Chapter 254: Chapter 254 Let me show you my heart_1
Veronica looked at Aiden in surprise, the suspicious woman in black who had seemingly been beaten breathless by Aiden, but her superior still had the stance of facing a formidable enemy.
"The enemy is hiding here! Back to the prison! Quick!" Aiden repeated the command.
"But what about you, sirā" Veronica realized that Aidenās command to evacuate did not include himself, and it sounded... as if he intended to stay behind to "cover the retreat."
"I want to take a couple of shots at him, see if I can smash this guyās head open right here," Aiden replied with a cold expression.
"Then I will alsoā" She unconsciously wanted to express her desire to stay and help, but Aiden stopped her with a gesture.
"This opponent is a bad match for you; your presence would only distract me," Aiden urged, "Leave this place, thatās an order! Trusting your superior is the virtue of a subordinate."
A dark spatial rift appeared out of nowhere right above the fallen woman in black, bringing a chilly wind, and the temperature around seemed to drop suddenly.
Veronica drew a sharp breath, knowing very little about black magic, she had never seen such a mysterious phenomenon, but with just one look she realized her superior was right, this level of opponent was beyond her.
Without further hesitation, she burst into a sprint, heading along a small path toward the side gate of the prison.
She realized that in this situation, trusting Aidenās judgment was the wisest choice. Her superior had the strength to worry about her safety, and the power to protect her!
The black rift expanded, like a beast opening its gaping jaws, the gateway to the netherworld created by the Reaperās proxy opened here.
Aiden kept a proper distance and aimed his gun at the netherworldās gate.
Enshrouded in grey fog, a figure emerged from the rift, and Aiden fired without hesitationāhe had already decided to shoot whatever first emerged from this netherworld gate.
The bullet passed through the figureāas Aiden pulled the trigger, the proxy had already turned the targeted part of his body into mist, and it was quite difficult to harm a member of the Bloodline of a Duke or higher rank with physical means.
Then, the next second, Aiden felt his vision becoming blurry, rapidly turning into a white expanse.
Suddenly... fog rose around him.
Aiden was taken aback, immediately realizing what was happening, after all, he knew how to use this black magic too.
Shrouding the surrounding area with fog obscured the enemyās vision, while the caster and allies could maintain a certain degree of sight.
This "fogging" black magic was also popular among the Blood Moon Cult, such tricks could temporarily shield from the damage of sunlight when necessary, and vampires did not rely entirely on vision.
As undead who fed on living beings, they could sense the life essence from living humans, and High-Rank Bloodline members could even rely on their hearing to locate targets like actual bats after transforming into them!
Therefore, Aiden did not choose to use this trick on the proxy, as it would have been counterproductive.
The vague shadow stirred the fog, and he almost immediately heard the sound of a large swarm of bats flapping their wingsāthe Reaperās proxy had split his body into a swarm of bats within the thick fog.
These bats, as a part of the proxyās body, theoretically could be considered in direct contact with the proxy upon touching any one of them, making it easy to kill someone.
In this mist where the surroundings were invisible, Aiden had nowhere to hide facing the massive number of bats.
By combining the "Deathās Harvest" power bestowed by the Grim Reaper and the special abilities of the High-Rank Bloodline, it turned into such a terrifying killing move.
Without any hesitation, Aiden began to chant the "Return" Godās Word.
The authority of "Death" was too dangerous, even a moment of hesitation could lead to defeat. A real battle didnāt allow for turn-based charging of powerful attacks; facing this kind of enemy, he didnāt have many options. If necessary, he didnāt mind showing his trump card at the first opportunity.
Time seemed to freeze for an instant, then rapidly reversed.
The thick fog was driven away at a speed visible to the naked eye, as if a gale had blown through, affecting only the mist.
The gates to the underworld were already shut, and at this moment, Aiden saw the bats surrounding him, arranged in several columns, ready to attack him from all directions.
Under the influence of the Godās Word, the bats began to fly backwards as if time was flowing in reverse.
The formation of the bat swarm visibly shrank at a speed visible to the naked eye, concentrating back to their point of origin, where they filled a dark red cloak to materialize into a pale-skinned man.
The moment he recognized the attire, Aiden suddenly felt an inexplicable sharp pain in his chest, as the memory of his predecessor being shot through the chest surfaced.
Aiden recognized that dark red robe, with a totem of a bleeding crescent moon at its center, and an eye in the middle of the moon. It was exactly the same as the robe worn by the members of the Blood Moon Cult, controlled by Mr. Blood five years agoāthe cult that was destroyed. In fact, when Mr. Blood killed the previous Aiden, he wore this very robe.
The Blood Moon Cult that worshipped Melifilia and the Blood Moon Cult that worshipped the Grim Reaper were not just similar in name.
From this, it appeared that his conjecture from yesterday based on the Earlās testimony, that Mr. Blood had usurped and repurposed the original Blood Moon Cult for his own use, was on the right track.
The proxy of the Grim Reaper, forcibly reverted to his true form by the power of the Godās Word, looked at Aiden with a surprised expression. Yesterday, when he was monitoring the scene, Veronica had spotted him, and he quickly left the towerāhe did not witness Aiden using the Godās Word to save the Earl.
Before the other could react, Aiden shot him in the position of the heart.

Bloodlines of Duke level or above possessed the ability to transform their bodies into mist. Even if beheaded, they could re-form, and if limbs were lost, they could grow back with a sufficient supply of blood. The only true vulnerability, or the part that could be called their essence, was the heart.
A demon-hunting bullet specialized in damaging the undead, hitting the heart before vaporization, would be fatal to even a prince-level bloodline, but it probably wouldnāt kill a proxy with "Immortal" power.
Aiden was well aware of this; his true aim in shooting through the otherās heart was to seal his shapeshifting ability with the demon-hunting bullet.
The effect of the "Return" Godās Word had not only a limited range but also could only last for a short duration. Once the time was up, the other could use black magic and unleash bloodline powers again, but the demon-hunting bullet would continue to take effect as long as it remained inside the body.
Then he shot the second bullet in the otherās kneeāthis was to prevent him from running out of the range of the Godās Word.
The proxy screamed loudly in pain. Even if he couldnāt die, he could still feel pain, and the agony brought on by bullets with special damaging effects on the undead was very much real.
But what he did next left Aiden dumbfoundedāhe violently plunged his hand into his own chest, tearing open his chest with a force that could only be described as terrifying, and extracted his own heart.
