The Northern Group’s lunch time is from eleven thirty to twelve thirty. When Luo Ziling and Ling Ruonan went down to eat, it was almost twelve thirty. By the time they finished lunch, it was about one o’clock.

“Sigh, another day passed in busy toil!” After getting in the car, Luo Ziling said to the driving Wuyue with a helpless expression, “Why can’t I just be like a true spoiled rich kid, spending my days eating, drinking, and surrounded by beautiful women?”

Wuyue rolled his eyes at him through the rear-view mirror but said nothing.

“I just got here too, bringing my mom some goodies!” Huang Chen smiled and invited Luo Ziling inside.

After Huang Chen’s mother arrived, his wife hired a helper to take care of her.

The old mother was adamant about not spending money on hiring a nanny to care for her, and only after Huang Chen and his wife argued with her countless times were they able to convince her.

However, she still handles some of the daily chores herself, as she’s not accustomed to being waited on.

When Luo Ziling went inside, the elderly lady was still grumbling about how staying here didn’t feel right and she wanted to go back to her hometown.

No one was there to take care of her chickens, ducks, sheep, and dogs, and she didn’t know what state the crops in the field were in.

With less than a month to go, the early rice needs harvesting, and she wasn’t sure about the situation with the late rice seedlings.

Huang Chen felt quite helpless about his mother’s complaints.

Seeing Luo Ziling come in, the elderly lady was quite happy, after all, Luo Ziling and his grandfather were there to help her with treatment.

Her health had improved significantly since before the treatment, with much less pain and discomfort.

After sitting down, Luo Ziling chatted with the elderly lady while examining her.

After the examination, Luo Ziling told Huang Chen that he would treat the elderly lady today, and come back in another two or three days for further treatment.

If her situation continued to improve, she could maintain her health with medication for a period, and further treatment could resume after the weather cools down in autumn.

“After a certain period of treatment, it should be sufficient!” Luo Ziling’s words reassured Huang Chen.

Luo Ziling then instructed the elderly lady to lie down, and began the treatment once she did.

Huang Chen quietly stayed by, occasionally assisting Luo Ziling.

After over half an hour of treatment, Luo Ziling finally stopped.

Having already treated Yang Qingyin earlier today, his strength had mostly recovered, but treating Huang Chen’s mother again left him somewhat exhausted.

Seeing Luo Ziling looking so tired, Huang Chen felt a bit embarrassed.

“It’s nothing!” Looking at the already asleep elderly lady, Luo Ziling smiled and said, “For a healer, the recovery of the patient is the greatest achievement and the best reward.”

“No matter what, thank you very much!” Huang Chen expressed his gratitude sincerely.

Luo Ziling smiled again, “Get me something to eat, let’s have a cup of tea later, and I’ll talk to you about your mom’s condition and the follow-up treatment plan.”

Huang Chen nodded, prepared some fruits and snacks for Luo Ziling, and made him a cup of tea.

The helper was sent by Huang Chen to buy groceries, leaving just the sleeping elderly lady and the two men in the house.

The house Huang Chen rented for his mother is a two-bedroom, one living room apartment, and the monthly rent wasn’t cheap either.

Glancing at the simple furnishings, Luo Ziling sighed, “Why doesn’t your mom want to live with you?”

Huang Chen replied with a wry smile, “My mom knows our place isn’t very spacious, and she’s also afraid my wife will look down on her for being from the countryside, so she doesn’t want to stay with us. Plus, our place is a bit far and inconvenient to access, so we let her rent a place here. It’s not far from our old home, so I can come quickly if anything happens.”

“Makes sense!” Luo Ziling nodded and took out a prescription, “When your mom goes home, let her take this herbal medicine for three months, and stop after the beginning of autumn. These are topical medicines, apply them to the painful areas daily, and in a few months, the results should surprise us.”

Huang Chen took the two boxes of ointment from Luo Ziling and thanked him sincerely.

After discussing the elderly lady’s condition for a while, Luo Ziling shifted the topic to Huang Chen’s career prospects.

“Is the old man really planning to replace you? Let someone else take your place?” Luo Ziling asked directly.

“He probably has that idea, but he hasn’t said anything to me!” Huang Chen replied with a wry smile, “Honestly, I’d like to leave too, but I don’t dare to say it out loud. Having been by the leader’s side for so many years, I’ve become a bit numb and tired.”

“If you really leave, where are you planning to go?”

Huang Chen knew Luo Ziling would ask this and gave another wry smile, “I don’t even know where I could go. My ideal is to join the military to lead some troops; if there’s a chance to get promoted, that’d be best. After all, my dream is to be a lifelong professional soldier. However, to be a career soldier, one must advance in rank and position. If I can’t rise above the position of colonel, I’ll eventually have to take off the uniform.”

Luo Ziling looked a bit puzzled, “Aren’t you considering the headquarters or the Yanjing War Zone?”

Huang Chen shook his head, “It’s not easy to get into the Ministry of Defense, even if I do, I’ll just end up in an insignificant role, especially since I’m only at the colonel rank, which means nothing there!”

“But you’re the secretary by the old man’s side, I think he’d still consider you as one of his most trusted people. Both your rank and position can advance gradually; as long as the old man is around, no one would dare deny you opportunities. I suggest you personally discuss this with the old man, propose going to an agency or a field unit in the war zone, and you might get the old man’s support,” Luo Ziling advised, “I think your best career choice is to stay in Yanjing, whether it’s at an agency or a field unit. Everyone in Yanjing knows you and will surely respect you.”

Luo Ziling’s words seemed to have an impact on Huang Chen, who nodded, “I’ll think it over then!”

Huang Chen was momentarily stunned but eventually reached out to shake hands with Luo Ziling.
