CapĂtulo 2263: Chapter 2263: The Old Coupleâs Concerns
Though Ling Mingrui noticed that Luo Ziling was intentionally causing trouble, he surprisingly did not voice any reproach.
He repeated a few of the things he had just said: I hope you can get along in the future. If anyone deliberately stirs up trouble, they will be severely punished and stripped of everything they currently have.
After repeating these words, Ling Mingrui continued: âAlright, let the past be the past. I hope from now on, I will no longer see internal strife within the Ling Family. You siblings should get along and truly become a family. You must understand that other big families are now showing signs of uniting against us. Even the strongest fortress can be breached from within. For the future of the Ling Family and your own interests, you should take care of yourselves.â
Ling Mingruiâs expression was extremely grave as he spoke, and Luo Ziling felt an unprecedented sense of authority.
Ling Haining also appeared very cautious and didnât dare to speak a single word from beginning to end.
After listening to Ling Mingruiâs words, Ling Ruonan and Ling Zhengping did not dare to express any differing opinions and both stood up to make a promise.
It was a heavy meal.
No one had a smile on their face.
Xie Enhua saw this and felt anxious in her heart. She certainly wouldnât let her son and daughter just leave like that.
After the meal, she invited everyone to sit down and have some tea.
So, everyone moved to the study.
Ling Mingrui took out his cherished Da Hong Pao tea, and Ling Ruonan diligently took the kettle to boil water, with Luo Ziling stepping up to help.
Xie Enhua invited Wu Yanning, who hadnât said much during dinner, to sit beside her, and then beckoned Ling Ruonan, who was brewing tea, to sit next to her.
Luo Ziling chose to squeeze onto the small sofa with Ling Haining.
Luo Xusheng and Ling Zhengping sat on either side of Ling Mingrui.
After Ling Ruonan finished making the tea, she sat down by her motherâs side.
Xie Enhua spoke first, recounting stories of Ling Zhengping and Ling Ruonanâs childhood.
When she became emotional, there were tears glistening in Xie Enhuaâs eyes.
Finally, Xie Enhua, with a slight choke in her voice, said: âThese days, Iâve been encouraging Ruonan and Yanning to have another child, whether a son or a daughter doesnât matter. Parents cannot take care of their children for a lifetime. Having a sibling to rely on would give parents peace of mind when they pass away. Children are the continuation of their parentsâ lives. They invest their love and hope in them. Surely, you siblings feel the same way, and you should pass this sentiment on to your children.â
Ling Mingrui immediately continued: âYour mother is right. Itâs the parents who are most heartbroken when there is discord between their children. You are parents now too. If your children were to fight, even to the point of life and death, how would you feel? Since weâve gathered you here today and spoken frankly about this, we hope you will realize not to be obsessed with the conflicts over current interests. I believe that one day you will understand that siblings working together to gain something from outside will yield more than fighting among yourselves. Donât wait until a tragedy occurs to realize this.â
âDad, I will remember!â Ling Ruonan was the first to express her stance.
âI will remember the teachings of our dear parents!â Ling Zhengping also stood up, bowed to his parents, and expressed his acceptance of their advice.
âIn the future, you should often come over for meals with us. Just the two of us eating is flavorless. When you visit often, weâll have some liveliness,â Xie Enhua advised Ling Ruonan and Ling Zhengping. âDonât use busyness as an excuse. Surely, you canât be busier than your father. He comes back to eat most of the time. Canât you do the same?â
Ling Ruonan and Ling Zhengping understood Xie Enhuaâs intention, which was to urge them to come back often for meals together.
More interactions would naturally improve relationships.
Such is the heart of parents everywhere!
Although Ling Zhengping and Ling Ruonan hadnât fully eased their hearts, they both simultaneously thought of this saying.
As parents themselves, they certainly understood the importance of children in their parentsâ eyes.
However, would things develop as Ling Mingrui and Xie Enhua hoped?
Ling Zhengping dared not think about it, nor did Ling Ruonan have faith in it.
After spending some more time drinking tea with Ling Mingrui and Xie Enhua, Ling Zhengping was the first to bid farewell.
After Ling Zhengping, Wu Yanning, and Ling Haining left, Ling Ruonan also took her leave.
Ling Mingrui and Xie Enhua did not try to keep them, only giving a few more instructions before letting them go.
As they were leaving, Ling Mingrui specifically instructed Luo Ziling to restrain himself and not create trouble for his parents.
Of course, Luo Ziling obediently agreed.
Watching Ling Ruonanâs car leave the courtyard, Xie Enhua let out a long sigh.
âOld man, do you think theyâll heed our advice?â Xie Enhua asked Ling Mingrui quietly.
âIf it were that easy to persuade them, things wouldnât have reached this point!â Ling Mingrui said with a wry smile. âDonât you understand your sonâs mindset? He feels wronged and constantly wants to retaliate, but lacking skill, he always ends up suffering silently. If he doesnât regain some dignity, will he stop?â
âAlas!â Xie Enhua sighed again heavily. âWhat can we do then?â
âAt least for the near future, they wonât dare to fight out in the open!â Ling Mingrui sighed again. âHopefully, with time, theyâll come to understand. It would be best if Zhengping falls ill, forcing them to work together as grandfather and grandson; or if Ruonan encounters difficulties that only Zhengping can help with. Only then might their barriers be broken down. Just like how Old Sir Yang treats them!â
âThat makes sense!â Xie Enhua held onto Ling Mingruiâs shoulder, speaking in a dejected tone: âAfter having a son and daughter, I felt very happy. I always thought that once they grew up, they would worry us less, and would take care of us as we aged, often visiting. I never expected it would turn out like this. The most heartless family is that of a ruler, but although we arenât a royal family, it seems to hold true.â
Ling Mingrui was silent, acknowledging Xie Enhuaâs words.
âZiling can sometimes indeed be an unsettling factor!â Xie Enhua sighed again. âThe child can be quite stubborn at times.â
âHeâs actually quite good, knowing what ought not to be done. If he were truly impulsive, the Ling Family would have long been in chaos. The most unstable factor is our son, who still holds a grudge. If he doesnât stir things up, Ziling wonât fight back. This kid is quite competent; at only twenty-one, heâs been able to stir up so much in Yanjing, even I admire him!â As he said this, Ling Mingrui let out a bitter smile.
âDo you mean to cultivate him well?â
âIf heâs well cultivated, he likely wonât backstab the Ling Family. Heâs not someone who prioritizes interests above all else!â
Xie Enhua understood Ling Mingruiâs intent and nodded lightly.
