Chapter 50: Chapter 50 Turncoat_1

"Another fight among the prisoners? Who was it this time?"
Facing his subordinateās report, Aiden at first seemed unperturbed, handling documents while asking.
"It was inmates 3201, 3361, and 3362," the guard replied, wiping sweat from his forehead.
"What?" Aiden finally stopped his work and looked up, pressing for details, "Tell me more."
As the head of the prison, Aiden could recall most of the inmatesā file numbers immediately, especially those he was paying extra attention to.
Prisoner 3201 was Avansa, while 3361 and 3362 were the twin assassins who had just been brought in.
The guard began to recount, "Today, after their class, they were being escorted back to their cell when 3361 and 3362 suddenly attacked 3201, trying to poke her eyes out. They didnāt succeed, and then 3201 struck back, injuring both of them."
Aiden wasnāt surprised by the outcome. Being assassins reared by Meiruki as well, the twin assassins were nowhere near Avansaās level of combat ability, and even with a surprise attack, they were no match for her.
"Whatās the situation now?" Aiden inquired further.
"Inmate 3361 has a cracked rib, and inmate 3362 got hit in the chin, knocking her out for five minutes. They are both in the infirmary recuperating, and inmate 3201 is cooperating with the questioning."
"Have they found out anything?"
"Nothing. Inmate 3201 claims she has no idea why the twins attacked her, and the twins havenāt said a word. Warden, what do you think..." The guard asked carefully, seeking Aidenās opinion.
Aiden rubbed his temples, feeling a bit agitated by the constant stream of incidents.
A couple of days ago, the strange mass sickness in the core area made him suspect drugs were being circulated among the inmates, yet he couldnāt get to the bottom of it.
Although he suspected inmate 3340 was up to something, he couldnāt do anything without evidence to back it up.
Just as one mystery remained unsolved, another incident had cropped up.
When the twin assassins entered the prison, he felt vaguely alert.
Assassins trained by Meiruki usually lack a will of their own.
If they attacked Avansa, could it be because Meiruki had previously ordered it?
But he couldnāt think of any reason Meiruki would want to harm Avansa.
With the secret method of erasing memories, there was no need for her to silence her own assassins.
Besides, the twins werenāt capable of handling Avansa, a fact Meiruki herself surely understood.
After thinking for a good while, he spoke, "Iāll take a look myself; first, take me to inmate 3201."
Meanwhile, in the prison library.

"Iād like to borrow this book."
Hearing the familiar voice, Asenna, who was engrossed in her studies, looked up.
The Vampire Prince, Ophelia, was standing in front of her, placing a thick tome on the desk before her.
"Alright." Asenna adjusted her glasses, then reached out her hand, signaling the other to pass her the library card.

"I just canāt stand the way you talk. Would it kill you to say one more word?" Ophelia was somewhat dissatisfied with her attitude.
Asenna made no response to her complaint and simply registered the book on the borrowing card before she raised her face and said in an official tone, "The return period is within two weeks, donāt forget."
"Youāve really gotten into the role of a librarian, or should I say, you now resemble a literary girl more?" Ophelia mocked under her breath, "To think someone who personally killed their own teacher has fallen this low."
"Itās common for Necromancers to kill their teachers and studentsāitās what he wanted to do to me as well," Asenna responded lightly.
Unlike other wizards and witches who practiced black magic, Necromancers who specialized in necromancy rarely took apprentices. The primary purpose for most Necromancers to take apprentices was to kill them at an opportune momentāthe souls and corpses of apprentices, imbued with dense powers of death, were excellent materials for other Necromancers, and of course, the same was true from the perspective of the apprentices.
"Please donāt disturb my reading." After saying that, Asenna continued to bury herself in her books.
"I can break the demon contract on you," Ophelia blurted out. "You should be interested in that, right?"
"You canāt do it," Asenna responded almost immediately.
"I canāt, but there is someone here who can," Ophelia whispered.
This time, Asenna finally raised her face.
"What exactly do you want to do?" she asked, looking directly at Opheliaās blood-red eyes behind her glasses.
"Iām planning... to leave this place," Ophelia grinned, her fangs barely visible.
Minutes later, Ophelia took a book and sat down in the reading room next to Meirukiās minion.
"How did it go? Did she agree?" Meirukiās minion whispered.
"She wants to meet you before deciding," Ophelia whispered back, pretending to flip through the borrowed book.
"A cautious judgment, but at least sheās interested," Meirukiās minion was somewhat satisfied with the outcome, "Next is Dailiās turn, sorry to trouble you."
"You want me to persuade her too? I have no relationship with her at all, you know her better," Ophelia questioned.
"Sheās not necessarily going to be fond of someone who has been expelled from the āWitchesā Gatheringā. It would be very awkward if she directly asked me for details," Meiruki answered, "Donāt worry, Iāll take care of turning the last person."
"Those two should be enough," Ophelia argued, "Thereās no need to involve that kid. That kid is not quite right in the head, she only listens to the warden here, she might even spill the beans on us."
"No, she wonāt. Iām confident I can handle her. Just do as I say," Meiruki responded with full confidence.
"Howās the plan with the drugs going?"
"Very smoothly. Iāve already got quite a few simpletons under control. They will serve as cannon fodder to create chaos, and the next batch of drugs will arrive tomorrow."
"If we make too much of a scene, weāll be caught," Ophelia reminded softly, "He must be investigating your channels by now."
"So what? Iāve sent him some troubles to keep him busy. By now, the dear warden should be at his witsā end," Meiruki said with a laugh, "By the time he recovers, it will be too late to control the situation."
By bribing the corrupt prison guards to provide channels, turning the wardenās henchmen inmates to her side, and using drugs to control the simpletons who obeyed her... The prison carefully managed by that warden was about to crumble under Meirukiās hands.
This is what happens when you carelessly use someone elseās "daughter" youāve raised, Warden.
Avansa belongs to me.
