Mrs. Mo closed her mouth and seemed to avoid making eye contact.
Gu Shengyin then spoke, "Donât say things like that to me, as if you actually cared about me."
This was Mo Beiyeâs first time talking back to her mother.
Before high school, she revered and admired Mrs. Mo.
But after learning the truth in high school, despite being deeply hurt, she would usually just ignore Mrs. Moâs cold words.
This was the first time she outright clashed with her.
Mrs. Moâs face flashed with guilt upon hearing this, but it was quickly replaced by anger.
"Mo Beiye, is this how you talk to your mother? All the manners Iâve taught you over the years fed to the dogs? Your heartâs just not with us!"
In her mind, no matter how well you raise a daughter, she belongs to othersâ families, so they wonât share your heart.
She always felt she wasnât wrong, and Gu Shengyinâs attitude only reinforced her beliefs.
Gu Shengyin listened indifferently to these comments.
She could imagine, if it were really Mo Beiye, how hurt she would feel hearing this.
But now, as Gu Shengyin, all she felt was sadness.
Sadness for Mo Beiye having such a mother.
Even more, sadness for Mrs. Mo.
Gu Shengyin couldnât understand why, as a fellow woman, Mrs. Mo held such beliefs.
Her three-year-old brother, wearing suspenders, looked at their mother and brother fighting with a frightened expression, and his mouth pouted as he started to cry.
Mrs. Mo quickly changed her expression, picked up her son and comforted him gently, "Beichen, itâs mommyâs fault. Mommy was too loud and scared our Beichen..."
Little Mo Beichen stretched his hands out, wanting to hug Gu Shengyin, calling out "brother."
He liked his brother, this brother was good-looking and smelled nice, unlike his mother, whose scent was overwhelming.
But Mrs. Mo clearly misunderstood her sonâs intentions.
She glared at Gu Shengyin, "What are you still doing here? Canât you see you scared your brother into crying?"
Gu Shengyin didnât move her feet.
She felt a gaze from upstairs and subtly curled her lips.
"Lihua, is this how you teach the children?" A deep voice came from the stairs, carrying a hint of surprise and anger.
Upon hearing this voice, Mrs. Moâs face flashed with guilt.
She quickly stood up, smiling, "I was just worried seeing Beiye hurt, so my tone was a bit harsh. Werenât you in the study dealing with business? How come youâre down so soon?"
Normally, Father Mo might have believed her.
But he had just seen firsthand how his wife treated their eldest son, the disdain in her expression and tone were completely uncovered.
Even as a father listening from the side, he felt it was too much, let alone Beiye who was directly involved?
Father Mo walked downstairs, looking at Mrs. Mo, "Iâm busy with company work, so the kids at home are mostly under your care. Every time I ask you, you say Beiye and Beichen are well. Is this what you mean by well?"
As he spoke, he glanced at his eldest son standing quietly on the side, a flash of pity in his eyes.
Originally, he thought Beiyeâs rebelliousness was normal teenage behavior.
But witnessing his wifeâs attitude towards his son, itâs likely the problem involved his wifeâs influence too.
