Chapter 50 - 47: She Could Look This Beautiful, and She Was Okay With Being Ugly for So Long?

His eyes widened, and he couldn’t hide the utter shock on his face.

’What’s going on with this woman’s face?’

’How did she suddenly get so much better-looking?’

He strode over and stared intently at her from outside the window. After a few seconds, he figured it out. She had used something to cover the red birthmark, changing its appearance.

He had to admit, the change made her stunning beyond words.

Having been assigned to her for so long, this was the first time he’d discovered that this woman’s features were so delicate. Her brows, eyes, nose, and lips—every part seemed as if it were meticulously carved.

She had an oval face with a pointed chin—the face of a classic beauty. Her skin was as fair as jade, so smooth that not a single pore was visible.

’So without that ugly red spot, this woman is actually this beautiful?’

"Hey, what do you think? My artistic skills are pretty amazing, right?"

Seeing him staring dumbfounded, Jiang Yunnuan raised an eyebrow and spoke smugly, clearly very satisfied with her technique.

Si Xie nodded, surprised and curious. "It really is impressive. If you have this skill, why didn’t you use it sooner?"

’She could make herself look this good, but she was willing to be ugly for so long?’

"Too much trouble. I’m lazy!"

Jiang Yunnuan replied languidly, "Painting this thing on is even more trouble than makeup. It’s fine to do it on a whim, but doing it every day would drive me crazy."

Having said her piece, she resumed crunching on her apple, the sound sharp and crisp.

’As expected of something from the System. This apple is sweet, crisp, and so juicy. It’s delicious. More importantly, it’s packed with Energy, almost as much as a full meal.’

With every bite, she could feel the Energy flowing into her body.

Si Xie: "..."

’She’s so lazy, she might as well die from it.’

His attention was gradually drawn to the bright red thing in her hand. Hearing the crunching sounds, he found his mouth watering for some reason.

"What is that?"

He stared eagerly at the half-eaten apple, unable to stop himself from swallowing.

Jiang Yunnuan looked over at him. His bewitching, beautiful face wore such a naive expression, she couldn’t help but want to laugh.

"It’s an apple. Want some?"

’Yes, I do!’

He gulped and nodded repeatedly.

Jiang Yunnuan’s eyebrow twitched. She smiled mischievously and crooked her finger at him. "Then come a little closer and let me pet your ears."

Hearing this, Si Xie’s face turned red. The pair of fluffy, silver-white fox ears on his head twitched, making Jiang Yunnuan’s hands itch even more.

"You can’t just touch someone’s ears..."

"Oh, is that so? Well, you can’t just eat someone’s apple either!"

Jiang Yunnuan huffed. She tore her gaze away from the fox ears on his head, acting as if it was no big deal if she couldn’t touch them.

Si Xie: "..."

He agonized for a moment, then bit his lip and took a step forward. As if he’d made a monumental decision, he said, "Just one pet. No more."

’Tsk, he’s trying to bargain with me? Do I look like someone who keeps their promises?’

"Alright, deal!"

Jiang Yunnuan agreed with a grin. Without a shred of ceremony, she reached out, grabbed his fox ears, and gave them a good fluffing. They were smooth as satin in her grasp, carrying a delicate warmth. The feel was absolutely heavenly.

As for him, it was as if he’d been electrocuted. A tingling numbness spread through his whole body, and he couldn’t help but tense up.

He bit his lip, desperately trying to keep from making the same humiliating sounds he did last time. Still, shame flooded him. ’Dammit, I completely sold out the pride of a Beastman... all for a single apple.’

’Where’s my dignity?’

’Where’s my backbone?’

They had agreed on one pet, but she had already stroked them more than a dozen times. Si Xie took a deep breath, enduring the tingling sensation spreading through him, and reached up to push her hand away.

Seeing him start to struggle, Jiang Yunnuan regretfully stopped.

Then she saw him, looking for all the world like he’d been terribly bullied. His bewitching face was flushed, and his beautiful, bewitching eyes were brimming with tears as he stared at her, full of accusation.

"You promised just one pet! You went back on your word!"

Jiang Yunnuan: "..."

"Oh, I’m so sorry! It’s my fault. But your ears are just too nice to pet! Once I started, I got carried away and lost all Control. Forgive me!"

She apologized and admitted her mistake while simultaneously complimenting him. Her attitude was so impeccable that he couldn’t find fault, so Si Xie could only seize the opportunity to demand compensation.

"One apple isn’t enough. I want a lot!"

"Fine!"

Jiang Yunnuan generously agreed.

’Anyway, the batch of apples she just harvested was several hundred strong. Besides apples, she’d also gotten a lot of bananas and strawberries. Without fertilizer, she could get a new harvest every seven days.’
