Chapter 558: Chapter 558: Robin Discovered a Big Secret
"Brother." Zoe Morgan shuffled on her knees over to Zachary Morgan, her face streaked with tears. "I know youâll hate me for telling you this," she sobbed, "but Yvonne is innocent. I donât want to see her sad and heartbroken."
"Wait a minute," Zachary Morgan said in a deep voice. "Youâre saying Yvonne is my daughter, but I did a paternity test with her. It showed we have no biological relationship."
"It was me," Zoe Morgan choked out. "I was the one who switched the samples..."
Zachary Morganâs eyes instantly sharpened, glaring at her. "Zoe Morgan, just why did you do all of this?"
"For Genevieve." Zoe Morgan pressed her lips together as tears streamed down her face. "This was Genevieveâs wish. She just wanted to have a child with you and for Yvonne to grow up by your side. She did nothing wrong. Her only mistake was meeting you too late."
Zachary Morganâs face was grim. He raised his hand to slap her again, but snatched it back in anger before it could land. "Youâre sick in the head!" he roared.
"Itâs all my fault, everything." Zoe Morgan looked at him, begging. "Brother, please, Iâm begging you, donât drag Yvonne into this."
Zachary Morgan sneered, "The only reason youâre telling me this today is for Yvonne Morgan. You havenât even realized that what you did was wrong."
"I..." Panic seized Zoe Morgan, and fresh tears welled in her eyes. "I realized I was wrong long ago. All these years, Iâve been living with so much guilt and anxiety. Every night, I toss and turn, unable to sleep."
"Oh, really?" Zachary Morgan scoffed, his words like daggers hurled at her. "Then why donât you just go die? How can you still be alive today?"
Zoe Morganâs face went deathly pale, her eyes wide with disbelief. Her voice trembled uncontrollably. "Brother, weâre your own flesh and blood. How could you say something so venomous to me?"
"You remember weâre siblings now? Then how could you orchestrate me sleeping with the woman you love, and then switch Renee Jennings away?"
"But Yvonne is your daughter too!"
"Is that the same thing?" The moment the words left Zachary Morganâs mouth, a sharp pain seized his chest. He hurriedly clutched the spot, his voice as heavy as stone, laced with exhaustion and resolve. "Iâm giving you one week. You will confess this to your sister-in-law yourself."
"What?" Zoe Morgan stared at him, unable to believe her ears.
Zachary Morgan continued, "Whatever your sister-in-law decides to do about Yvonne Morgan, I will support her."
Zoe Morgan stumbled, collapsing to the ground. All the color drained from her face.
Zachary Morgan turned and walked away coldly.
âHe never thought his own sister could turn into this kind of person.â
âSheâs completely lost her mind.â
Even though Zachary Morgan was a victim too, the perpetrator was his own sister. He didnât even know how he was supposed to face Aria Sinclair now.
Inky had never, ever expected to overhear such a bombshell.
âThat male human... is Reneeâs biological father?â
Inky didnât rush to find Renee Jennings, but continued to watch Zoe Morgan.
âIts instincts told it this was a bad human.â
Zoe Morgan stared dazedly at the photograph on the tombstone and took a deep breath. "Mom, was I wrong? I made the dream of the woman I love come true. Was that wrong?"
After a moment, she dug her fingers into the ground, using the leverage to slowly push herself up.
She brushed the dust from her clothes and looked once more at Old Mrs. Morganâs tombstone.
"Mom," Zoe Morgan said with a grave expression, enunciating each word. "I donât think I was wrong. If your spirit is watching from heaven, you have to protect Yvonne."
She got back in her car but didnât leave the cemetery right away, instead driving to another section.
Inky hovered in the air, flapping its wings. Its eyes followed Zoe Morgan as she got out of the car with a bouquet of flowers and walked over to another grave.
"Genevieve." Zoe Morgan crouched before the grave, carefully wiping it clean with a handkerchief. Her fingertips traced the face of the woman in the photograph. "Itâs been a while. Itâs not that I didnât want to visit... I didnât dare."
She lowered her eyes, tears dripping onto the headstone. "Iâm so sorry. I didnât take good care of Yvonne for you. I let her be wronged so many times. But rest assured, no matter what happens, I will do everything in my power to protect her."
Zoe Morgan wiped away her tears and forced a smile. "Weâll protect Yvonne together."
With that, she got up and returned to her car.
Inky followed for a short distance, watching as she left the cemetery and merged into the flow of traffic.
After a momentâs thought, it did a little loop in the air and flew off in another direction.
"Renee!" Inky chirped as it flew. "Renee, Robin discovered a huge secret!"
Renee Jennings was in her study, having changed into a fresh shirt and getting ready for her livestream, when she suddenly heard Inkyâs call. She tilted her head, a smile playing on her lips as she raised an eyebrow. "Inky, what huge secret have you discovered?"
Inky flew to her, folded its wings, and landed on the back of her hand between her thumb and index finger. "Renee," it chirped, "do you know Zoe Morgan and Yvonne Morgan?"
"I do." Surprise flickered in Renee Jenningsâs eyes. "Whatâs wrong?"
Inky thought for a moment before asking, "What about Zoe Morganâs older brother, and someone named Genevieve Hayes? Do you know them?"
Renee Jennings replied, "I know her brother. The name Genevieve Hayes sounds a bit familiar."
"Well, itâs like this..." Inky then recounted the entire conversation it had overheard in the cemetery.
Renee Jenningsâs lips tightened. Her previously gentle, smiling face was now a mask of shock, her eyes widening in disbelief.
âSo Zoe Morgan was behind all of this?â
âThat woman is my biological aunt!â
âSheâd really do anything for the woman she loved.â
Remembering her prophetic dreamâhow Zoe Morgan had led the entire Morgan family to scorn and isolate herâRenee Jennings found it all laughable.
âSo it wasnât because her bond with Yvonne as aunt and niece was so deep. It was because Yvonne was the child of the woman she loved.â
âGetting the woman she loved pregnant with her own brotherâs child, then swapping out the baby born to her brother and sister-in-law...â
âZoe Morgan, youâre absolutely unbelievable.â
"Renee, is this information useful to you?" Inky asked, looking up at her expectantly with its little eyes.
Renee Jennings snapped out of her reverie, a slight smile touching her lips. She reached out and gently stroked its little head with one finger. "Itâs useful. Incredibly useful. Youâre the best, Inky."
"Good~" Inky chirped happily.
Renee Jennings fed it some food, her mind wondering if this revelation was connected to the task sheâd received last night.
âReveal the truth...â
Renee Jenningsâs delicate features settled into a thoughtful expression. After a moment, she picked up her phone and dialed Faye Wyattâs number.
"Hello, Renee."
"Faye, I have something I want to ask you."
"Whatâs that?"
"Do you know someone named Genevieve Hayes?"
On the other end of the line, Faye Wyattâs brows slowly drew together in confusion. "Renee, why are you asking about her all of a sudden?"
Renee Jennings asked, "She was Zoe Morganâs lover, wasnât she?"
