Rosvisser quickly found the few who had gotten lost.
The whole family entered the amusement park together in orderly fashion.
There were plenty of attractions hereâthrilling and exciting ones, smooth and relaxing ones, basically everything you could hope for.
Even the children ended up trying rides theyâd never seen before, not even in Sky City.
The married couple, however, werenât particularly interested in any of it, so Cecilia was the one accompanying the kids the whole time.
Next to the spinning teacup ride, Leon and Rosvisser sat on a bench, one on either side, watching the dizzy Moon and Cecilia inside the cup and trying their best not to laugh.
âMaybe we should start removing anything that spins from our ride listâotherwise itâs just too much torture for the directionally challenged,â Leon said.
âSeems like this base guideâs ratings are actually kind of accurate,â Rosvisser said with a teasing smile, agreeing with him.
âYou're right.â
As the two chatted, a few young people walked up to them.
âHi, excuse me, are you Leon? Leon Casmod, the great hero who defeated the Doomsday Legion?â
One of the boys asked excitedly, barely able to contain his delight, his eyes filled with admiration as he looked at Leon.
âAh, yes, thatâs me. Is something the matter?â
âIt really is you! Weâre all your fans, Mr. Leonâcould we get your autograph?â
As soon as the words left his mouth, the group of boys all whipped out pens and paper, thrusting them toward Leon before he could even react.
Leon had been through plenty of these autograph moments on outings. Whether it was in the Rain Kingdom, in dragon territory as a hero of the dragons, or in the Spear Kingdom and Kahn, the reaction was always similar if not even more intense.
So this sort of thing didnât surprise Leon anymore.
He nodded calmly and took the pen and paper. âNo problem.â
âAwesome, thank you, Mr. Leon!â
âMr. Leon, how did you get to be so strong?â
Leon lifted his head and looked at the boys, then said, deadpan,
âRead more books, read more newspapers, eat less junk food, and get more sleep.â
âCome on, Mr. Leon, be serious,â a girl nearby chimed in.
Leon chuckled, lowering his head to keep signing as he said,
âBefore you can become strong, you have to find someoneâor somethingâworth protecting with everything you have. That way, youâll push yourself to keep getting stronger, and in the end, youâll be like me. Maybe even surpass me.â
With that, he handed the autographed cards back to the group.
The girl whoâd spoken earlier carefully put away the signed card, then asked,
âThen, Mr. Leon, do you have someoneâor somethingâworth protecting with everything you have?â
This time, Leon didnât answer right away. He gently reached out and took Rosvisserâs hand, interlocking their fingers, giving them a little lift. Then he smiled and said,
âSheâs the one Iâd protect with everything I have.â
Rosvisser had thought it would be just another ordinary afternoon. That was, until the cheers of the young people rose and fell, until more and more people started flocking toward them, until they looked at her with reverent eyes.
That was when she realized: so long as she was spending time with Leon, nothing would ever be ordinary. Even in the human realm, even far from Silver Dragon territory, Leon would still, right in front of everyone, openly and proudly declare her to be his wife. And take pride in it.
Rosvisser felt that in the three hundred-plus years of her life, the two best decisions she had ever made were:
First, not letting her father marry her off to someone else back then;
Second, choosing to let go of the hatred between their races, and trying to understand this man.
Leon said she was âthe one worth protecting with everything he hadâ;
But for Rosvisser, wasnât Leon that person for her too?
A love that makes so many people envious has to be reckless and mutual.
The little commotion between the couple /N_o_v_e_l_i_g_h_t/ naturally caught the attention of the people spinning in the teacups.
âWhoa~ Why do Mom and Dad get mobbed no matter where they go?â Moon said in amazement.
âLooks like lots of people are jealous of my daughter and son-in-lawâs relationship~â Cecilia said proudly.
Meanwhile, Aurora was squinting suspiciously at the crowd gathering around.
âSomethingâs not rightâŠâ the pink-haired girl muttered.
Noa raised a brow, testing the waters. âWhatâs not right?â
âIn our dragon clanâs Sky City, Mom and Dad get swarmed, have their pictures taken, and sign autographs because Dadâs a dragon hero,â
Aurora pouted. âBut this is the human Empire. These people shouldnât have any reason to be chasing after my dad like some kind of celebrity...
Big Sis, donât you think so?â
Noa paused for a second, then smiled. âAh, well⊠Maybe Dad just has a face like a movie star?â
âHe told me yesterday he has an ordinary face.â
After a short pause, Aurora suddenly seemed to think of something. âOh right! That statue in the Imperial Plaza⊠the face looked just like Dadâs.â
ââŠSo what youâre saying is⊠those people mistook Dad for the guy from the statue?â
âI guess soâŠâ
The teacups kept spinning, soon rotating Aurora away from the angle where she could see them.
Still, she couldnât shake the feeling that something was offâŠ
It was like Dad was hiding somethingâbut not completely hiding it, just leaking bits and pieces from time to time.
âWhatâs really going on hereâŠâ
âŠ
That night, after dinner, Leon said he wanted to check in on the Lionheart Order.
Rosvisser didnât really want to go, but also didnât want to risk letting Cecilia take the girls aloneâher directional sense was just too catastrophically bad, and she might accidentally lead the daughters astray.
So Rosvisser brought Cecilia and the girls back to the inn, and Leon headed off to the Lionheart Order alone.
After Kantâs fall, the former imperial palace had been converted into the Orderâs base.
Of course, it wasnât anywhere near as luxurious and extravagant as the old royal palaceâit just met the Lionheart Orderâs needs for regular training, administration, and intel handling.
On duty tonight was Rebecca.
âWith your experience and skills, youâre basically second-in-command of the Order. Why are you still on night shifts?â
In the vast meeting hall of the Lionheart Order, Leon and Rebecca sat across from each other.
The girl was slouched in her chair, legs propped up on the edge of the table; the table itself was covered with snacks she liked.
Rebecca munched on a chip, laced her fingers behind her head, and said leisurely,
âSame as you, CaptainâI donât like sitting up on a pedestal.
Iâd rather be on the front lines, doing real work.â
Leon chuckled and glanced at the table full of snacks.
âArenât you a little old to still be eating kiddie food like this?â
âA woman is always eighteen, Captain.â
âSays who?â
âWhat, you saying thatâs wrong?â
âYour sister-in-lawâs version is: âA mother dragon is always a hundred and eighty.ââ
Rebecca rolled her eyes. She popped another chip in her mouth,
âIt was Martin who bought them for me. He was gonna keep me company on the shift, but halfway through he suddenly had to go handle some stuff. Heâs not your tagalong anymore, you knowâheâs a busy man now~â
Rebecca sighed and stared up at the ceiling with her big green eyes, spacing out.
âSighâ, this is the downside of being in a high position. You end up having to handle every little fart of a problem yourself.â
âYouâre complaining, Rebecca.â
âIâm not.â
âYou are.â
âI! AM! NOT!!â
The barbecue-flavored chips still lingering in her mouth, Rebecca gave a couple more stubborn replies, then sniffled.
âFine, I am complaining. What the hellâs so important that he had to rush off instead of seeing me?
Heâs supposed to be confessing to me in less than a week, too, damn it.â
Leon gave a low chuckle and started eating the snacks on the table with her.
âDid Nacho tell you how Martin plans to confess?â
Rebecca shook her head. âNo, but he better not try that whole flowers-and-candles bullshit. If he does, I might just dump him on the spot.â
Leon blinked. âFlowers and candles are⊠that lame?â
âTheyâre so outdated, Captain! Donât tell me thatâs how you proposed to Sis-in-law?â
ââŠThat was the plan, but now that you mention it, I might need to reconsider,â Leon said seriously.
âHa! You straight guys are hopeless.â
They kept chatting while Rebecca polished off an entire bag of chips, then opened a bag of pistachios and started cracking them open one by one.
âAnyway, Captain, any leads on that Thunder Spirit Core youâre looking for?â
âYeah. Tomorrow, Iâm planning to go with the Redmane Sand archaeology team to a place that might have some clues.â
âRedmane Sand archaeology team?â
Rebecca suddenly sat up, her eyes flickering like she had something to say but didnât.
âYeah, what about it?â
Leon thought she was worried Rosvisser might get jealous, so he added,
âYour sister-in-lawâs coming with us too.â
âNo no, thatâs not it.â
Rebecca dropped her lazy posture and looked at Leon seriously.
âI heard that the leader of Elusa-senpaiâs archaeology team is a suuuuper rigid old fossil. You better watch your mouth when you get there, Captain.â
