Night had fallen on the Imperial dance hall.
Rosvisser stood alone on the balcony, gazing out into the evening darkness. Her face, cool and expressionless as always, carried a faint trace of melancholy.
Before long, footsteps sounded behind her.
Steady and firmâshe didnât even need to look back to know who it was.
âYou were acting a little strange today, Rosvisser.â
Leon came up beside her, eyes full of concern.
âI know that thing about the doctor was fake. You just wanted to declare your place and our family in front of others. But that was just a chance encounter. Between me and Elusaânothing ever happened. I thoughtââ
âYou thought Iâd be like I was in your memory world, †NĐŸvĐ”â ight †(Read more on our source) completely unfazed by something like this?â
Rosvisser let out a soft hum, lowering her gaze and pressing one hand gently to her cheek. Silvery strands of hair fell over her face, making her look tired and wistful.
âTo be honest, at first⊠I thought Iâd be the one to forget it.
But then I saw Moon mistake her for me. I saw the joy in Elusaâs eyes when she saw you again after all those years. And I realized⊠sheâs never married.
Thatâs when something uncontrollable began to stir in my heartâthis jealousy that came out of nowhere.
That concrete sense of threat and unease⊠itâs something no illusion could ever compare to.â
The more she spoke, the softer her voice grew. The lower her head dipped.
âI understand, Leon⊠we both understand everything.
I shouldnât have declared my status so blatantly in front of an old friend.
But I couldnât help it⊠I donât know what came over meâŠâ
I just wanted⊠I just wanted to make sure, in that moment, how much I meant to you. To know that nothing from outside could ever make you leave meâŠ
Iâm sorââ
Before that âsorryâ could even leave her lips, she was already pulled tightly into the manâs embrace.
His chest was still as firm and steady as always. It had always been her safest harbor whenever she was exhausted.
She buried her face into Leonâs chest.
The impulse in her dragon blood clashed with the sensitivity sheâd cultivated as she grew. The heat born of that collision practically consumed her emotions.
âI understand, Rosvisser.â
Leon gently stroked her hair, patting her back like coaxing a grown-up little girl.
âItâs my fault. Iâve always expected you to handle everything calmly and rationally. Iâm sorry.â
âI shouldâve known you really cared about Elusa. That those werenât just jokes or harmless bickering. You cared deeply⊠and Iâm sorry. I shouldâve seen that sooner.â
Before Leon, Rosvisser had never experienced any romantic feelings.
They had rushed into marriage, rushed into having children, rushed into love and trust.
True, their love as husband and wife was pureâuntouchable by any outside force.
But when faced with something unexpected, Rosvisser couldnât help but falter.
To most people with past relationship experience, Elusa wouldnât have been a big deal.
But to Rosvisser, Elusa was that one speck of ink on Leonâs otherwise blank emotional canvas.
Even if that speck was lightâso light it couldnât be seen unless placed under sunlightâRosvisser could spot it on the page in an instant.
The moment she saw the real Elusa, the moment she confirmed sheâd never married, Rosvisser panickedâlost control of her heart.
Like a frightened kitten, lashing out even when someone reached out a comforting hand.
But when the world grew quiet again, she would reflect. And regret.
Just like now.
Thankfully, she had a husband who always thought of her firstâa husband who truly cared about her feelings.
âLeonâŠâ
âAll these years. After everything thatâs happened. When have I ever truly left you?â
Leon said, lightly grasping Rosvisserâs shoulders, and gently pushed her back from his chest.
Their eyes met. He gazed into those slightly pitiful silver eyes, cupped her cheeks with care.
âRosvisser, no matter how the world changes, no matter what people or events we encounter in the future, I want you to always remember...
I will always love you. Forever.
Because you are⊠my everything.â
If it werenât for the poor soundproofing in this place, someone mightâve started crying tiny little pearls on the spot.
Naturally, Leon considered Her Majestyâs pride. He pulled her back into his arms before finishing that sentence.
So she could secretly wipe her tears.
After a moment of silence, Rosvisser sniffled softly.
âIâm okay now.â
âYou cried it all out?â
âI didnât cry.â
And right on cueâanother sniffle.
Leon said nothing, just smiled and gently took her hand again.
âMm, so now youâre sure of your place in my heart?â
âMmâŠâ
After a pause, Rosvisser asked again,
âDo you think I was being annoying⊠or childish today?â
âNot at all. No matter how many times you ask, Rosvisser, my answer will always be the same.â
Leon added:
âAnd Iâve told you beforeâI like seeing you act a little childish and emotional now and then. It makes you feel more real.â
Rosvisser couldnât help but smile faintly. Still holding Leonâs hand, she shyly shifted her arm in close to her bodyâbut she couldnât let her words sound too excited.
âOh~ got it.â
Leon smiled with narrowed eyes, then added,
âBut from an objective standpoint, your offensive pressure today was⊠a bit high. And it hit me with a few debuffs too.â
Rosvisser opened her eyes. âDebuffs? What do you mean?â
âMoon clung to me for three hours, nonstop asking if weâre going to give her a new sister again.â
Rosvisser pressed her lips together in a light laugh. âSo how did you explain it?â
âI said the doctor misdiagnosed youâthat youâd just been eating too much and gained some weightââ
âYou said Iâm fat!â
â...It just slipped out, just slipped out!â
Rosvisser laughed and swatted with her tail. Leon dodged, laughing.
After a bit of playful chaos, Rosvisser turned serious again.
âMm⊠youâre right. I really did overreact today⊠too cold-headed. Iâm debating whether I should go apologize to Elusa.â
âSheâs not the petty type. You donât need to apologizeâjust talk it out calmly next time.â
Leon added.
Hearing that, Rosvisser raised a browâand immediately began launching a verbal barrage like a rapid-fire cannon:
âNot the petty type?
Ohhh~ and here I thought she was just some old classmate, but turns out you know her really well, huh~
âNot the petty typeâ~ so youâre saying I am petty, huh?
How exactly am I petty? Huh? Tell me! Where am I petty?!â
ââŠâŠâ
She went on and on, chirping nonstop.
But Leon wasnât the least bit annoyed.
He just smiled as he watched his usually cool and noble queenly wife get all jealous, pouty, and irrational for his sake.
You couldnât just marry anyone, after all~

âLeon, Lady Melkveyâwhat brings you here?â
The next morning, Leon and Rosvisser arrived at Elusaâs home with a box of fresh pastries and a bouquet of flowers.
With help from the Lionheart Order, finding her address hadnât been difficult.
The pastries were personally made by Rosvisser that morning, and the flowers had been carefully chosen by her as well.
Leon had said there was no need for a formal apology, but Rosvisser still wanted to make up for her outburst in her own way.
Otherwise she wouldnât be able to let it go.
âYouâre one of the few friends Leon has in the Empire. We didnât get to prepare anything properly yesterday, so we came by today with a little gift.â
Elusa looked flattered. âThatâs far too kind, Lady Melkvey. Please, come in.â
She welcomed the couple inside.
The pastries and flowers were placed on the coffee table in the living room.
Elusa poured two cups of coffee for them.
âIâm not sure if itâs to your taste⊠Dragons drink coffee, right?â
Leon nodded. âThey do.â
This was his first time in Elusaâs home.
From the shoes and coats at the entrance, it was clear she lived alone.
The house wasnât very big, but it was cozy, neat, and warmly organized.
Elusa sat on another sofa and asked,
âLady Melkvey, are you pregnant? Isnât it risky to be up this early?â
âAh~ no, no⊠it was a misdiagnosis. Yes, a misdiagnosis.â
âMisdiagnosis?â
Rosvisser scratched her temple and gave a sheepish smile. âMm. Iâve just⊠been eating a bit much latelyâŠâ
Damn that bastard. His excuse may have been annoying, but it worked.
âOh~ I see.â
Elusa was a sharp woman. She could tell this early-morning visit with pastries and flowers was clearly to make up for yesterday.
She truly didnât hold a grudge about it. In fact, when she got home, she realized sheâd probably overreacted a bit too when seeing Leon again.
So she couldnât really blame his wife for asserting her position.
If sheâd never heard of Rosvisser before, Elusa now had a pretty clear impression of Leonâs dragon queen.
Very gentle. Quiet-spoken. But always by Leonâs sideâtruly a model wife.
âBy the way, after graduation, you didnât seem to join the Dragon Military. Did you take another job?â
The conversation shifted to work, and Elusa answered without hesitation:
âMm. I currently work with the Empireâs archaeology team.â
âArchaeology, huh⊠sounds impressive.â
Elusa smiled, tucked a lock of hair behind her ear, and modestly said:
âNot that impressive reallyâjust digging holes, piecing bones together, taking photos, that sort of thing. Oh, actually, I have some pictures from a recent project here. Want to see?â
âSure, thanks.â
Elusa pulled a stack of photos from her work bag and placed them on the table.
âItâs from a forest just outside the capital. We found a really interesting old tree thereâand underneath it, what looks like an entrance leading somewhere.â
Leon picked up the photos and looked through them with Rosvisser.
Indeedâbeneath a towering ancient tree, there seemed to be some kind of hidden passage.
âIf youâre interested, I can tell you moreâah, though it might get a little dull. Thatâs just how this work is.â
Leon nodded. âMm, go ahead. Weâre curious about this kind of thing too.â
âAlright.â
Elusa began:
âYou saw the entrance under the tree, right? Based on our archaeology teamâs analysis, the damage to the underground passage and the surrounding vegetation show a clear time discrepancy.
In other words, thirty years ago, someone excavated this hidden tunnel under the ancient tree.
And figuring out where that tunnel leadsâthatâs our next goal.â
