âPromise me, Leon, donât let anyone else take you out before I do.â
âHmph, donât get cocky. Iâm targeting you now, and you wonât survive to see the next meeting.â
âOh really? Who was it that missed the very first meeting? Why didnât you show up, Leon? Did you not want to?â
âThat was me letting my guard down and falling for your trick, a simple role advantage, not skill.â
âFine, fine. Iâm looking forward to seeing what youâll do next.â
âStop wasting my time and move away. Youâre getting in the way of my clue hunt.â
âWhoâs in whose way? Youâre the one coming closer.â
âLike Iâd want to be near you.â
Both spoke in unison: âHmph!â
Just as they were about to go their separate waysâone taking the high road, the other a narrow pathâthe memory stones in their pockets suddenly chimed with a synchronized NPC alert:
â[The Kingâs Old Friend] and [The Royal Chef], please be advised. [The Kingâs Old Friend] and [The Royal Chef], please be advised.â
âYou have been affected by the item card [Unbreakable Seven-Day Lock of Love]. For the next six hours, you must act together and cannot be more than five meters apart.â
The couple froze, stunned.
W-what was this *Unbreakable Seven-Day Lock of Love*?
What a nauseating name!
After a moment of surprise, Leon and Rosvisser turned to look at each other.
âDid you use this card?â Leon asked.
âDo you think Iâm crazy enough to use this on us?â
âThen who has such a twisted sense of humor?â
âWhoever it is, they must think this game isnât chaotic enough.â
Rosvisser shook her head. At this point, there was no point in wondering who used the card on them. It was better to focus on the situation at hand.
âSo from now on, weâre stuck together for the next six hours. Ugh~â
Leon raised an eyebrow. âWhatâs with that sigh? Being with me is a blessing. Watch closely and learn, dear.â
Rosvisser rolled her eyes so hard they nearly reached the ceiling.
âJust thinking about being chained to you, a vain, smug jerk, for six hours makes me miserable from head to tail-tip!â
Leon (confidently): âYouâre lying.â
Rosvisser: âItâs the truth.â
Leon: âLiar.â
Rosvisser: âTruth.â
Leon: âItâs true.â
Rosvisser: âItâs a lie!â
*Clap*â
Leon clapped his hands. âSee? You admitted it yourself. You really want to be with me.â
â...â
A dragon queen left speechless!
Rosvisser stomped her foot, her tail lashing. âI donât have time for this.â
With that, she strode off down the hallway.
Leon, seeing how annoyed she was, felt a playful spark and followed her.
âHey, hey, donât go too far, darling. We canât be more than five meters apart, remember?â
...
However, what Leon and Rosvisser didnât anticipate was that being chained together wasnât the worst part. The worst partâ
Was being seen chained together!
âRosvisser, brother-in-law, your acting is impressive,â came a voice.
The couple covered their faces in unison, preparing to endure the familiar teasing of Isha.
The Red Dragon Queen stood with her arms crossed, a mischievous grin on her face.
âI mean, you two were at each otherâs throats at the meeting table, but now youâre working on tasks together. Ugh, getting force-fed dog food even in a gameâitâs rough, really rough.â
*If itâs so rough, donât hang around and torment us, sis!*
âGo do your own tasks, would you?â
âSis, actually, weâre under the effect of theââ
âWow~ Not only are you glued together, but you even use terms like âunbreakable loveâ to describe yourselves? Youâve been married for five yearsâtone down the mushiness!â
âShould we take her out?â Leon suggested.
âAgreed,â Rosvisser replied.
âHey, hey, just kidding, just kidding,â Isha said quickly, holding up her hands.
She knew full well that while her sister and brother-in-law often pretended to disdain each other, if they teamed up, they could probably speedrun the game.
Even Isha, as clever as she was, could only manage a stalemate against Leon. Add Rosvisser to the mix, and none of the other six players would stand a chance.
Unfortunately, the only reason they were together now was because of the item card someone had used on them. Cooperation between those two would only happen if absolutely necessary.
âSo, did you find any useful clues?â Isha shifted the topic.
The couple shook their heads.
âHmm... I havenât found anything either. Iâll continue with my tasks then. You two enjoy your âquality timeâ together.â
With a wave, Isha walked off.
When her footsteps faded, Leon asked, âYour sister is the [Doctor]. Do you think sheâd have no role-related advantages?â
âWhat do you mean?â Rosvisser asked.
âThink about it. Your [Chef] role lets you use in-game items to prevent players from attending meetings and likely has other abilities. As the [Doctor], your sister should have even more strategic tools at her disposal.â
Rosvisser nodded, realizing the truth. âYouâre right. And sheâs been saying she hasnât found any clues, but everyone must have completed tasks and found either information or items by now. How could she have no clues at all?â
Leonâs eyes narrowed as he mused, âYour sister... she wouldnât be the lone wolf player, would she?â
âThe lone wolf?â
âYeah, a player who isnât aligned with anyone and wins if they survive to the end.â
The fake lone wolf strategy: eliminate everyone.
The true lone wolf strategy: cast suspicion on everyone.
*Leon, brilliant!*
âHmm... you could be onto something.â
Seeing Rosvisserâs mind working, Leon prepared to press the suspicion further, but she said,
âBut it doesnât really matter. Early in the game, you canât trust anyone. Even if youâre tied to me now, Iâll still suspect you.â
Well.
Convincing Rosvisser with just a few words seemed impossible.
Leon shrugged. âWhatever. Letâs keep going with the tasks.â
The couple set off again.
About half an hour later, they completed a task.
However, the reward was a [Chef]-specific prize.
In other words, Leon had done all that work just to benefit Rosvisser.
The queen held up her prize card smugly. âWatch and learn.â
âThatâs just pure luck,â Leon muttered.
âYeah, right.â
Rosvisser didnât say more and opened the clue card. It read:
**[Recipe]**
**[Item: Mint Tea]**
**[Effect: Drinking this can remove any negative status effects]**
**[Note: One-time use only]**
Rosvisserâs eyes widened. âIf we make the mint tea, we can remove this âUnbreakable Loveâ lock.â
Leonâs eyes brightened. âThen letâs head to the kitchen.â
âRight.â
They rushed to the kitchen, only to find someone was already there.
It was Noa and Helena.
The princess and her guard.
âMom? Dad? Why are you together?â
âUh, weâre here to do a task,â Leon said while glancing at the water tank beneath the sink. That was where heâd hidden the gameâs key item, the Black Sacred Stone.
Since Leonâs main task as the lone wolf was to hide the stone and last until the gameâs end to win, it was easy to guess that Noaâs victory condition as the [Princess] involved finding it.
Right now, the key to victory was less than two meters from his eldest daughter.
Leon pulled his gaze away, maintaining his composure.
âWhat about you two? Here for a task?â Rosvisser asked.
âOh, no, weâre just wandering around, seeing if there are any tasks to do,â Noa replied.
âGot it...â
âYep. Weâll leave so you two can get on with your task,â Noa said, turning to leave with Helena.
Just then, a sound came from Noaâs memory stone:
â[Princess] and [Friend A], please be advised. [Princess] and [Friend A], please be advised.â
âYou have been affected by the item card [Unbreakable Seven-Day Lock of Love]. For the next six hours, you must act together and cannot be more than five meters apart.â
Noa blinked in surprise. âW-what is this âUnbreakable Seven-Day Lock of Loveâ...â
âFriend A? Is that one of the [Princessâs Friends]?â Helena asked.
The sistersâ task cards had indeed been [The Princessâs Friends], designated as [Friend A] and [Friend B] for differentiation.
âSis! Sis!â Moonâs voice called from the doorway.
The little moon dragon clutched her memory stone, running up to Noa and grabbing her arm with wide, tearful eyes. âSis, I-I think someone used an item on us!â
âI just heard too. This âUnbreakable Love Lock,â right?â Noa replied.
âYeah!â Moon nodded vigorously. âFor the next six hours, I can only stay with you. I wonât
be a bother, will I?â
âOf course not.â Noa pinched her sisterâs cheek, smiling fondly.
âYay~ Sis is the best~â
âDo you know who used this card on us?â
âNope! Moon has no clue!â
âWell... letâs go do some tasks then.â
âMm-hmm!â
Before leaving, Moon remembered to wave at her parents. âBye, Mom! Bye, Dad!â
Leon and Rosvisser waved back, watching the girls go.
Once they were out of earshot, Leon turned to Rosvisser. âShe totally used that card on herself, didnât she? Totally did!â
Rosvisser chuckled. âWell, thatâs how games like this should be played. Makes it fun.â
Leon scratched his nose, suddenly acting casual. âSo, once we finish making the mint tea... should we really use it to break the lock?â
The queen arched an elegant eyebrow, reading the underlying meaning in his words.
But she decided to tease him. âOf course, why wouldnât we? We donât want to waste it on such a minor effect.â
Leon panicked a little, rubbing his hands, trying to act indifferent. âWell, you see, this isnât a major negative status. If we use the mint tea now and later get hit by a worse status card, what then? The tea only works once, right?â
It all boiled down to one thing:
*I want to stay tied to you.*
âHmm... you make a valid point.â
Rosvisser did want to spend more time with her husband, especially since this was a family-bonding game. When else would they get this chance?
Their true feelings were clear without needing further analysis.
They were just waiting for the right moment to drop their pretenses.
With their decision made, Rosvisser followed the recipe to make the mint tea, then handed it to Leon.
âFor me?â Leon asked, surprised.
âYes. Youâre the one who likes wandering around. If you accidentally trigger a negative status, the mint tea can save you.â
âOh, protective, are we, Your Majesty?â
âDonât push it. If you donât want it, give it back.â
âIâll take it! Why wouldnât I?â
Rosvisser gave him an exasperated smile. âAlright, hurry up and start the next task.â
âYes, letâs go!â
