My stomach growled.
I looked at the security personnel seated across from me as he stared at me from behind the table, the two of us being the only people inside this interrogation room.
Iām more surprised by the fact that they even have an interrogation room to be honest.
The guard narrowed his eyes at me, "So... Youāre telling me... That you were attacked by them first... And you beat up the four of them... By yourself?"
I raised an eyebrow, "Yes? How many times do you want me to say it? If you donāt believe me, just check your security cameras? Iām sure you have some cameras inside the mess hall, right?"
"Perhaps..."
"I mean... If you need it, I also have my own personal terminal that recorded the interaction if you want to watch it?"
The guard hummed but said nothing.
I let out a sigh, "How long do you need me to stay here? Itās been an hour hasnāt it? Itās already past lunch time."
The guard hummed again, not saying anything else as he brought up his personal terminal to tap on it.
I leaned back on the chair, wondering what my girls might be doing now.
I already sent them a message earlier to tell them what happened so they know about the fight and the fact that I was currently being questioned by the guards.
Seeing that they hadnāt called me or messaged me about it, they should already be aware of this.
I watched the guard in front of me continue to fiddle with his personal terminal silently, wondering what he was doing with it when he finally put it away to stare at me.
"Youāre a new employee... Literally on the first day of the job... And you get into a fight? This is not looking good for you."
"Did you miss the part where they were the ones who started it?"
"That doesnāt matter. They are your seniors, youāre supposed to respect them, not get into altercations with them. Have you not worked a day in your life? Is this not something that should be common sense to you? If your seniors have a problem with you, just bow your head and apologise and there wonāt be any problems."
I frowned at the guard in front of me, "I thought this company ran on a merit basis... Not a seniority basis?"
"Youāre just a new employee, what merit are you even talking about? Everyone in this company has more merits than you do at this point. Maybe you could say something like that after working for five years, not a single day."
I dunno man... Iām pretty sure I just showed all your test pilots that Iām a better pilot than they were... And Iām also quite sure that I gave your research and engineering team way more data than they have...
But I guess a guard like this guy wouldnāt know about it.
What Iām confused about is why this guyās even acting like this to begin with...
It almost feels like this guy is covering for them for some reason...
I tilted my head, "So whatās going to happen to me?"
He tapped on his personal terminal again, "Iāll have to submit a report to your team lead and youāll most likely receive a punishment for this. We donāt condone violence between staff members after all."
I crossed my arms, "What about those colleagues who started the fight with me?"
He scowled, as though he was annoyed that I even asked such a question, "Isnāt it obvious? The entire fault lies with you and only you. Why should they be punished?"
Really? Heās going to just say that out loud? Heās not even afraid to just show his blatant favouritism?
I pretended to think, "Hmm... I see... Hypothetically speaking... If I wanted to make a complaint about someone... How would I go about it?"
He frowned, "Why would you even need to know?"
"Just for future references, you know? In case I need to make a complaint about someone. Like if they were showing blatant favouritism and being unfair or something, you know?"
I think itās pretty obvious that the person I wanted to complain about was him and he looked hesitant in answering my question since he obviously did not want to be on the receiving end of consequences.
He tried to brush me off with a wave of his hand, "That is not what weāre talking about right now. In fact, I would worry more about you still keeping this job after this. Do you even realise how much trouble youāre in right now?"
"Hmm? I dunno? I suppose if you really want an answer from me... I guess Iām not in trouble at all?"
He furrowed his brows and looked like he was just about to berate me when the sounds of muffled shouting came from outside the door.
Both of us turned to look at the door and the muffled sounds got closer and closer, eventually stopping right outside the door.
More shouting came from outside before a loud thump could be heard and the shouting was silenced.
We watched as the door slowly slid open and I found all of my girls standing at the doorway, looking like they were prepared for a battle.
I waved at them, "Oh hi girls! Err... Heās not done with the questioning yet actually."
The guard slammed his desk with a fist, "What do you think youāre doing?! How dare you?!"
Amber pointed a finger at the guard, "This guy is dating the girl that you slapped, Tera. Thatās why he is trying to make things difficult for you."
Oh... I should have seen that coming I guess?
I mean... I would have thought that those two were dating one of the three male pilots I beat up instead but I guess they just happened to share the same sentiment as them?
The guard visibly panicked a little before he calmed down, "H... Ha... So... So what? Iām doing everything fairly! Thereās nothing wrong with what Iāve done!"
Amber tilted her head, her eyes looking at the guard with a dead look in them, "Really? I suppose there shouldnāt be a problem if we were to call in an auditor to check if what youāve done is acceptable, right? Maybe we can let them decide instead?"
Now he was quite obviously panicking as he waved his hands in front of him, "No... No need! Thereās no need for that! I... Iām just... Well... Ahem... Iām still trying to get to the bottom of this! So I have not made my judgement yet!"
"Oh really? In that case, please let us listen in on how youāre going to conduct your investigation."
"Wha... What? That is not appropriate at all! Iām investigating this privately! Outsiders should just stay out!!"
"Oh... But weāre not outsiders anymore, I believe."
Amber stepped aside and Yumiko came in while carrying two unconscious guards in her hands.
She then threw them into the room casually, letting them both fall onto the ground with a loud thump.
The guard looked at them in horror, "Mark?! Brandon?!"
"Oh donāt worry, we didnāt kill them... Yet. But Iām just saying that if you and your groupies try anything with us just because weāre ānewā... It would not stop at incapacitation."
"You dare attack a security personnel?! Do you know what--"
Amber leapt over towards him before he could even finish his words, her knee slamming into his chest and sending him crashing into the back wall.
I winced when I realised that his chest armour had caved in and he probably had a broken rib or two.
Amber took a step back and glared at him, "Yeah... I dare. What are you going to do about it? Are you going to tell someone about us?"
Err... Girls? I mean... We are still employees here, right? Iām pretty sure we canāt just do whatever we want here...
This is the Inner Colonies after all... Right?
The guard groaned, "You... You really dare..."
She went up to grab him by the head and slammed him against the wall, prompting me to reach out my hand to stop her.
But another hand grabbed onto my wrist and I turned to see Mara standing beside me, my doctor shaking her head.
Amber smirked at him, "Consider this a warning. We will give you a chance to deal with this incident properly. If we donāt find how you dealt with this satisfactory, then you canāt blame us for what we will do to you afterwards."
Without waiting for him to answer, she threw him down on the ground before giving him another kick in his abdomen.
The guard let out a pained groan and curled up into a ball on the ground pitifully.
Amber then skipped over to me to hold my arm, "You havenāt eaten yet, right, Tera?! Letās go eat!"
...
Girls... Are you really sure this is alright? Are we going to get sued for this?
