"If youâre disgusted, donât look. Just follow behind me; Iâll lead the way," the Warrior said, his eyes cautiously scanning the surroundings. "But watch out for Assassins. This grand competition for new recruits is way too advantageous for them."
"Yeah, I know." The Priestess nodded in agreement.
She understood that being able to go into stealth made things much more convenient. Not only could you avoid being ambushed by other trainees, but you could also evade these disgusting Demons and choose the perfect moment to launch a surprise attack.
All the trainees now had a clear understanding of how tenacious and terrifying these Demons were. It seemed like you could earn points by killing them, but basically, no one wanted to provoke the Demons here. The strength of these Demons couldnât be estimated by normal standards.
Too many trainees had been instantly killed by Demons. They could all see the death log and knew how many people had been eliminated less than a minute after teleporting in. It only took a momentâs thought to realize how frightening the Demons were.
"I specialize in support and have no Attack Power. Iâm a burden to you," the Priestess said, embarrassed.
"What are you talking about? If it werenât for you, I wouldâve been killed by those Demons and the other trainees a moment ago," the Warrior trainee said, patting his chest with a serious tone. "Donât feel pressured. As long as we work together and I protect you, no one will be able to kill us."
"Okay, then you have to protect me well." The Priestess gave a happy smile.
"Donât worry, you can count on me." The Warrior trainee glanced up at the top of the building and joked, "I can protect you even if someone comes flying down from up there."
"Yes, IâAh!" The Priestess was about to say something when she suddenly felt her ankles tighten, followed by a chilling sensation. She looked down to see a White Bone Chain wrapped around her legs and instinctively screamed.
Just as she screamed, a vine snare materialized before her eyes.
Iâm being ambushed!
she instantly understood.
As a contestant who had passed through multiple rounds of selection, she reacted fast, quickly leaning back in an attempt to dodge the snare.
"Donât look back!" she shouted, trying to warn the Warrior in front of her.
However, her warning came too late. Hearing her shriek, the Warriorâs nerves tensed, and he subconsciously spun around to look. The Priestess leaned back, dodging the swinging snare, which then swung back toward the Warrior just as he turned. Before he could understand what was happening, the snare looped around his neck. Immediately, he felt it tighten, and his entire body was hoisted into the air.
High on the wall, the moment Fang Zhou revealed himself, the Demons on a distant rooftop all swiveled their gaze toward him. They immediately raised stones, preparing to throw them.
Fang Zhou quickly secured the vine and leaped down.
It had to be said, the Priestessâs reaction was incredibly fast. She instantly assessed the situation and didnât even think about trying to rescue the Warrior. She knew perfectly well that the Warrior could cut the vine quickly with his weapon. Furthermore, with her around, she could heal him back to full as long as he wasnât killed instantly. The one in real danger right now was herself.
Seeing the figure shrouded in gray mist jump down, she recognized him as Fang Zhou, and her heart grew even more tense. With his overwhelming lead on the point rankings as proof, Fang Zhouâs strength was undeniable.
The Priestess quickly cast one of her Purification Acceleration Skills on herself, breaking free from the Skeleton Shacklesâ restraint, and shot off like an arrow released from a bow. At the same time, she began casting a Spell to give herself a Holy Light Shield. She had seen the direction Fang Zhou was jumping from and chose to run at a ninety-degree angle to his trajectory.
A glint of surprise flashed in Fang Zhouâs eyes.
This Priestess is certainly impressive.
His plan had been to snare the Warrior and then instantly kill the Priestess. But she was far too composed. Now that he had jumped, it was no longer possible to use his Skills to kill her.
As Fang Zhou descended, a rumbling sound echoed from the rooftopsâthe sound of giant stones, thrown by the surrounding Demons, crashing down.
Fang Zhou reacted swiftly, unfurling a pair of glowing red skeletal wings from his back. This allowed him to quickly adjust his posture in mid-air to deal with the new development.
CRACK!
Just as the Priestess enveloped herself in her Holy Light Shield, Fang Zhouâs Skeleton Flying Spear struck her. The newly cast shield shattered before her stunned eyes, and the blow still dealt massive damage to her.
The Priestess stopped dead in her tracks. Although she had already overestimated Fang Zhou, she had never expected him to shatter her shield with a single strike. As a rare Priestess specializing in support, her shield could absorb twice as much damage as an ordinary one.
Her plan had been to tank one of Fang Zhouâs spears with her shield, then duck behind a large, nearby boulder. By then, the Warrior would have cut the vine, and the situation would reverse into a two-on-one fight. No matter how strong Fang Zhou was, he surely couldnât finish off two contestants with complementary Professions that quickly. If he didnât back off in time, they would all die when the Demons from the roof arrived.
We can trade our two lives for his! Plus, weâll get the Portable Concentration Meditation Array thatâs guaranteed to drop when he dies. This deal is absolutely worth it!
However, Fang Zhou didnât give her that chance.
The Priestessâs plan was a good one and would have worked against any ordinary contestant. But she had grossly underestimated Fang Zhouâs damage. One wrong step led to a cascade of errors.
To end the fight quickly, Fang Zhou took out his Undead Magic Ball and unleashed his full firepower. The moment the Priestessâs shield broke, she paused to cast an instant heal on herself, intending to roll away from the next Skeleton Flying Spear. But before she could move, the second spear slammed into her.
THWACK!
Her eyes filled with shock and indignation as the Priestess slowly collapsed to the ground. As a squishy character without a shield, she was an easy target for Fang Zhouâs precision kill.
Meanwhile, the struggling Warrior had come to his senses. He drew the one-handed sword from his waist and began hacking at the snare, finally cutting it on his third swing. However, the first thing he saw as he fell to the ground was the Priestessâs corpse.
The Warriorâs eyes turned red. He had just been boasting about protecting her, and now, in the blink of an eye, his words were thrown right back in his face.
"Get down here!" the Warrior roared at Fang Zhou, who was still floating in mid-air. He raised a shield to protect his body.
His only answer was another of Fang Zhouâs Skeleton Flying Spears. In his full-firepower mode, Fang Zhouâs casting speed was at its absolute peak. Although the Warrior blocked the first spear with his shield, he was still hit by the other two. Even though the spears Fang Zhou shot from the air didnât hit any vitals, they still left the Warrior grievously wounded.
Of course, this was only because the Warrior had excellent equipment and had activated a special skill from his Rare Profession that granted him significant damage reduction. An ordinary Warrior would have been instantly killed by one of Fang Zhouâs Skeleton Flying Spears, even if it wasnât a critical hit.
Fang Zhou adjusted his posture in the air, using the flight from his skeletal wings to effortlessly dodge the Warriorâs counterattack.
"Fang Zhou, you think I donât recognize you? If youâve got any guts, come down and fight me one-on-one! What kind of skill is floating up there in the sky?" The Warrior was on the verge of madness. Fang Zhou was circling above his head, at least thirty yards away. He couldnât even touch him.
Courting death.
As the Shield Warrior shouted his curses, another of Fang Zhouâs Skeleton Flying Spears struck his body. The Warriorâs life faded, and he collapsed to the ground, his face a mask of utter frustration.
Fang Zhou deactivated his wings and dropped to the ground, waiting in a corner for a moment. Only when the commotion from the rooftop Demons grew louder did he activate the Celestial Curtain Magic Bottle and ascend to the massive roof from the other side.
"Fang Zhou is so cruel! Judging by how viciously he ambushes people, Fang Zhou must be single! Just as youâd expect from him; he shows no mercy, not even to a delicate girl. Destined to be forever alone."
