Chapter 1098: The Choice of the Past and Future Light Cone
Editor:Â Henyee Translations
Gu Yang found herself standing in a vast, chaotic darkness. She couldnât even see her own fingers in the void.
Suddenly, a bright light pierced through the darknessâa Mobius Ring floating in the air.
She reached out instinctively, and as soon as her fingers touched it, the Mobius Ring transformed into a band that wrapped around her index finger.
In the dark void, with her at the center, two cones of lightâone in front and one behindâilluminated the space, like scenes from a movie projected around her.
From the light ahead, a familiar figure appeared.
âYangyang, Iâm gone now, but you have to eat well. No more being picky. If you keep it up, Iâll throw you into the fields to work,â the old man said with mock severity. His hair was white, but his face bore the authority of a man who had once commanded respect. Despite his stern words, the warmth in his eyes couldnât be hidden.
âGrandpaâŠâ
Gu Yangâs eyes grew misty as she walked toward him, her heart aching with a deep longing.
But as she approached, the old manâs voice and smile began to fade away.
Suddenly, a middle-aged man appeared in his place, his face sharp and calculating, though his body looked frail and sickly. He lay in a hospital bed, barely clinging to life, yet still emanated the dignity of a powerful Family Head.
He pushed a will toward her, his voice steady despite his weakened state. âYou are the only legitimate heir of the Gu family. When Iâm gone, all the billions of assets will pass to you.â
âAs for my illegitimate son,â he continued, âas the future Head of the Gu family, youâll decide his fate. If he behaves, give him some money. If not, you may deal with him however you see fit.â
This was her father.
Her father had married her mother for business. He didnât love her, and he didnât love her mother either. He had a lover outside the family, and an illegitimate child. Yet, before his illness took him, he left the billions of the Gu familyâs fortune to her.
âWhy do you keep visiting that mental hospital?â he had once asked. âYouâre my only daughter, the one Iâm counting on to inherit the empire Iâve built in the fashion industry.â
Her motherâs voice echoed next. âHave you learned anything from those international perfumers yet? Even if you canât create a fragrance, at least learn how to judge one, right? Donât let the paparazzi catch wind that the heiress of an international perfume brand knows nothing about perfume.â
âAnd jewelry,â her mother continued, dressed in a chic and elegant outfit, her tone a mix of coaxing and command. âI donât expect you to be as good a designer as I am, but at least try to understand the business.â
This was her mother.
The scene shifted once more.
She found herself back in the laboratory. A group of researchers in white coats mingled with kind and familiar old men.
When her grandpa wasnât around, they were more like family than her own.
âYangyang, come quickly! Letâs discuss that last case together.â
âThis patient is giving us such trouble. Yangyang, come and take a look.â
âYouâre so smart, so talentedâyou were born for psychology.â
âNonsense. She should be studying human mental illness with us!â
The old men smiled warmly at her, their eyes gleaming with affection. They waved her over, inviting her into their world once again.
Gu Yang couldnât help but smile as she moved toward them, comforted by their familiar faces. Just as she was about to touch their outstretched hands, a soft, pitiful voice broke through the air from behind.
âSister.â
She froze in place.
It was a young manâs voice, trembling with grief, his sobs barely contained. His words wrapped around her heart, tightening with every syllable.
âSister, donât go, okay?â
âYou promised⊠you said youâd always be with me⊠that youâd never leave me again.â
His voice cracked. âSister, donât you want me anymore?â
