Edieās eyes were brimmed with tears, but when she heard Stuartās teasing, she hit his chest angrily and said, "Iām already upset, and youāre still teasing me!"
"I didnāt," Stuart held back his smiled and said seriously, "I married you because I wanted to give you the best of everything, not for you to do chores for me or cook for me. And even if I donāt cook, thereās still a cook in the house. But I want to cook for you. Thank you for giving me the chance to cook for you."
"Edie, do you know how much I loved cooking for you?"
Hearing his words, Edie startled. Stuart always had the ability to say cheesy things without being cheesy.
After a long silence, Stuart asked worriedly, "Whatās wrong? Are you still upset?"
"No... Iām not, I just didnāt know what to say," she shook her head innocently, she still had a tear droplet on her eyelashes, the look was heart-breaking.
Stuart lifted Edie up, put her on the bench, and started treating her wound. After Edieās finger was bandaged, he bent down and started cleaning up the mess.
Edie apologized guiltily, "Iām sorry that you have to clean up the mess for me after you worked till so late, actually... Iām indeed useless, right?" She wanted to cry again. Suddenly, Stuart stood up and came up to her, and his expression was livid. He winced as if he was angry.
Edie got scared and felt more upset, "Please... please donāt be angry, I know it was my fault, Iāll learn how to do all these..."
But before she finished her sentence, Stuart reached his hand to wipe away the tears on her face. Then he winced and said seriously, "If youāre good at everything, what do you need me for?"
"Hah?" Edie was confused.
"Donāt think nonsense, from now on, and you can only think about me, and nothing else! If thereās no food, I can cook. If the floor gets dirty, Iāll clean it up. Itās no big deal. From now one, you canāt cry for no reason or be self-deprecating."
"But... Iām truly useless!" Edie pursed her lips and frowned like a child.
The seriousness on Stuartās face faded away, he fondled her head and said seductively, "Who said youāre useless? In bed, youāre very useful."
"..."
This sentence made Edie swallow all her words together with her tears.
"Your only mission every day is to make me satisfied, other than that, and thereās nothing else you need to do. Iāll do the rest." Then Stuart kissed gently on her earlobe, Edieās whole body shook.
"Remember my words, because itās valid for a lifetime," he said. His affectionate black eyes gazed at her; there was tender love in it.
Edie couldnāt think of how to reply to him; actually, her face had long gone red, even breathing became hard for her. She had no strength to speak. Then she watched the man in front of her cleaning up the kitchen, boiling water and washing tomatoes.
"Spaghetti?" He asked.
"Sure," she answered unintentionally, but then immediately lowered her head in shame. She was the one who should be cooking, but now, it became Stuart.
"What did you have for dinner?" Stuart asked as he prepared the ingredients.
"I didnāt eat, I couldnāt eat without you," Edie showed her affection bluntly but still felt a little embarrassed, so she deliberately avoided Stuartās eyes.
As expected, Stuart looked up as she said the words. Stuart couldnāt resist staring at her for a little longer as Edieās face turned into a red apple. If Edie met with his eyes, she would definitely notice there was something other than affectionate in his eyes. They were complicated and indescribable emotions.
He winced then quickly smoothed, and said, "You canāt do that from now on, you have to eat on time even without me."
"Will you... leave without me?" Edieās heart missed a beat as she asked.
The two of them looked at each other, the steam from the pot between them rose up in the air, the atmosphere became strange and mysterious.
Separated by the steam, Edie couldnāt see the expression on Stuartās face clearly, but she still heard his firm answer, "No."
Edie felt relieved hearing his answer, and she didnāt know why she was so nervous, why did she feel anxious at heart? The tomatoes were minced and made into a red sauce. After a while, two deliciously looking dishes were quickly done. When Stuart and Edie were just about to leave the kitchen, a voice appeared untimely.
"Wow! It smells so good... Iām so hungry..." A little bud in pajama appeared at the kitchen door. His hand waved as if he was searching for food. His eyes were not fully opened, Edie thought he looked totally adorable.
When he finally found the source of that delicious smell, he opened his eyes, gulped, and stared at the spaghetti. He said pitifully, "Edie, Iām so hungry..."
"Stuart... he..." Edie pleaded for him.
Stuart squinted his eyes, and he only made two plates of spaghetti; there was no more for him. So he took out two tomatoes and some bread from the fridge, "Yours."
"Edie... Iām hungry..." Cecil complained even louder.
Edie couldnāt bear it anymore, they deducted Cecilās meal for the past few days in order to make him lose weight, but losing weight needs to be preceded step by step, what if they harmed his stomach?
"What about... I give him mine; Iām not hungry anyway, I can eat the tomato and bread!"
Stuart took a deep breath, and he could deny his wifeās requirement.
"Come here, and you can have mine."
Stuart gave Cecil his own spaghetti, the little bud raised his hand and accepted the plate of spaghetti as if he was receiving a knightās sword from the queen.
Then, he quickly ran to the dining room and started gobbling down the spaghetti-like animal.
Edie looked at the spaghetti in her hand and said, "Iām not hungry; you can have it."
