Chapter 364: Chapter 364: The Law of Nature
Renee Jennings was momentarily speechless at Wesās matter-of-fact tone.
She pursed her lips before asking, "Did your master tell you she bought that as food for you?"
Wes blinked his big dog eyes. "Does that even need to be said? If it wasnāt for me to eat, why would Master have brought it home?"
Renee Jennings: "..."
[System 009 suddenly spoke up: Dogs are highly intelligent pets with a very strong sense of territory and jealousy. Itās highly likely it ate that little kitten on purpose.]
Renee Jennings raised an eyebrow slightly, a little surprised that System 009 would pop up at a time like this.
She thought so, too. Wes had deliberately eaten the kitten.
"You should know that the little kitten was your masterās new pet. Its status in this house was the same as yours."
Hearing this, Wes immediately jumped to his feet, barking in protest, "Nonsense! Stop trying to fool a dog! Thatās impossible! No pet can compare to me!"
Seeing how loudly it was barking, PotatoPop quickly made a shushing gesture. "Wes, quiet down. Youāll bother the neighbors."
Wes immediately walked over to her and nuzzled his big head into her arms.
PotatoPop stroked Wesās head and said to Renee Jennings on the screen, "See, streamer? Wes is so good and obedient. Thereās no way he would eat a kitten."
Hearing this, a smug smile appeared on Wesās furry face.
"Then how do you explain the kitten vanishing into thin air?" Renee Jennings asked calmly.
PotatoPopās brow furrowed, her expression conflicted. "I... I donāt know either."
But she just couldnāt bring herself to believe Wes could be such a vicious dog.
[Renee, did Wes admit to eating the kitten?]
[Iām suddenly getting a chill. I have a Samoyed at home, and I just ordered a silver-shaded kitten two days ago...]
[You have to do your research before getting pets, donāt be impulsive. My dog ate all my hamsters.]
"He admitted it," Renee Jennings said unhurriedly. "He thought the kitten was food that PotatoPop bought for him, but I think he did it on purpose."
"Streamer!" PotatoPop, unwilling to believe the dog she had raised for three years could be so cruel, said unhappily, "Donāt talk about Wes like that!"
Renee Jennings gave a faint smile. "Are you going to disconnect, or should I?"
"What do you mean?"
"If you donāt believe me, then thereās no point in continuing this conversation, is there?"
"I..." PotatoPop opened her mouth but didnāt know what to say. All she could do was apologize. "Iām sorry, Iām really sorry."
[This isnāt our first time in this stream. Anyway, I believe the streamer.]
[Iāve seen plenty of dogs eating cats, and even cats eating other cats, out in the country.]
Renee Jennings looked at her and said resignedly, "When you brought the little kitten home, your care and attention were divided. Wes noticed you were ignoring him to play with the kitten, and that made him unhappy. Naturally, he grew hostile toward it."
Wes was astonished. "Weird, how does this human know that? I didnāt say anything just now!"
"I can guess even if you donāt say it." Renee Jennings gave a wry smile. "You pretended to play nicely with the kitten in front of your master, but when she wasnāt around, you bullied it, right?"
"Yeah." Wes admitted it outright. "I couldnāt stand that whiny little thing from the start. That night, Master even carried it into the room to sleep but locked me outside. That really pissed me off, so the next day I ate it in one gulp!"
Renee Jennings: "..."
āSo it really was on purpose. A dogās jealousy can be so intense.ā
āThank goodness the dogs in her yard werenāt like this.ā
"Streamer, what did Wes say?" PotatoPopās tone was no longer like it was before.
Renee Jennings: "Did you carry the kitten into your room to sleep and lock Wes outside?"
"Yes, the little kitten was very clingy, so I took it to sleep with me," PotatoPop explained. "Actually, I used to let Wes sleep in my room too, but he would wake me up every morning, so I stopped letting him in."
Wes immediately yelped, "Iām not even allowed to sleep in the room, so what gives that whiny little thing the right? I was planning to tolerate it a bit longer, but after that, I couldnāt take it anymore!"
Renee Jennings relayed Wesās words to PotatoPop.
She looked at Wes beside her, trembling all over. A sudden chill shot up from the soles of her feet to her heart, filled with both fear and self-reproach.
āJust because she brought the kitten into the room to sleep, Wes ate it?ā
āShe had gotten the little kitten killed.ā
For a moment, PotatoPop didnāt know how to look at Wes anymore.
Her face was pale and her eyes were red-rimmed. She asked through sobs, "Wes, how could you do this? How could you eat the kitten?"
Wes replied, "Because I donāt like it. This house doesnāt welcome other pets!"
PotatoPop looked imploringly at Renee Jennings. After learning what Wes had said, she suddenly felt that the dog she had raised for three years was a complete stranger.
āHow could it be so cruel?ā
Trembling, PotatoPop couldnāt bear to be in the same room as Wes any longer and got up to go into her room.
[Dogs donāt just eat cats; theyāll eat all sorts of animals smaller than them, even small babies...]
[Ahhh, donāt scare me!]
[Actually, this is just the law of nature.]
[So what are you going to do with the dog? Are you still going to keep it?]
PotatoPop was also at a loss.
Her mind was a complete mess right now, constantly flashing with images of the little kitten clinging to her and acting cute.
It was so innocent, so adorable...
"PotatoPop, are you okay?" Renee Jennings asked with concern.
PotatoPop suppressed her turmoil and said in a low voice, "Iām really upset right now. I donāt know how to face Wes. I feel like itās going to be so hard to get over this..."
"Then get a good nightās sleep for now," Renee Jennings comforted her. "Think about it again when you wake up tomorrow."
"Okay." PotatoPop nodded. "Thank you, streamer. Iām sorry for my attitude earlier. Sorry to have bothered you."
"I understand." Renee Jennings smiled. "Goodbye, then."
"Goodbye." PotatoPop took the initiative to disconnect and sent a "Cute Cake" virtual gift worth 99 yuan.
Renee Jennings yawned, a wave of sleepiness suddenly washing over her. She rubbed her eyes and said, "Iāll connect with one more person, then Iām ending the stream to sleep. Donāt stay up too late, everyone."
[Okay! Ending early is good. I canāt bring myself to go to sleep until you log off, hehe.]
[Agreed, Iām getting a little sleepy too.]
Renee Jennings glanced at the bullet comments and a smile touched her lips. "Then letās start the next connection."
"SugarfreeCola" successfully connected. A girl wearing a mask appeared on the split screen, revealing only a pair of large eyes with distinct double eyelids. The background behind her seemed to be outdoors.
She waved and was the first to say hello. "Hi, Renee! Hello to the 120,000 viewers in the stream!"
Renee Jennings said with a smile, "Hello, SugarfreeCola. Are you outside right now?"
