Li Jing didnât feel particularly moved by Dai Hongâs promise.
Dai Hong quite appreciated him and thought highly of him.
However, everything should be kept separate.
He didnât directly apply for the patrol officersâ test, firstly because he didnât have an academic qualification, and secondly, because the knowledge required for the patrol officersâ examination was too complex to understand in a short time.
He chose to become an assistant inspector as a transition, to gain some experience.
The legal tests were unavoidable.
However, the lack of academic qualifications could be solved by gaining experience.
Doing a good job didnât directly link with progressing in the system. Essentially, it was all about work experience.
When he stepped into the Three Realm and passed the patrol officerâs written examination, he would naturally become a patrol officer, and start directly from being a second level patrol officer.
When it came to choosing a department, he would certainly go to Chen Yuranâs Security Department.
In terms of salary, the Major Crime Unit was doubtlessly one of the top options within the patrol system.
The issue was that this unit only moved when faced with significant evil crimes and didnât deal with other matters.
Li Jing wanted to be a patrol officer because he wanted to be on the front lines, dealing more with monster incidents.
Typically, the Security Department handled such matters.
For it to get to the level of the Major Crime Unit, the situation would have to escalate to a certain extent.
Unless a few hundred people died, it wouldnât be connected with the Major Crime Unit.
Li Jing didnât react much, but when Lu Yangcheng and Yi Xiuzhu got the promise, both of their faces changed.
Both of them were in a similar situation to Li Jing.
Without the qualifications to directly apply for the patrol officersâ test, they could only start as assistant inspectors to gain experience.
One was in the early Second Realm, and the other was in the middle of the Second Realm.
The Three Realm was a far-off dream for both of them.
But considering their talents and resources, as long as they were willing to invest time and energy into their training, stepping into the Third Realm was only a matter of time.
Once they passed the patrol officersâ test, they could immediately join the Major Crime Unit Six Team. It could be said they were ahead from the very beginning.
It wasnât easy to join the Major Crime Unit; one had to pass through strict internal selection and meet the criteria to possibly get chosen. How many on-duty patrol officers were striving to join the Major Crime Unit but were not favored?
Dai Hong observed the varying expressions of the three, then glanced at Li Jing.
Setting aside his deep obsession with spiritual attacks.
As the leader of the Major Crime Unit Six Team, Dai Hong was skilled in handling cases and was also quite cunning in his dealings with people.
With just one look, he could see that Li Jing didnât have much interest in his Major Crime Unit Six Team.
Everyone had their own ambitions, which was understandable.
Dai Hong wouldnât insist.
The problem was that of all the people present, he favored Li Jing the most. However, Li Jing didnât even give him a proper response, not even for the sake of saving face.
Dai Hong lightly coughed, then motioned the three to come closer.
"You three sitting so far away makes conversation inconvenient. Come over."
Upon hearing this, Li Jing and the others stood up.
Once the three of them were nearby, Dai Hong took out two communication earpieces and handed them to Lu Yangcheng and Yi Xiuzhu.
"These are the Major Crime Unit Six Teamâs internal communication earpieces. You two keep them for easy communication."
Then, he took out a tablet and handed it to Li Jing.
"This tablet has access to the patrol officerâs database. Donât lose it and remember to return it to me when youâre done."
Li Jing accepted the tablet and asked:
"The mission for the three of us is...?"
"Assuming that our summary of the case was correct, that group of people made a strange breakthrough into the Second Realm by being exposed to forbidden goods. However, without concrete evidence and their cooperation, we have no right to intervene."
Dai Hong explained, narrowing his eyes.
"You will attempt to contact these âguinea pigsâ in the guise of ordinary people, try to gain their trust, and figure out their source of forbidden goods. People are inherently selfish, and some might have become channels for selling unknown forbidden goods, or even joined the Evil Cultivators. If you come across that, donât bother them, but try to secure a sample of the forbidden goods to bring back."
Then, he added:
"Ordinary patrol officers might not be able to handle this. The people under me are used to leveraging their authority to investigate major crimes and could hardly shake off their personal habits in day-to-day life. Itâs easy for them to disguise themselves as ordinary people, but when dealing with sensitive groups, their nature is easily exposed. You three just became assistant inspectors and donât have such issues and have decent strength, making you the perfect candidates for this task."
"Understood."
Li Jing replied.
Lu Yangcheng and Yi Xiuzhu on the side also nodded one after the other.
"Figure out the approach yourselves. I canât provide much guidance. These âguinea pigsâ are all very sensitive due to their guilty consciences. Donât get impatient during the process, be cautious and prepare for a prolonged fight,"
Dai Hong continued.
"People who have been in contact with forbidden goods wonât just be limited to the seventeen who went to the First Hospital. Some may have gone to other hospitals, and some may not have gone to hospitals at all. You donât need to worry about that. The Intelligence Department and other departments are investigating. I will inform you if there are any new findings. Also, if you have an opportunity, bring back some hair, flaked skin, or personal items of the relevant people. The Forensics Department has gotten their blood samples from the First Hospital, but thatâs far from enough."
After giving a series of instructions, Dai Hong sighed.
"Figure out the rest yourselves. I need to compile a report for the chief."
With that, he left the meeting room in a hurry.
Watching Dai Hong leave, Li Jing worked the tablet in his hand to pull up the information on the seventeen targets, and then looked at Lu Yangcheng and Yi Xiuzhu.
"Do either of you have any ideas on how to contact these seventeen people?"
Yi Xiuzhu didnât say anything, looking at the list with a thoughtful expression.
Lu Yangcheng, after carefully reading through the list, spoke up.
"I do have an idea, but I donât know if it will work."
"How so?"
Li Jing tilted his head.
"Everyone knows the dangers of forbidden goods. Anyone with a brain wouldnât use them."
Lu Yangcheng opined and then continued to elaborate.
"These people risked the danger and used forbidden goods. They were probably not tricked into using it. I suspect that they used these because they were either cornered by life circumstances or not satisfied being ordinary. They specifically went to the hospital for a checkup, probably not just to confirm if theyâve broken through to the Second Realm, but also to ensure that thereâs nothing wrong with their bodies. Before going to the hospital, they must have used common methods to test themselves."
While saying this, a proud smile appeared on his face.
"Consumer devices are my familyâs main business, including health monitoring devices which include hundreds of different types. Thereâs a chance that some of these people might be our clients."
Li Jing raised his eyebrows at this.
"Can you get your companyâs client information?"
"I havenât yet inherited the business. How could I just take what I want?"
Lu Yangcheng shrugged and replied,
"I can only ask someone to check the company database."
No sooner had he finished speaking, then Yi Xiuzhu interjected.
"Can you ensure the person youâre asking can be trusted and wonât leak information?"
"Donât worry! The person Iâm finding is definitely a trustworthy one. Plus, I donât need to explain the specifics, do I?"
Lu Yangcheng responded, pulling out his phone to open the Immortal Message app. He input the names of the seventeen people from the list and even made up more than ten nonexistent names to send to a friend.
Li Jing couldnât help but give him a strange look when he saw him creating other fictitious names,
Lu Yangcheng raised his head after sending the Immortal Message.
"Thatâs it. Letâs wait a moment. It wonât take them long to reply."
Saying so, he looked at Li Jing, who was studying him.
"Heavenly King, I have a question for you."
?
Li Jing.
"I noticed you and Inspector Chen seemed pretty familiar back at the seafood market."
Lu Yangcheng, his face full of curiosity, went on to say:
"Just now, you two also arrived together. It isnât just a simple coincidence of running into each other on the way, is it? Whatâs... between you two?"
