No one replied to the text.
Laty frowned. She still didnāt want to give up.
"What kind of attitude did you just now? What happened to Edie? Why didnāt you talk to us?"
"Liar. You bastard liar. You told me you would wash vegetables and cook for me. You said you would help me wash clothes and sweep the floor. You promised me to feed my pet and water my flowers. Remember? Why did you withdraw all of a sudden? You bastard."
She sent several texts to Stuart. But no one replied. Laty couldnāt control herself. She dialed his number directly.
Hearing that familiar message, she finally realized sheās been on his blacklist.
Hell.
Why did he do this?
Looking at the screen, she felt so strange. Her cheap dad just disappeared totally from their life.
Meanwhile, inside the car, Ivan was surrounded by a weird atmosphere.
He hesitated for a while and said, "Mr. CEO, you need to sign the acquisition contract tomorrow..."
"Sign it for me. Order a flight tomorrow morning. I want to go back to London."
Stuart closed the file in his hands. He closed his eyes slowly. Edieās image appeared in his mind.
Was this what she wanted?
Was she satisfied with this result? As long as she could live happily, he didnāt care what he had to sacrifice.
He could put up with all pain, leaving her happiness. He liked this.
"Wanna go back to the flat?"
"Yeah."
Stuart gave her a brief answer.
It was a crossroads. The left was to Edieās house while the right was to his house in the countryside. As Ivan prepared to drive towards Stuartās flat, Stuart frowned slightly and changed the decision, "Her house."
"Mr...."
But Stuart already fell into silence.
Apparently, Edie was distracted by something today. She cooked the steak several times. But all failed. Laty finally decided to stay in the kitchen with her to watch the steak.
Edie still couldnāt concentrate.
"Mom, it is done, put it in the plate, hurry up," Laty shouted out, waking Edie up from her deep thought. But it was too late.
When Edie put the steak into the plate, it has already turned black.
It was quite hard to control the time when cooking steak. It could easily turn worse.
Like love.
"Letās eat something else tonight, okay? I donāt want to eat steak anymore. Let me see what we have in our fridge."
Laty pretended that she didnāt feel anything. She jumped down from the chair to check the fridge. Except for several eggs, she couldnāt find anything else.
They planned to make steak with some fruit salad for dinner. So they didnāt buy anything else.
Now all steak was thrown into the trash bin. They couldnāt just eat fruit salad. That wouldnāt make them get full.
"Mom, the rice is ready, we could eat rice mixed with eggs." Laty forced a smile and provided a suggestion.
Edie took off her apron and said, "I want to buy some vegetables at the supermarket. Wait for me. I will come back soon."
"Mom, you donāt have to do this. We can eat rice. Besides, we still have a fruit salad."
But, Edie already stepped out of the kitchen.
She changed the shoes and walked out.
It was in autumn. It was quite cold at night. Even though she wore a thick coat, she was still trembling.
She didnāt take good care of herself after she gave birth to Laty, the result of which she chilled. Her feet and hands would get cold in winter. She might even suffer from stomach ache sometimes.
The supermarket was quite close to her house. She didnāt drive.
But she didnāt know a man following closely behind her.
After paying, Edie walked back to her house immediately. When stepping into her house, she finally felt the warmth.
She already tried the best to cook. But Stuartās indifference on his face kept popping into her mind.
It was tough for her to focus on cooking. She forgot to add the ingredients. She even mistook the sugar as salt.
Though she bought a lot, they all turned worse at the end.
Finally, they had no choice but to eat the rice mixed with egg.
But the rice also tasted awful.
"Awful... right? We can go out for dinner." seeing Latyās facial expression, Edie sounded guilty.
But Laty quite understood her feeling at the moment. She decided to comfort Edie, "No. Quite yummy. Mom, eat some, and take some rest. You need to take a nap."
"Okay," Edie said in a slight voice.
After the dinner, Laty led her to her bedroom and helped her adjust the bed temperature. Then she turned on the air-conditioner to warm the bedroom. After finishing all this, she turned around and left the room.
"Turn on the humidifier before falling into sleep. Donāt close the window tightly. Otherwise, the air wouldnāt be calculated. It is bad for your health, copy that?"
"Okay. It is cold at night, donāt tread the quilt. I would check later."
"Donāt worry. I wonāt, unlike you. You always thread quilt at night. Keep yourself warm. I put the winter pajama in the closet. If you still feel cold, you can wear it on."
"All right, baby. Such a babysitter." Edie said.
Sometimes she wondered which one was the grown-up. Laty was really good at looking after others. She sounded so reasonable that Edie couldnāt find any words to refute her.
She pinched her face and laughed out.
Seeing the smile on Edieās face, Laty finally breathed a sigh of relief. She held Edie in her arms tightly.
"Edie, though I donāt know what happened to you, I would always stand on your side. I like whoever you like. If you hate them, I would also hate them. All in all, I would stay with you all the time. You are not alone, in the past, now, and in the future."
Hearing these words, Edie was deeply touched. She burst into tears.
But suddenly she recalled what Ivan said.
"Miss Lara, you have Laty surrounding you. But Mr. CEO had no one."
Edie closed her eyes, letting her tears fall down.
After thinking for a while, she finally made the decision.
"Laty, I might need to leave for business for a few days. I need to take photographs abroad. I would ask an aunt to look after you, okay? She is my best friend."
"Donāt worry, mom. I would be a good girl."
Laty knew Edie wanted to stay alone for a few days. So she didnāt say any words to stop her.
"Good night. Sleep tightly." Edie kissed her forehead and closed the door.
Then she sent a text to Scarlet and asked her to come to her house.
Scarlet was her best friend. She trusted her more than anyone else.
Perhaps, she ought to return Laty back to Stuart, as the amendment for him.
She wrote a long letter. But it was really far from the monitor lens. Stuart couldnāt see clearly what she wrote on the paper.
Then, Edie took a shower and went to bed. The light was turned off.
The screen turned dark immediately.
It was the last for Stuart to spy on Edie.
It was time for him to end all these. He would have all those monitors uninstalled. He would not leave any trace.
