Chapter 17: Unrestrained Yan Ruyu, The Real Dragon Slayer
âIâve found you!â With everyone around being captivated by Yan Ruyuâs charm, Jiang Chen stood out as the exception.
He blended into the crowd yet stood out, even with his aura hidden. Yan Ruyu, delighted upon spotting Jiang Chen, approached him with a radiant smile, moving gracefully and enchanting everyone around.
âEh, why is she coming over here? Did she recognize me? It seems unlikely; Iâve hidden my aura well!â thought Jiang Chen.
Yan Ruyu inwardly chuckled upon hearing Jiang Chenâs thoughts. Spotting him amidst the crowd was easy due to his composure. Not knowing how she heard his thoughts but aware of his awareness of her feelings, Yan Ruyu decided to be open.
âThis gentleman, I am new to Spirit Snake City and quite unfamiliar with it. Seeing you seem well-acquainted with the city, would you mind showing me around?â she asked with a shy gesture, extending her hand as if wanting Jiang Chen to lead her.
âEh, whatâs going on with Yan Ruyu? Why is she suddenly approaching me? Has she recognized who I am?â Jiang Chen was confused, having concealed his identity well.
âHumph, you hide well, but you didnât know I could hear your thoughts,â Yan Ruyu thought, amused by his surprised look.
âIâm not familiar with the area either, miss. Perhaps you should ask someone else,â Jiang Chen replied, his face stiffening.
Refused? âWhat is he thinking?â thought the onlookers. They envied Jiang Chen for receiving an invitation from Yan Ruyu and thought he would regret refusing it. If looks could kill, Jiang Chen would have been in trouble from the envious stares.
âHoly Son Jiang, stop pretending. Iâve recognized you!â Yan Ruyu telepathically communicated to Jiang Chen, seeing him refuse.
Jiang Chen was stunned. âHow did you recognize me?â he asked, puzzled by her ability to see through his disguise.
Yan Ruyu, pleased with herself, said, âItâs a secret!â She wasnât going to reveal to Jiang Chen her ability to hear his inner voice. âI suppose Holy Son Jiang wouldnât want to expose his identity, right? It would be troublesome if it got out!â
âSo what if it gets exposed, who could possibly do anything to me?â Jiang Chen said with a frivolous eyebrow and a disdainful tone. He had hidden his aura simply because he didnât want to attract attention. He just wanted to travel alone.
If his identity was really exposed, it wouldnât be a big deal. The reputation of Primordial Holy Land would protect him; hardly anyone would dare to touch him. Even if they did, they couldnât harm him. As a Holy Son, protectors were definitely necessary. If someone foolishly tried to harm him, it would be a death wish.
Yan Ruyuâs eyes flickered. It seemed true that the reputation of the Primordial Holy Land was there, and hardly anyone would dare to harm Jiang Chen.
âEven so, Holy Son wouldnât want to attract too much attention, right?â Yan Ruyu said slowly. âIf your identity gets exposed, there will be a lot of trouble!â
âAm I not attracting enough attention right now?â Jiang Chen looked at Yan Ruyu somewhat helplessly. With her around, it was difficult not to attract attention. Everyone around seemed eager to kill him.
âGiggle, you canât blame me for that!â Yan Ruyu said with a light laugh.
Now that she knew Jiang Chen was aware of her feelings, Yan Ruyu had completely let go. She was no longer as constrained as she used to be when she encountered Jiang Chen. Before, Yan Ruyu was comfortable with anyone, but she was somewhat restrained with Jiang Chen.
âMiss Yan, who is this?â Azure Dragon God Son, Cang Yun, couldnât sit still anymore. He fancied Yan Ruyu and viewed her as his own, naturally disliking her interacting with someone else. He was almost infuriated.
He wasnât as intimate with Yan Ruyu as this ordinary cultivator who had just started talking to her. If it werenât for maintaining his demeanor, he would have directly disabled Jiang Chen.
âDragon Slayer! You may call me the Dragon Slayer!â Jiang Chen smiled playfully, saying meaningfully.
As soon as these words were uttered, the atmosphere immediately tensed. It didnât matter if the name was real or fake. Even if it was fake, saying it in front of Cang Yun was like a blatant provocation. The ground around them started to crack, and the entire void boomed as if it was about to be torn apart.
As expected, Cang Yunâs face darkened, and a terrifying pressure enveloped the room. âYouâve got some nerve! Letâs see if you are worthy of that title,â he said, barely containing his rage.
âWhy are you so angry, Brother Cang Yun? Itâs just a name,â Jiang Chen said with a smile. âI havenât actually slain any dragons. Is it just a name thatâs making you lose your composure? Thatâs not a good thing. How would Miss Yan think of you if you act like this?â
Jiang Chenâs words were a moral trap. Cang Yun, being fond of Yan Ruyu and wanting to maintain his dignity, had to suppress his anger.
âOh, if you canât hold it in, itâs fine. I could just slay you and truly become the Dragon Slayer. After all, what good is a cultivator who hasnât slain a dragon?â
