Chapter 311: 024: Elf Bloodline
Two weeks later, at Lynch Tower.
In the laboratory, dim candlelight cast flickering shadows on the walls, and the air was suffused with the faint aroma of herbs and Magic Potions.
Lynch stood before a laboratory bench crafted from Obsidian. Its surface was cluttered with various Magic Tools: softly glowing test tubes, Rune-etched glass containers, and several heavy Magic Books.
In his hand, he held a slender Crystal test tube, within which a single droplet of emerald-hued liquid floatedâ
It was a distillation of Karinaâs Elven Bloodline.
The liquid flowed slowly inside the tube, as if alive, emitting a faint phosphorescent glow. Lynch held the test tube up to his eye, squinting as he studied it closely, muttering an ancient Spell under his breath. As the incantation resonated, the liquid within the tube began to quiver slightly. The glow intensified, and finally, a complex Magic Array pattern formed inside the test tube.
âUnraveling the secrets of the ElvesâŠâ Lynch murmured softly, a glimmer of excitement flashing across his eyes.
He set the test tube aside and walked to the other end of the bench, where a Magic Instrument fabricated from Bronze and Crystal stood. At its center was a Crystal Ball, about the size of a fist, its interior swirling with a nebula-like pattern.
Carefully, Lynch dripped the liquid from the test tube into a groove atop the Crystal Ball. The liquid trickled into the ball, instantly triggering a brilliant green radiance.
Inside the Crystal Ball, the nebula began to spin violently, gradually forming a three-dimensional Magic Projection. The projection displayed countless fine points of light intertwined in the void, outlining the magical structure of the Elven Bloodline: a structural diagram of their essence.
Lynch stared intently at the projection, manipulating it with subtle gestures of his fingers. He zoomed in, rotated the structure, and painstakingly analyzed its intricacies.
âThe natural energy within the Elven Bloodline⊠itâs unbelievably pure,â he muttered softly.
Reaching for a quill from the bench, he began rapidly noting his observations onto a piece of Parchment. The sheet was already filled with densely packed Runes and formulasâevidence of his relentless research.
âNext, the analysis of the cellular sample,â he said.
Moving to another section of the bench, he approached a specialized microscope built of Crystal and metal. Intricate Runes were inscribed on its lenses, enabling it to magnify and unravel the flow of Magic Energy.
Lynch placed a glass slide containing Karinaâs cellular sample under the microscope and adjusted the focus, beginning his observations.
Through the lens, the cellular structure came into vivid clarity. Each cell glowed faintly with green luminescence, seemingly imbued with endless vitality.
With a light tap on the microscopeâs base, Lynch activated the embedded Rune mechanisms. At once, the magic energy flows within the cells were magnified and projected into the air, forming a dynamic, three-dimensional energy diagram. Every intricate structure lay plainly visible.
âFascinating⊠Elven cells can autonomously absorb natural energy and convert it,â Lynch murmured in admiration, his eyes gleaming with appreciation.
âSo thatâs it. This is the source of their tremendous vitality?â
âAstounding, truly astoundingâŠâ he mused.
One analysis after another left Lynch marveling at the findings.
He had long heard of the Elves, those extraordinary beings classed among the nine major races. As part of the Immortal Species, their kind needed to exert little effort to naturally enjoy extraordinarily long lifespans from birth.
To put it plainly, it felt like⊠cheating.
Lifeâthis was the ultimate pursuit of all beings, Wizards included. Magic Beasts strived to awaken their Bloodlines, humans labored to enhance their physical forms, and Wizards devoted themselves tirelessly to meditation and Cultivationâall for the sake of extending life.
But the Elves?
They had to do absolutely, *nothing*. Born with lifespans stretching hundreds, even thousands of years.
In some sense, it was utterlyâŠ
Unfair!
âWhat is the logic behind this life-force conversion?â
Gazing at the cellular diagrams projected before him, Lynch delved deeper, analyzing in detail. Understanding this process might only enrich his academic knowledge, but if he coupled it with a more pressing questionâ
âCould this vitality be extracted and applied to other lifeforms?â
If so, then by leveraging the labâs cultivation units to perpetually multiply Elven blood cells, wouldnât he possess an unlimited means of enhancing vitalityâpractically akin to an elixir of immortality?
âIt would be ideal to capture a real Elf. Half-Elves still fall short,â Lynch muttered with slight regret.
âWhen the opportunity arises, I must acquire one!â
Though the Supreme Council had outlawed the capture of Elves as illegal, the underground trade in such dealings had never truly ceased. With sufficient resources, obtaining a genuine Elf wasnât entirely impossible.
Finishing his final entry, Lynch stored away his experimental results. Pushing the door open, he stepped out; such a complex experiment wouldnât yield immediate results. Some aspects required further thought and reflection, along with periodic observation of the cellsâ evolutionâa long-drawn process. Sitting idle had no meaning.
He seated himself at his desk and glanced at the detection Crystal Ball atop it.
Something he had recently implemented, it functioned much like surveillance. Enchanted with Eagle Eye Technique and other detection-based Spells, it allowed Lynch to monitor every corner of the Tower, keeping tabs on his apprenticesâ activities at any moment.
Over time, Lynch had restored the Towerâs operations to full capacity. Through the Crystal Ball, the bustling figures of his apprentices were clearly visible as they worked diligently.
Lena of Alchemy was refining the Low-level Magic Materials delivered from Feiyan City. She processed them into powders, liquids, or dried formsânecessary steps for their eventual use.
Mila of alchemy stood by the alchemy furnace, smelting chunks of Magic Metals into elements Lynch required.
Saul of Array Formation paced through the Tower, meticulously inspecting and maintaining the Magic Arrays drawn throughout its interior. His hands were stained black from Magic Stone Chalk, and beads of sweat dripped from his brow.
Flora of Plantology and Kali of Bloodline Study tended to the Plantation, cultivating Magic Plants and feeding Demonsâessential resources for Lynchâs Cultivation.
Regga of Rune Studies remained focused in the Rune Workshop, engraving intricate Runes onto Obsidian plates with his carving knife. These would serve as key components for Lynchâs future Magic Arrays.
Lastly, only the apprentice master, Alya, had a fraction of leisure as she sat listlessly outside Lynchâs chamber, awaiting his summons.
All the apprenticesâ busywork and labor ultimately culminated in a steady stream of Magic Resources funneled to Lynch, sustaining his routine research and Cultivation. Their toil enabled him to remain entirely unburdened.
Ah!
No wonder everyone aspires to the ruling classâbeing an exploiter *was* indeed wonderfully indulgent!
No planting, no tending, no lifting a fingerâeverything was taken care of by others. He could lounge comfortably while others toiled day and night on his behalf, carrying the weight of hardships while he simply reaped the rewards.
The Cultivation Resources behind those Wizard Families and Purebloods occupying the Ancient Ruins? Where did they come from?
Exactly like this!
Reining in his wandering thoughts, Lynch called out: âAlya!â
The dazed Alya immediately rose and entered the room, her expression numb and her eyes vacant, as if she were nothing more than a soulless puppet.
She spoke: âYour orders, sir.â
Lynch commanded, âGo gather everyone. I have an announcement to make.â
While basking in the joy of exploitation was satisfying, it was nevertheless a bit too⊠Low-level. It strayed from the vision Lynch originally held for founding this group. There were larger, more significant tasks waiting for these apprentices to fulfill.
âYes,â Alya replied.
She left, and before long, she returned with all the apprentices assembled.
Their expressions betrayed noticeable unease, pale faces marked by tension. Memories of prior incidents under Tristanâs reign ensured that gatherings like this were often preludes to dire eventsâtypically involving being sent to the experiment table.
Whether they could make it out alive⊠That remained a matter of luck.
Fearful shivers ran through them, and Flora, the most fragile of the group, had already begun to softly weep. The last modification left her bereft of her arms and legs, replaced with octopus-like tentacles. This time, she could only dread what further monstrosity awaited her.
âNo need to be nervous,â Lynch spoke suddenly, his tone gentle, carrying an oddly calming undertone.
âThe reason Iâve summoned you isnât to torment you. On the contrary, I intend to fulfill my role as your mentor. Your recent efforts have greatly pleased me, and Iâve decided to impart some valuable knowledge to you.â
As these words left his lips, the apprentices froze in bewilderment. Then, with a casual snap of his fingers, Lynch created a spark.
*Snap!* A soft echo rang through the room.
Out of nowhere, thick, hefty Magic Books materialized from the smoke, falling into midair before landing with a thud.
