Chapter 1938: Chapter 1938: What Is the Purpose

Very soon, the answer was revealed.

The group of three came over, with the other person being Phoenix.

Phoenix looked healthier than last time, but her face was still cold, like someone owed her millions.

Lin Lan’s expression was completely different from Phoenix’s—somewhat uneasy, like a young wife visiting relatives.

Li Haiyang had the most expressive look, and upon seeing Luo Ziling at the door greeting them, he immediately laughed and greeted, “Ziling, I apologize for bothering you.”

“It’s an honor for you to visit, Senior!” Luo Ziling laughed and went up to shake Li Haiyang’s hand. “Just to be honest, we were about to have dinner when you called. Since we know everyone has a good appetite, we prepared a few more dishes, and rice, so there’s enough to eat.”

Li Haiyang was startled by Luo Ziling’s words, but then burst into laughter. “Right, we all have big appetites, better prepare more dishes. Later, I’ll have a few more drinks with your grandfather.”

“My grandfather will help you control your drinking, won’t let you overdo it,” Luo Ziling released Li Haiyang’s hand and extended his hand to Phoenix. “Welcome, Captain, please come inside!”

Phoenix only shook hands lightly with Luo Ziling and didn’t say a word.

However, she was quite surprised by the casual rapport between Luo Ziling and Li Haiyang.

Li Haiyang, respected by his team members like a deity, normally stern and serious, actually said things like this to Luo Ziling.

Even with low emotional intelligence, she understood one thing: when two people chat about trivial pleasantries, their relationship is likely good and informal. She had never seen Li Haiyang talk about food when meeting someone.

Since when did Li Haiyang change his way of speaking?

Has he and Luo Ziling become true friends despite the age gap?

Seeing Li Haiyang and Luo Ziling’s close relationship, Phoenix was a bit jealous and looked at Luo Ziling a bit unfriendly.

Luo Ziling ignored Phoenix’s unfriendly gaze and greeted Lin Lan with a smile.

As he fell back a few steps with Lin Lan to walk into the living room, he quietly asked, “How’s the investigation going?”

“It’s confirmed that Chen Jiahu is involved, with Chen Yijing behind it,” Lin Lan said softly then lowered her voice further, “I’ll tell you more later.”

“Great!” Luo Ziling was overjoyed by Lin Lan’s words.

Lin Lan saying this meant they had significant evidence, otherwise she wouldn’t be so confident.

As Li Haiyang, Phoenix, and Lin Lan entered the living room, Ling Ruonan greeted them.

Luo Liansheng also stood up to greet.

“I apologize for disturbing you at this hour.” Li Haiyang shook hands with Ling Ruonan and explained with a smile, “Today I took them out for tasks, saw it was early, and thought of visiting you two and Miss Ling.”

“Welcome,” Ling Ruonan smiled reservedly. “General Li is an honored guest. We scrambled for something, just some simple dishes and meals, please forgive us.”

“No need to be formal, Miss!” After letting go of Ling Ruonan’s hand, Li Haiyang greeted Luo Liansheng like a junior and bowed, “Sorry for bothering you, if any inconvenience is caused, please forgive us.”

“This politeness isn’t your usual style,” Luo Liansheng patted Li Haiyang’s shoulder with a smile. “Are you showing everyone today that you’ve fully recovered? I’ve been watching your steps, and if not paying close attention, it’s hard to notice any abnormalities.”

“Really thank you, Luo Liansheng and Ziling. Without your help, I’d be spending my later years in a wheelchair.” Li Haiyang patted his leg and laughed heartily. “I hope to see a miracle, after some more treatment and conditioning, maybe spar with the young ones.”

While speaking, Li Haiyang gestured to Phoenix and Lin Lan, who seemed slightly awkward at the side.

“That’s a bit too high of a request,” Luo Liansheng let go of Li Haiyang’s hand and spoke sternly. “Don’t expect too much, in just a few months from not walking to moving all limbs freely is already a miracle few achieve. You understand the saying ‘haste makes waste.’ Let nature take its course, recover as much as you can.”

“Alright, I’ll follow your advice, sir.” Li Haiyang accepted Luo Liansheng’s suggestion readily without objection.

“The food’s getting cold, let’s sit down and eat,” Ling Ruonan invited everyone. “Anything to discuss, let’s talk while eating!”

“Alright, let’s talk while sitting,” Li Haiyang signaled to Luo Liansheng to sit, and once he did, gestured to Phoenix and Lin Lan to sit.

Though Phoenix and Lin Lan were strong women themselves, facing the stronger Ling Ruonan, they felt completely overpowered. They sat down very restrainedly, sitting upright, with stiff facial expressions.

“Seniority, are all your soldiers this serious?” Luo Ziling pointed at Lin Lan and Phoenix and smiled. “Looking at them, I’d think they’re here to suffer.”

Luo Ziling’s words succeeded in drawing eyerolls from both Phoenix and Lin Lan.

Luo Ziling didn’t care, and even made a funny face at them.

Luo Liansheng glanced at Lin Lan and Phoenix, and his gaze lingered on Phoenix’s face a bit longer.

Then he turned to Li Haiyang, “This soldier of yours, has many old afflictions. When time and chance allow, let Ziling treat her. Right now it’s inconvenient, but he can still prescribe some regular medicines. Irregular schedules and stress easily lead to disorders. If not treated well when young, sufferings come when older, like you!”

“Grandfather, I’ve been helping with her conditioning and treatment, but it’s not continuous. Her condition has improved a lot, it’s all due to neglecting her physiology and health. Many in Dragon Rise suffer similar issues, not to mention lingering injury aftereffects.” After saying this, Luo Ziling turned to Li Haiyang, “Senior, your case is the best example; neglect in care and incomplete injury treatment can lead to such results.”

“Later, let Ziling assist us more,” Li Haiyang instructed Phoenix. “Your health, let him help treat it; as the leader of a squad, the responsibility is huge. If unable to fulfill duties, the losses are considerable, understand?”

“Understood!” Phoenix sat upright and agreed.

Li Haiyang noticed the slightly puzzled looks from Ling Ruonan and Luo Liansheng and chuckled bitterly, saying, “My transfer orders have been issued, to serve at the military headquarters, responsible for special forces affairs. Report in two months. I hope the successor for Dragon Rise can be decided soon. I’ve been handling follow-up matters and hope to hand over a reassuring Dragon Rise to my successor.”

Li Haiyang’s words surprised everyone present.
