Chapter 137: 012: Rise to Fame
âLynch, you coward, come down here and face your death!â Adam tilted his head arrogantly, drawing his sword and pointing at Lynch in the stands.
In an instant, every apprentice in the venue turned simultaneously to look at Lynch.
âLynch? Whoâs that? Why does the name sound kind of familiar?â
âThe winner of the War Feather, the rumored Shadow Sword!â
âAh? So itâs him!â
The whispers of chatter immediately rose and fell throughout the crowd.
Even the two Judges sitting across the way shifted their attention to this scene.
Reo said, âThis is the apprentice who escorted Calvinâs niece back to the Shadow Land? If the investigation report and Calvinâs niece werenât lying, then this is quite an exceptional young man.â
Upon returning to the Tower, an investigation into their journey was, of course, unavoidable. Lynch only faced a brief questioning, but Avery underwent a much more serious and detailed inquiry.
Avery was required to compile a report, detailing everything that transpired from the incident at Ghost Island to their return to the Tower.
Aside from omitting a few things that werenât suitable for documentation, Avery painstakingly recorded everything else, especially the multiple life-and-death battlesâshe missed no detail at all.
From the Blood Origin Cult at Ghost Island, the breakout at Gray Town, the Undead Castle of William Heim, to the two final battles in the Forest of the Dead⊠all of these events were undeniably led by Lynch himself. It was through his solo efforts that they managed to avert disaster and return safely to the Tower.
These incidents were meticulously documented by Avery and, unsurprisingly, created quite a stir when the report was submitted.
An apprentice who had only recently progressed to a mid-level rank managed to slay the Ausen Giant Python, eliminate William Heim, and ultimately confront and defeat an entire squad led by a high-level apprenticeâŠ
Such a brilliant record could only be described as extraordinary.
When Averyâs report was first submitted, the wizard responsible for receiving it even thought she was spouting nonsense out of spite. Only when dispatched wizards verified the authenticity of the report did they have no choice but to believe it.
Shock!
The wizards who reviewed the report could only describe their feelings with that word. It was truly hard to comprehend how someone who had only just advanced to mid-level could achieve all this.
Especially considering it was someone who had only been in the Wizard World a few yearsâa Muggle with no familial backing, no guidance or nurturing from a powerful Wizard Family, just an ordinary Muggle!
Thanks to Averyâs intentional push, the report eventually made its way upward and was placed on the desks of the Judges. Though it wasnât significant enough to prompt a dedicated meeting, the Judges had all read the report and were aware of what had transpired during their journey.
Codinos looked at Lynch below with great interest: âHighly specialized in multi-element systems, including Summoning, Body Refinement, Dead Spirit magic. Rumor has it heâs also studied Magic Potions and Alchemy, covering nearly all magical disciplines.â
âWho was the last person that was this audacious?â
Reo added, âLetâs see whether Calvinâs niece was exaggerating.â
Meanwhile, in the stands.
Lynch twitched his mouth slightly.
That guyâŠ
Adamâs unexpected display had truly caught him off guard.
After hesitating briefly, he rose from his seat, walked toward the edge of the stands, and then jumped down.
He hadnât joined the competition purely to avoid trouble, having no particular interest in vying for the championship title or the Tower Inner Apprentice slot.
But if it was simply for the sake of a friendly duel, he had no objectionsâin fact, it piqued his curiosity.
Stepping into the dueling arena, Lynch first bowed to the presiding wizard, Bruce, and courteously asked, âWould our recklessness inconvenience you?â
Bruce replied with a friendly smile, âNot at all.â
At this moment, Lynch was still oblivious to the fact that, because of that report, his name had practically become widespread among the Towerâs wizards. Discussions about him in recent days rivaled even the apprentice rumors surrounding the âShadow Sword.â
Bruce, himself intrigued, wondered whether Lynch matched the rumors.
He encouraged, âGo ahead, the champion has that privilege.â
If thatâs the case, there was nothing more to say.
Lynch made a swift motion with his right hand, calling forth a short, compact Short Magic Wand that he gripped tightly. He then walked to face Adam.
Adam raised an eyebrow and snorted, âWhereâs your Cross Sword? Are you looking down on me?â
Lynch chuckled mockingly, âGlad you at least recognize your own insignificance.â
Adam sneered, âWhen you canât stand anymore, I hope your mouth remains as tough as your bones.â
âClang!â
The copper gong was struck again, and the battle immediately commenced.
âWhoosh, whoosh!â
The sound of rushing wind filled the air as a powerful gust carried a sweeping storm of sand and wind across the arena, engulfing everything in a hazy blur.
Louis, who had just stepped down for a break, widened his eyes instantly.
âWhatâs happening?â
âIsnât that Louisâs Dust Sand Mist?â
Even the apprentices in the stands looked bewildered because the spell filling the arena was none other than Dust Sand Mistâa spell Louis had just used.
Lynch raised an eyebrow, growing increasingly curious.
Meanwhile, Adamâs figure vanished, safely blending into the dust and disappearing entirely.
âTap, tap, tap!â
âTap, tap, tap!â
Footsteps echoed amid the swirling winds, their origins shifting unpredictably. Lynch tried to sense Adamâs whereabouts, but every attempt yielded results from all directions, making it impossible to pinpoint him.
âClang!â
Suddenly, a sharp sword cry rang out as a gleaming Cross Sword stabbed toward Lynchâs back from his rear flank.
Just as it was about to pierce him, Lynch spun mid-reaction and deflected with a counter-slash, producing a loud âclangâ of clashing metal. The reverberating force jolted through the sword, making Lynchâs palm ache.
He quickly tightened his grip on the sword, preparing to give this sneaky attacker a proper beating. But before he could step into the storm, Adam had already disappeared from sight.
Moments later.
âClang!â
The Cross Sword lunged again from a cunning angle at Lynchâs back. This time, he couldnât even turn to defend himself and had to rely on the Elemental Shield to barely fend off the attack.
For a while, Adam, having completely concealed his presence within the sandstorm, turned into an elusive phantom. He refused any direct confrontation, attacking and retreating in true guerrilla fashionâfully embodying the strategic finesse of the War Feather.
Having repeatedly failed to catch Adam and taking hit after hit, Lynch looked increasingly frustrated.
Alright, alright, you want to play this game?
With a decisive wave of his magic wand, Lynch conjured black mist from thin air. The mist spread quickly, carried by the surrounding wind and sand, until it enveloped the entire dueling arena.
Zero-ring low-level magic: . It was also a spell famed for its concealment.
The dark mist mixed with the yellow sandstormâblack and yellowâthe two hues shrouded the entire arena, rendering everything indistinct and blurry.
Now, neither of them had any visual advantage.
Hide-and-seek?
Letâs play!
