CapĂtulo 1236: Chapter 59: The City Echoes with the Sound of Killing
Under the night sky, flames erupted all over Cuiqing City.
The sounds of gunfire, cannons, fighting, and criesâŠall mixed together with the stench of smoke and blood.
Yang Lingyue helped the severely injured Hua Donghan swiftly navigate through the alleys.
They witnessed the entire process of Cuiqing Cityâs fall from beginning to endâ
First, the City Defense Array was breached, then several gaps were blasted open in the city walls, and finally the invading forces stormed the city, while the inner defenders couldnât hold them back.
Yang Lingyue wanted to leave with Hua Donghan as soon as possible.
But the Eastern Border Army in Cuiqing City was still fighting, buying time for the civilians to evacuate.
So Hua Donghan wasnât willing to leave just yet:
âI canât hold Cuiqing City, I am powerless, but at least now, I can save a few more people.â
She wouldnât leave, so Yang Lingyue didnât either.
The two Martial Arts Masters fought alongside the Border Army of Cuiqing City, engaging in street battles against the Grassland army, striking back at every step.
Having fought continuously before, their condition was no longer at its peak.
They had separately fought off two Grassland Cavalry units, depleting a significant amount of energy.
Even though they were Martial Arts Masters and could absorb Heaven and Earth Qi using their Tao Foundation, the replenishment couldnât keep up with the losses.
So after over an hour of battle in the city, both their physical conditions were nearing their limits.
Hua Donghan no longer pushed herself, and, with Yang Lingyue, prepared to leave using Flying Divine Power.
But just as they took to the air, a Great Grandmaster from the Grassland targeted them, shooting an arrow that knocked them out of the sky!
After they landed, Yang Lingyue used his Concealing Divine Power, Shadowless, to quickly escape with Hua Donghan, barely saving their lives.
Hua Donghan had been pierced through the abdomen by that Arrow Dao Great Grandmasterâs shot, and was almost completely exhausted, relying on Yang Lingyue to move.
Now, with Grassland people looting and pillaging everywhere in the city, Yang Lingyue carried Hua Donghan and ran towards a less populated area, eventually hiding in a dilapidated courtyard.
Yang Lingyue panted for a few moments, withdrew his Shadowless power, and could almost hear the groan of his Implant within.
He was also close to his limit.
But now wasnât the time to relax; he helped Hua Donghan sit against the wall, then took out a small wooden box from his clothing and retrieved the healing pills meant to save his life:
âTake this medicine.â
Hua Donghan didnât hesitate and swallowed the elixir in one gulp, closing her eyes to regulate her breathing.
The Great Grandmasterâs Arrow not only pierced her abdomen, but the residual Force and Divine Power were rampaging through her body, needing urgent healing.
Yang Lingyue walked outside, looking up at the distant sky.
A figure stood in the air, like a divine eagle hovering over the city.
In the personâs hand was a giant bow taller than a man, his gaze like lightning as he surveyed the ground below.
This was the Arrow Dao Great Grandmaster who had earlier shot Hua Donghan and Yang Lingyue from the sky, the âDivine Eagle Kingâ of the GrasslandsâBamu Shenzhe.
From time to time, he raised his hand to shoot an arrow downward, each arrow like a bomb that exploded upon impact, turning the resisting Eastern Border Army into bloody sludge!
With the âDivine Eagle Kingâ in action, the cityâs defenders completely lost their ability to resist.
Yang Lingyueâs expression turned grave.
With the âDivine Eagle Kingâ present, let alone Hua Donghan being heavily injured, even in peak condition, they would almost certainly be unable to escape from the sky using Flying Divine Power.
As for the ground, any intense battle anywhere in the city under Bamu Shenzheâs watchful eye would instantly result in an Arrow of Death descending from above!
âWe can only hide in the city for now.â
Yang Lingyue felt a heavy heart as he turned back into the room, using his Tao Foundation to absorb Heaven and Earth Qi to recover.
To avoid drawing Bamu Shenzheâs attention, he had to slow his absorption rate to a minimum.
After ten minutes, Hua Donghanâs wounds finally stopped worsening.
Yang Lingyue suddenly turned his head, his sharp gaze fixed on the entrance to the courtyard.
A band of Grasslands people had come searching.
âThereâs a Foundation Stage Martial ArtistâŠâ
Yang Lingyue frowned, knowing it was going to be troublesome.
If he were at his peak, he could silently kill this group of Grassland soldiers.
But now his Divine Power was exhausted, and he couldnât use his divine skills.
Under these circumstances, killing a group led by a Foundation Stage Martial Artist would be hard to do silently.
If he wasnât careful, he would attract Bamu Shenzheâs attention.
Yang Lingyue looked at Hua Donghan, who was healing, a resolute look flashing in his eyes.
She was in a crucial phase of her healing, unable to move or be disturbed, or everything would be for nothing, and her life would be at risk!
Yang Lingyue got up and darted outside, preparing to draw the Grassland people away.
He took one last look at Hua Donghan inside the house and decisively leaped over the courtyard wall.
As soon as he landed, he was discovered by the band of Grasslands people, who shouted and chased after him.
Yang Lingyue intentionally led them away, so he didnât fight back, turning to run.
Just a dozen meters away, he suddenly felt a dampness in the air.
A light rain fell, covering only the area nearby.
Screams and the thick scent of blood came from behind him.
Yang Lingyue sensed something was amiss, and as he turned, he saw the dozen or so Grasslands people, including the Foundation Stage Martial Artist, their bodies pierced by raindrops as if run through by dozens of strands of Sword Qi, all fallen into pools of blood!
It was only then that Yang Lingyue sensed the chilling Sword Intent hidden in the drizzling rain.
âHeavenly Water Sword Technique?â
Yang Lingyue quickly reversed course back to the courtyard to see Hua Donghan, clad in blood-stained green robes, leaning against the doorframe, her face pale, about to collapse.
