Edie was startled. She thought it was her illusion. She rubbed her eyes and found a man in the air outside the window. This was the sixteenth floor! Edie swallowed and tried to gather her courage.
She took two steps forward and looked out the window. Then she saw that the man was outside the window and there was a helicopter. He was hanging in the air by a piece of rope, and he stood comfortably on it. He pulled it with one hand as if he had no fear of the sky.
It was too far away from her, so she had not heard the sound, and now, standing at the window, she could only hear the rumble of the helicopter. The man was dressed in a black trench coat and wore a face mask. She couldnât see his face, but she could tell that he was skinny.
As she got closer, Edie realized that the man had a camera in his hand, and it was facing Edie. Who the hell is this man? How long has he been standing outside? Whatâs he doing there? A series of questions flashed through Edieâs mind.
As she was nervous, the man suddenly raised his head in the darkness of the night. He looked at her with his strange, reckless eyes of a cold-light blue. She could not see him very well, but she could feel his gaze upon her. He was like a Wolf upon its prey, ready to fight and devour.
Seeing her look, he didnât even panic. He put the camera away and held out his forefinger, pointing straight at Edie. "Target confirmed, catch at any time." Edie was horrified by this gesture and had a bad presentiment rise in her heart.
He swung himself from the rope and grasped the curtain with both hands. Who was he? He didnât look like a regular reporter. Why did he take a picture of her? How long was he there? Did he take a photo of Stuart?
A series of questions arose in her mind, and she could not answer any of them. She unconsciously took out her phone and started to call Stuartâs number. But the thought that they had just argued so violently and said so many hurtful things made her lose her mood, and she could not press the button.
Edie took a deep breath, put down her phone, and went to the window again. She lifted the corner of the curtain and looked out. The man had vanished into thin air. There was only darkness outside as if all had been a dream.
Edie was at a loss when a new text message rang from her phone. Stuart? Edie was shocked and walked quickly to pick up the phone, only to find it was a message from Aaron. "I just got the latest news that the Yates Family has been out in force."
Seeing the word "Yates Family." Edie trembled violently and quickly replied, "Are you sure?"
"Can you answer the phone now, sister?"
"Yes, please call and explain."
Just as Edie finished, Aaron called her, "Sister, I got a report from my person from the Yates Family. They have already arrived in the city and are investigating your relationship in every way possible. So you and Stuart have to do it well, or it will all fall apart."
Edie paused for a moment, and nervously replied, "So soon? How will they investigate?"
"I donât know the exact method of the investigation. It would be safe to say to get the true information of the heir, and the family members will do whatever they can to find out if it is a real marriage."
Edie suddenly understood the reason why the strange man was in the helicopter and why he had a camera in his hand.
"I think I have seen a member of his family."
"What?!" Aaron cried in surprise." Where? How do you know it was someone from his family?"
Edie gave a brief description of the man. Aaronâs voice grew somber, "Youâre telling me itâs probably the family, no matter the cost, no matter the method. I donât think they had the nerve to go to the Beck Mansion. So what did they find out tonight?"
"I donât think so." Edie wasnât sure. The only thing they could have taken was photos of her, Stuart, and their kiss. The thought of that fierce and dangerous kiss brought her fingers to her lips, which seemed to have Stuartâs sweet, lingering odor of blood on them.
Stuart, who usually was so alert, was he aware of the noise outside the window just now? Or maybe he heard nothing because he lost his temper?
"You still have to be careful in the future. No one knows what they will do when they arrive."
"Okay, but," said Edie, "Does everyone have to work as hard as that guy?" Imagine being monitored by a helicopter every day without knowing when.
"No, if they make such a big move, Stuart will take action too. According to your description, I suspect that the person you just met is Childe Yates. This is very much his way of doing these things."
"Childe Yates? Wasnât that Stuartâs brother?"
"Heâs not just Stuartâs brother, and heâs Stuartâs nemesis. There are two brothers in the family. Milord Shipley is the father of Stuart, and Milord Gentry is the father of Childe Yates. The duchy has a hereditary dukedom. Due to the early death of Stuartâs father, the title is inherited by Milord Gentry under British law. Stuart will inherit when Milord Gentry dies."
Edie listened carefully to Aaronâs words and frowned, "So even though Stuart has the title to the heir, he doesnât have the title now, does he?"
"Yes, it is because of this situation that there has been a huge disagreement within the L. N. Group, and many of the top bosses have begun to connect covertly with the Milord Gentry faction to put Childe Yates on the bench. This time, the family had so much trouble investigating Stuartâs sexual orientation that it could not get away from them."
Edie didnât expect Stuartâs life to be so misleading, with so many crises hidden behind it.
"Childe himself came to the city?" Edie knew that the relationship between Stuart and Childe was not a good one.
"This is a very malicious move because of the delicate relationship between Stuart and Childe, and Childe will certainly not be easy on him."
"What if they found out that Stuart is really gay?"
This was Edieâs biggest concern. She promised to help Stuart through it, but no one could have predicted what would happen. Stuartâs relationship with Aaron, combined with the gruesome sight of Childe, made her feel less confident.
