Chapter 567: Chapter 567: This Story Is a Bit Familiar
Renee Jennings said slowly, "Zoe Morgan told Zachary Morgan about this today."
"She told Dad?" Vincent Morganās brow furrowed. "How did he react?"
Renee Jennings stood up and said calmly, "Iām not going to say any more about it. If you want to know, you can ask him yourself."
Then, she turned to Faye Wyatt. "Faye, Iām going to head out. Are you coming?"
Faye Wyatt grabbed her purse and stood up too. "Since your mother is all right, Iāll go with you."
She patted Vincent Morganās shoulder. "Take good care of your mother, and make sure you comfort her."
"I will." Vincent Morgan nodded and walked them to the elevators.
The elevator doors slid shut. There were other people in the car, so it wasnāt until they were in the parking garage that Faye Wyatt finally let out a long sigh.
"Iām suddenly realizing I donāt know her at all."
She was, of course, referring to Zoe Morgan.
Renee Jennings glanced at her and offered a quiet word of comfort. "Donāt feel too bad. There have always been good people and bad people in this world."
"I just never imagined that someone so horrible was the friend I treasured for so many years," Faye Wyatt lamented.
"Okay, donāt dwell on it." Renee Jennings stopped and gave her a hug. "Go home, take a shower, and get a good nightās sleep."
"Iāll try." Faye Wyatt hugged her back.
The two women then drove away from the hospital in their separate cars.
Renee Jennings set her GPS for her favorite bakery and bought a few boxes of small pastries and a loaf of bread.
When she got home, only Rhea Dempsey and a few furry children were in the living room, watching a variety show.
"Mom." Renee Jennings sat down on the sofa and put the bags on the coffee table. "Is my sister putting Zane and Jasmine to bed?"
"She is." Rhea Dempsey glanced at her, then at the bread on the coffee table. "Iāll send Zane a message so she knows she doesnāt have to get up early to make breakfast tomorrow."
Renee Jennings came back after washing her hands and asked, "Whereās Dad?"
"He took a few of his old buddies out for a drive," Rhea Dempsey said, amused. "Heās getting on in years but still loves to show off. Honestly, thereās no helping him."
"As long as heās happy." Renee Jennings smiled and scooped up Cici, who was clinging to her leg.
"Thirsty?" Rhea Dempsey poured a glass of water and handed it to her. "When you left this afternoon, didnāt you say you wanted to talk when you got back? What was it about?"
Renee Jennings took the glass and downed it in one go.
She set the glass down on the table and said softly, "I went to see Aria Sinclair and her son today."
Hearing this, Rhea Dempsey instinctively swallowed. Her hand holding the remote tightened, and she started flipping through channels, trying to sound casual. "How did that go?"
She didnāt even dare to look at Renee Jennings.
"I wasnāt there to have a family reunion," Renee Jennings explained. "I went specifically to tell them about something shocking I stumbled upon today."
"What was it?" A spark of curiosity started to show in Rhea Dempseyās evasive eyes.
Renee Jennings said, "Yvonne Morganās birth mother is Genevieve Hayes, the woman Zoe Morgan is in love with."
Rhea Dempsey was stunned. "She likes women?"
"Yes."
"Iāve got it!" Rhea Dempsey slapped her thigh, her tone sharp. "So does that mean Zoe Morgan was the one who switched you with Yvonne Morgan?"
Renee Jennings raised an eyebrow and gave her a thumbs-up. "Not bad, Rae. Quick on the uptake. Youāre not old yet, I see."
"Wrong. This is what they call āthe older the ginger, the spicier the flavor.ā"
"Wrong again. Your last name isnāt Jiang. Mine is."
Rhea Dempsey burst out laughing at the unexpected deadpan joke.
Renee Jenningsās lips curved into a smile before she continued, "Mom, Iām not done yet."
"Thereās more tea?" Rhea Dempsey immediately craned her neck and leaned in. "Spill it. Quick."
"This Yvonne Morgan... sheās the child of Genevieve Hayes and Zachary Morgan."
"What?" Rhea Dempseyās eyes went wide with shock. "Sheās... their child?"
"Yep," Renee Jennings said. "Zoe Morgan set up her brother and Genevieve Hayes to have a child. Zachary Morgan only found out about it today himself."
"Oh my god." Rhea Dempsey shook her head in disbelief. "She couldnāt have a baby herself, so she had her brother have one for her?"
Renee Jennings: "..."
āSo thatās how it is!ā
The Slider couldnāt help but exclaim, "OMG, is this what they call ākeeping it all in the familyā?"
Renee Jennings turned to look at the terrarium. "Youāre here for the tea too?"
Slider: "Heh heh. Ever since I met you, this turtle has developed a taste for tea."
Renee Jennings looked thoroughly amused.
Eager for more gossip, Rhea Dempsey pressed, "So, Aria Sinclair must have gone ballistic when she heard, right?"
"She fainted on the spot."
"The poor woman," Rhea Dempsey sighed. "Even though her husband was set up, to suddenly find out he had a child with another woman... a child she raised right by her side, treating her like her most precious treasure for a lifetime..."
As a wife and mother herself, she felt deep sympathy for Aria Sinclair.
Deep down, she was also filled with resentment toward Zoe Morgan for what she had done.
Even though Rhea Dempsey was perfectly happy with her daughter, Renee Jennings, she still detested Zoe Morganās despicable actions.
āI hope Phoebe can be happy forever with her parents.ā
**
It was already 12:30 a.m. when Sean Fuller got home.
Michelle Fuller, dressed in a black, princess-style pajama set, was sitting cross-legged in the living room watching TV and holding a tub of ice cream.
"Sis, arenāt you worried about getting fat? Eating ice cream this late at night." Sean Fuller walked over, reeking of alcohol, and flopped lazily onto the sofa.
Michelle Fuller retorted, "Well, I was worried about you, and I got bored waiting."
"What were you worried about?" Sean Fuller asked, amused.
"That youād get duped by some girl."
"I told you, that wonāt happen. Yvonne isnāt a gold digger; her family is very well-off."
"Plenty of girls who arenāt well-off arenāt gold diggers either. Take Sawyer, for example."
"..."
When he didnāt say anything, Michelle Fuller stuck her foot out and kicked his arm. "You saw that... Lani person tonight. What did she say to you?"
"She told me some things about her family."
"What things? Did her family suddenly fall on hard times? Does she need to borrow money from you?"
Sean Fuller laughed helplessly. "Sis, you have such a wild imagination. You should be a novelist."
"Donāt change the subject," Michelle Fuller said, feigning seriousness. "Spill."
"Yvonne... she just found out the truth about her birth," Sean Fuller said, his eyes closed. "She said her biological mother is someone else. That her birth mother and her father met and fell in love at the wrong time."
"The wrong time?" Michelle Fuller blinked. "What does that even mean, āthe wrong timeā?"
"She didnāt say, and I didnāt ask."
"Fine. Keep going."
"Then, her birth mother died from complications during childbirth. Her aunt, moved by the love story of her parents, found a way for her to grow up by her fatherās side."
"Huh?" Michelle Fuller took a spoonful of ice cream and frowned. "Why does that story sound so familiar?"
Sean Fuller corrected her, "Itās not a story. It really happened to Yvonne."
"Lani?" Michelle Fuller pressed her lips together. Her heart suddenly skipped a beat as a bad feeling washed over her. "Wait a minute. Whatās this friend of yoursā full name, exactly?"
