Chapter 769: Chapter 23: It Once Happened
Upon hearing Lynchâs question, the kindly face formed by element light points on Vadorra gradually collected away its smile, eyebrows deeply furrowed, as if touching upon a heavy topic. He remained silent for a moment, his aged voice carrying a hint of barely perceptible concern, spoke slowly:
âThe specific reason, I am not entirely sure. But as youâve perceived, the elements forming the foundation of this world have recently become very⊠strange.â
âThey are no longer gentle and orderly, but filled with an indescribable agitation and unrest, as if an invisible hand has forcibly disrupted their inherent rhythm, making me feel very uncomfortable, even⊠somewhat anxious.â
He paused, the ethereal branches and leaves seemed to tremble gently with the reminiscing, his tone becoming more distant: âMoreover, this feeling⊠is not occurring for the first time.â
Lynch, upon hearing this, his expression turned tense, immediately pressed on: âNot for the first time? Do you mean that similar situations have happened before today? When was this?â
Vadorra nodded slightly, a look of reminiscence appearing on his aged face, his voice carrying the sediment of time: âAs for exactly when⊠I can no longer clearly remember, it was too long ago. I only remember that at that time, I was just a sapling that had just developed sentience, rooted in an ancient soilâŠâ
Lynch rapidly calculated in his mind. Using the immensely long lifespan of World Species, measuring in tens of thousands of years, Vadorraâs âsaplingâ period probablyâŠ
âWas it ten thousand years ago?â Lynch asked with a confirming tone.
Vadorra nodded slightly: âAbout⊠it should be around that time. Indeed, in the vague beginnings of my long memory, there indeed occurred a⊠event extremely similar to the current element agitation, the very foundational rules of the whole world seemed to tremble.â
At this point, a look of terror distinctly surfaced on Vadorraâs face formed by light points, as if that sealed memory still carried a cold chill. He involuntarily curled his ethereal branches and leaves, as if to ward off some invisible fear.
Lynch noticed his abnormality, his voice slowed, but still inquired firmly: âWhat happened afterward?â
Vadorraâs voice carried a slight tremor, as if every word weighed thousands of pounds:
âA disasterâŠâ
âA catastrophe that swept across the entire world!â
He endeavored to steady the fluctuation of his emotions, beginning to describe with a tone laden with fear that imagery seemingly branded into the depths of his soul:
âAt that time, the sky was no longer a stable azure but was wildly shifting between crimson, ghastly green, and eerie dark, like the last gleam on the face of a dying patient. The earth lost its gentle support of all things, at times violently shaking, splitting into bottomless chasms; at other times soft as a swamp, devouring mountains and forests.â
âRivers⊠countless rivers dried up to the bottom in an instant, exposing cracked riverbeds; and in the next second, they were submerged by floods containing chaotic elements that appeared out of nowhere and backfilled.â
âThe towering mountains collapsed and disintegrated amidst the clash of elements, massive rocks plummeting from the sky like raindropsâŠâ
âThe millennia-old Snow Mountain in the polar region⊠on the edge of my hazy perception, those white territories symbolizing eternity and coldness, rapidly melting in abnormal heat, triggering overwhelming floods⊠yet would be refrozen by chaotic ice laws in the next moment, forming a bizarre frozen worldâŠâ
âThe whole world⊠seemed to have reached its end!â
Vadorraâs voice still carried the residue of the years: âBecause of the rampage of the elements, the very foundations on which life depends were collapsing, the Laws lost their meaning. That feeling⊠itâs like the creator personally tore apart the blueprint that maintained the world, letting everything descend into the chaos and abyss of destructionâŠâ
Lynchâs face became instantly grave following Vadorraâs description.
The apocalypse-like scene Vadorra depictedâsky changed colors, the earth cracked open, mountains and rivers inverted, laws failed⊠eerily overlapped with snippets of words Lynch had seen in some extremely ancient, deeply taboo classics!
âThis description⊠this feeling⊠could it beâŠâ A term long buried in the dust of history emerged in his mindâ
Truth Run Amok!
He immediately linked it to that dark history which almost destroyed the foundations of Wizard Civilization, the culprit which led to the total annihilation of glorious ancient civilizations like Acadia! Calculating Vadorraâs described timeline, it coincided exactly with the time that calamity occurred as documented in historical records!
âCould it be⊠history is about to repeat? Is it another supreme being wielding truth, meddling with the power that shouldnât be easily touched, enough to rewrite the worldâs rules?â This thought sent a chill down Lynchâs spine. The power of truth is a terrifying dominion above the Rules, its implications of misuse or runaway are evident from the ruins of Acadia.
Yet immediately, a huge doubt surged up in his mind like a tide.
âNo⊠this doesnât make sense!â
According to the historical records he knew, the root of the âTruthâ disaster ten thousand years ago was believed to be Nicholas, who, in desperation or madness, waged a war affecting the entire Plane against the then colossal âEternal Towerâ, ultimately leading to the loss of control and runaway of truth power. It was a tragedy generated in an environment of extreme confrontation.
But what about now?
The current Wizard World, though far from absolute peace, with local conflicts and frictions between witch domains never ceasing, is stable as a whole!
The Four Great Witch Realms, occupying the pinnacle, balance each other, forming a framework of relative peace. And the Truth Dominion, enough to pry open the foundational stability of the world, he knows, is firmly grasped in the hands of these Four Great Witch Realmsâ supreme beings.
The Truth Wizards of the Four Great Witch Realms, they themselves are the greatest beneficiaries and maintainers of the existing order. Without an enormous external threat and internal all-out war of life and death, what reason would they have to wield âtruthâ, conducting actions akin to dismantling their own roof beam and possibly destroying the entire world with such dangerous operations?
Vadorraâs aged voice, still carrying the residue of years, slowly fell: âThough I canât precisely know whatâs happening, the tremor originating from the worldâs foundation does not deceive me⊠Young Saphiro, what can be certain is that the outside world has undeniably become drastically different from beforeâŠâ
Lynch remained silent without responding immediately.
He slowly raised his head, his gaze seemingly piercing through the lush intertwined branches of World Species Vadorra, piercing through the chaotic clouds and elemental turbulence above Strange Tree Island, casting towards that infinitely distant, yet filled with the unknown and tumultuous places.
In his eyes, there no longer was the sharpness of battle-time, nor the joy of gathering materials, but replaced by an indistinct, weighty worry. That anxiety hung over the depths of his profound gaze like a shadowy cloud.
