Edie held the I padded up and looked at it. "This was posted last night!" she said, sounding surprised.
The comments read, "Look at Mae now!"
There was a photo of Edie in the drama The White Love Song. Edie looked at Danny and went back and read Clydeâs post slower, frowning more and more with each sentence. "What does he think heâs doing? Has he gone crazy!"
"I think you succeeded," Danny said with a smile of satisfaction on his face."âDonât stop! Keep reading!"
Edie started to read the comments, one post after another. "Look at Edie Lara, and sheâs beautiful! Sheâs perfect! Sheâs gorgeous!"
"I didnât know she was such a talented actress! Her performance was absolutely amazing! Even my mother watched it, and she loved it! Sheâs never cried while watching a movie before, but this one made her cry."
"She looks so sweet and innocent. It was so sad to see how she was treated!"
There were only positive comments posted. "Did Clyde do this?" Edie asked as she shook her head in disbelief.
"It was definitely the public relations department that did this," Danny explained.
"I guess I should be thankful they donât hate me anymore. I canât believe what theyâre saying about me. How easily fans can be persuaded!" Edie said, sounding a little skeptical.
Danny shook his head in agreement. "Yes, I would have to agree with you! Our company shouldâve done this, but instead, it was the public relations of Clydeâs company. Somebody is looking out for you, kiddo!" he said in an exciting tone.
Edie could hardly believe what she was reading. "Clydeâs fans turn into my fans. Kind of ironic, donât you think?" She kept shaking her head and mumbled the words, "What does he want from me?"
Danny stepped closer to Edie, and his expression changed. It was unreadable. A distinctly sinister smile twisted his mouth as he said, "I heard Clyde personally told his fans to do it." His voice was low, but Edie knew what he meant by it.
"I know you told me not to call him, but I did. I asked him to take care of it, and by the looks of it, he did! I should be excited, but for some reason, I feel as though I owe him something," Edie said and sighed. "What will his fans think of me now? Will they still think there is something going on between Clyde and me?"
Danny looked at her like she was crazy. "What do you think theyâll think? Theyâre fans! They are only beginning to see the relationship between the two of you," Danny smirked.
"We have to tell them the truth! It needs to be fixed, and now!" Edie quickly answered.
"Fix what? You have gone completely crazy. What Clyde has done for you is a good thing, and you should be grateful." Danny took a deep breath and swallowed. "How do you think the ratings got so high? If all it takes is Clyde to post some tweets about you. Let him do it! Gossip spreads, whether itâs big or small. If you want to become a famous actress, then you have to rely on hype and headlines to stoke up your image," Danny explained.
"Danny, you know that Stuart and I are married. I donât want the fans to get the wrong idea about Clyde and me," Edie said in a slow, but a frantic voice.
"So what!â" Danny didnât care that Edie was married. "Your marriage is secret. You and Clyde know what is really going on, so why should it matter? Itâs only gossip. Headlines today, and tomorrow itâll be something else."
Edie wanted to tell Danny what Clyde told her, but how could she? Her only worry was what Clydeâs true intentions were. "Heâs not my fiancĂ©! Iâm married to Stuart, and I donât care what Clyde thinks," Edie muttered under her breath.
Danny noticed the expression on Edieâs face and tried to comfort her. "Donât worry about it! Stuart is a busy man, and I doubt he even watches the entertainment news. Itâs the only gossip anyways. He wonât even flinch an eyelash!"
Edieâs voice was quivering as she spoke. "You donât think so?"
"If it bothers you so much! Go talk to Clyde after all he was the one who made the post," Danny said as he tapped her on the back.
Edie never gave Danny a reply. She turned and walked to the elevator. When she stepped outside the building, there was the car, and Mr. Bates was sitting in the driverâs seat. "Mr. Bates, I was expecting to see you!" Edie said, sounding surprised.
Mr. Bates smiled slightly. "Mr. Yates asked me to pick you up. He wanted me to let you know heâs waiting to have lunch with you," he explained.
Edie shook her head, trying to clear her mind. She got in the car and looked out the window. "Thereâs a...I donât....." Mr. Bates could hardly speak. His voice sounded serious but distressed.
"Whatâs wrong?" Edie asked as she looked around.
"Itâs Madame Yates!" Mr. Bates said as a frown formed on his face. Right across the street was a silver Lamborghini. He couldnât see who was sitting in the front seat, but it was definitely Mr. Bayerâs car, and the only person who sat beside him was Madame Yates. Mr. Batesâs phone rang, and he quickly answered. "Yes. Madam," he said, trying to take deep breaths to keep himself calm.
"Tell Edie to come over to the car," Madame Yates ordered.
The second Edie heard Mr. Bates say, Madame, she froze. Mr. Bates looked at Edie in the mirror and noticed the expression on her face. He felt nothing but sympathy for her. "I can call Stuart if you donât want to go alone?"
Edie shook her head slowly. "I canât hide from her forever! She came to see me, and Stuart canât always be here to protect me. Itâs inevitable, and it was bound to happen sooner or later." Edie let out a loud sigh. "Maybe sheâll like me? I want to know what type of person my mother-in-law is! Iâm going!" Edie took a deep breath and tried to sort out her thoughts.
Stuart had done so much for Edie, and she had to find the courage to meet with his mother. There was no escaping it and no more hiding behind Stuart. Mr. Bates drove her across the street, and he slowly pulled behind the car. Edie opened the door and slowly walked over to the other vehicle. She opened the door and sat down. Edie was expecting to see an old woman, but instead, it was a woman who was beautiful and youthful-looking. She was dressed in a black suit. Edie couldnât help thinking Madame looked very distinguished.
