Chapter 214: 028: One day, every single day
The next day, the day when the Guardian Clouds release their energy.
Morning.
The warm sunlight streamed through the cross-shaped windows into the room, illuminating the spotless wooden floor, the pristine white sheets and bedding, and the two naked figures lying on the bed.
As the sunlight crept onto his eyelids, Lynchâs brow furrowed slightly before he slowly opened his eyes.
He sat up, scanning the surroundings, and his gaze eventually landed on the body of the girl beside him.
âHmm⊠what happened?â
His mind gradually settled, and the memories of last night finally returned to him.
Last night, at the banquet hall, he had drunk quite a lot. After the event ended, Lynch found himself marveling at the star-studded night sky and, perhaps on a whim, asked Avery if sheâd like to visit his place to see his pet Fire Dragon perform backflipsâŠ
Parker was truly skilled at this.
After arriving home, Lynch summoned Parker to perform a few aerial loops. Perhaps because Parker found the request ridiculous or sensed Lynchâs lack of courtesy, the dragon got annoyed and spat a burst of fire at them. Their clothes caught fire, resulting in a chaotic scramble to extinguish the flames and remove their burning clothes.
A lone man and woman, stripped bare.
Lynchâs original intention had been purely to invite Avery to see Parkerâs backflips. The ensuing fire incident was genuinely a series of coincidences. But at this point, there was no way Lynch could explain the situation clearly.
So, understanding the unspoken, Avery âtook the hintâ and pinned Lynch down⊠and everything naturally progressed from there.
âDamn it!â
âPulling off a good drunken escapade, huh!â
Once he pieced everything together, Lynch was speechless. He hadnât expected his drunken antics to lead to thisâto wake Parker in the middle of the night for a backflip demonstration, prompting the dragonâs anger. After all, even a Fire Dragon has its dignity, right?
âNext time, avoid this. Staying sober is the bare minimum.â
While Lynch knew plenty of spells to sober up, carried several related Magic Potions in his Space Pocket, and could even dissipate alcohol with Fighting Spirit techniques, heâd simply chosen not to use any of them last nightâŠ
âMmmâŠâ
At that moment, a soft hum escaped the girl beside him. Apparently, Lynchâs movements had disturbed her, and Avery was now waking from her slumber.
Her gaze immediately fell on Lynch sitting beside her, and her own memories of last night soon flooded back. A deep crimson blush spread swiftly across her snow-white skin, lighting up her cheeks.
She hurriedly pulled the sheets over herself, her shy demeanor shrinking under the covers until only the top of her head peeked out.
Lynch snapped back to reality: âYouâre awake?â
Avery nodded softly: âMmâŠâ
Given that the events had already unfolded, Lynch knew there was no point in trying to dodge responsibility. After all, it wasnât a big deal. Considering his ageâ30 in this life and 60 if counting his previous oneânothing was likely to cause too significant a stir.
âWhat do you feel like eating? Iâll prepare breakfast.â
âUh⊠anything is fine.â
Lynch got up, dressed, and headed to the kitchen to make breakfast. He prepared two Dinornis Bird eggs, two sausages, two cups of hot milk, and two slices of honeyed bread. While not extravagant, it was respectable. On his own, Lynch usually only needed one egg to get by.
After breakfast, Lynch would ordinarily begin his daily cultivation routine. However, given that he wasnât alone today, he hesitated about whether to skip it for once.
Avery, aware of his dilemma, made the decision for him: âGo ahead and do your own thing, donât mind meâI can manage myself.â
Alright then.
With no further hesitation, Lynch began his cultivation for the day.
First, meditation.
[Meditation Proficiency +3]
Next, reading.
[Blue-striped Lizard Cell Overview Proficiency +36]
Then, Knight Training.
[Knight Breathing Method +5.]
And so forth, repeating the cycle.

Time flew by. Before Lynch realized it, night had fallen.
He quickly left the Cultivation Room to return home.
Having left Avery alone for most of the day, Lynch figured sheâd be upset. If it were him, heâd likely feel uncomfortable in her positionâespecially considering how sensitive women could be. Wouldnât she be furious?
Surprisingly, she hadnât left in anger.
Entering the living room, Lynch found Avery reclining on the couch, engrossed in a hefty book. She wore only a simple single-layered garment, and her long legs sprawled carelessly before Lynchâs gaze.
On the nearby table were two meals she had prepared; however, both had gone cold.
Upon noticing Lynch, she immediately sat up enthusiastically: âYouâre finally done cultivating!â
Lynch apologized, âSorry, I lost track of time.â
âWhy apologize? I made you food, but itâs cold now. Let me heat it up.â She grabbed the dishes and headed for the kitchen.
Curious, Lynch followed her. He didnât recall this young lady being skilled in the culinary arts. The past six months theyâd been together had consisted mostly of gnawing on dried meat and provisions.
As expected, her âcooked mealâ turned out to be sliced-up bread and some salted meat boiled slightly with a mix of turnips, potatoes, and onionsâa simple one-pot dish.
âAlright, letâs eat.â she said.
Back in the living room, she placed the cauldron on the coffee table, and they sat cross-legged on the floor. Avery ladled a bowl of stew for Lynch, eagerly awaiting his reaction to her efforts.
Lynch took a bite of the mushy concoction. Surprisingly, the taste was pretty good.
âWhat is this? Itâs actually quite tasty.â
Avery explained, âSomeone taught me this. Wizard Fruit and Vegetable Soupâitâs supposedly an ancient recipe invented by wizards for quick meals during wilderness travels.â
Lynch nodded, âItâs decent.â
âHaha.â Avery laughed, her voice clear and melodious like silver chimes.
Lynch asked, âWhy are you laughing?â
Avery shook her head, âNo reason, Iâm just happy.â
Lynch looked puzzled, âHappy? Whatâs there to be happy about?â
Avery pondered, âHmm⊠I donât know. Just sitting here eating like this makes me happy.â
AlrightâŠ
Lynch remarked, âI thought youâd be furious, having been left alone all day.â
Avery rolled her eyes at him: âYou think I just met you today or something?â
Fair enough.
Lynch then recalled how theyâd relied on each other for survival over the past six months. Avery was already familiar with his personality, quirks, and routines.
Avery said, âHaving chosen to step into your life, Iâve prepared myself for your way of living. One day.â
âEvery day.â
âŠ
From that day on, Avery effectively moved in with Lynch. Apart from instances when duties called her elsewhere, she spent most of her time at his placeâwaking up together, cultivating together, sharing breakfasts, and falling asleep side by side.
When they first got together, Averyâs prominent status sparked considerable gossip in Shadow Land. However, thanks to the wizardsâ generally open attitudes toward personal relationshipsâwhere multiple romantic partners were common among male and female witches alikeârelations with someone as strikingly attractive as Lynch aroused little surprise.
As long as matrimony wasnât involved, the private lives of wizards rarely drew attention. Marriage, however, was a separate topic, and such considerations hadnât yet crossed Lynchâs mind.
And so, a week passed.
One morning, just after breakfast, a knock sounded at the door.
âLynch! Lynch, are you there? Open the door!â Adamâs voice rang out.
Lynch opened the door to find Adam standing outside.
Due to their unique role, Black Robe Enforcers did not participate in the Blood Moon War, and Adam had been continuously on duty since then. It had been quite a while since the two had last met.
About to warmly welcome his friend inside, Lynch noticed several black-cloaked apprentices standing solemnly behind Adam. Judging by their expressions, trouble seemed imminent.
What was going on?
Lynch asked, âIs something wrong, Adam?â
Adam frowned, about to respond, when an older man stepped forward from the group behind Adam. Judging by the badge on his chest, he was an Official Level wizard.
The wizard sternly questioned Lynch, âLynch Valen, are you the apprentice of Wizard Somda?â
