as a greeting.
Ever since Renee Jennings had paid Jaden Forrest back the four million, Joel Joyceâs impression of her had changed for the better.
He looked at the two children beside her and asked with a smile, "Miss Jennings, are these your younger brother and sister?"
Renee Jennings: "..."
"No." She shook her head but didnât elaborate.
Seeing this, a flash of surprise crossed Joel Joyceâs eyes. "Then... are they your children?"
Renee Jennings hadnât expected him to be so nosy. "No, theyâre my sisterâs children."
"Oh, I see." Joel Joyce nodded and added with a complimentary smile, "Theyâre very cute."
Renee Jennings replied coolly, "Thank you."
DINGâThe elevator arrived just then, its doors slowly sliding open.
Joel Joyce held a hand up to block the door. "Miss Jennings, after you."
"Thank you." Renee Jennings led Zane and Jasmine into the elevator car.
Jaden Forrest and Joel Joyce followed them in and pressed the button for their floor.
Joel Joyce looked at the two adorable, innocent little faces. An idea suddenly struck him. He took a few pieces of chocolate from his pocket, bent down, and offered them. "Hey, little ones. Would you like some chocolate?"
Zane and Jasmine looked at him timidly.
Zane pursed his lips and said politely, "Thank you, Mister, but weâre okay."
âMommy told us not to take things from strangers.â
Hearing this, Joel Joyce smiled. "Alright, then."
He pulled the chocolates back and put them back in his pocket.
The elevator stopped, and Renee Jennings led Zane and Jasmine out of the car.
Joel Joyce watched their backs disappear as the elevator doors slowly closed.
"I never would have guessed Miss Jennings was good with kids," Joel Joyce remarked to Jaden Forrest. His gaze paused for a moment, and he added hesitantly, "President Forrest, I just realized... that little boy looks a bit like you."
In fact, the more he thought about it, the stronger the resemblance seemed.
Joel Joyce couldnât help but joke, "Any kids you have in the future might not even look as much like you as he does."
Jaden Forrest: "..."
His brow furrowed slightly, and his tone was cold. "Do you have too much free time?"
Joel Joyceâs smile vanished. "No, sir," he said quickly.
Renee Jennings glanced back. Seeing no sign of Jaden Forrest or Joel Joyce, she couldnât help but let out a long sigh of relief.
"Auntie, were those two misters your friends?" Zane asked curiously.
Renee Jennings said softly, "Not really friends."
Jasmine added in her sweet voice, "The mister who doesnât smile is really handsome."
âThe mister who doesnât smile? Jaden Forrest?â
âHe really is good-looking. Heâs the male lead of the book, after all.â
"I also think that cool-looking mister was super handsome." Zane had actually been sneaking glances at Jaden Forrest the whole time.
It was the first time he had ever seen someone so handsome.
âI wonder if Iâll be that handsome when I grow up?â
Renee Jennings didnât know how to respond, so she simply changed the subject, distracting the two little ones by taking them to find something good to eat.
During dinner, she booked three movie tickets.
Even though children under 1.2 meters tall got in for free, Renee Jennings wanted them to have their own comfortable seats.
The movie started at 6:10 p.m. and ended at 7:30 p.m.
As they walked out of the movie theater, Renee Jennings told Zane and Jasmine, "Your mom is coming to meet us."
"Where is Mommy?" Jasmine asked, tilting her head back with an expectant look on her face.
Renee Jennings took out her phone and smiled. "Auntie will call Mommy right now and ask."
